Abstract

Papaya is a plant that is commonly found in Indonesia, especially on the island of Java. The waste produced in the form of peel, seeds and leaves can be used as an alternative animal feed. The aims of the study was to utilize and evaluate papaya waste as dairy cattle feed. The research was carried out in two places, at the Laboratory of Ruminant Nutrition and Feed Chemistry, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Padjadjaran University and at the Service Laboratory of Pakuan University from September to October 2021. The research method used was Completely Randomized Design with seven treatments (P1: 100% Papaya peel, P2: 100% Papaya Seeds, P3: 100% Papaya leaves, P4: 50% Papaya peel and 50% seeds, P5: 50% Papaya peel and 50% leaves, P6: 50% Papaya seeds and 50% leaves, P7: 33,33% Papaya peel, 33,33% seeds, and 33,33% leaves), each treatment was repeated four times. The research were tested in vitro. The used medium was McDougall fluid and rumen of dairy cattle. The data obtained were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS 20 software and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The variables observed were feed fermentability values (VFA, NH3, and pH). The results showed that the utilization of papaya waste significantly (P<0.05) affected to the production of VFA, and NH3, pH with an average of 98.17-194.42 mM, 3.48-7.10 mM, and 6.87-7.04. In conclusion, the utilization of papaya waste mixed with peel and leaves showed the best results.

Abstract

Turkey is one of the poultry commodities with the potential to be a source of animal protein for the community. Optimal turkey productivity must be supported by the provision of rations that in quality and quantity can meet the needs of the livestock, including by providing additional feed that is relatively cheap but has high nutritional value. This research aimed to determine the effect of providing additional feed with cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration on turkey productivity and to obtain the percentage of additional feeding with cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration that produces the best productivity. The method used experimental and Completely Randomized Design, 3 treatments, namely P1: giving 90% basal ration + 5% cassava leaves + 5% tofu dregs, P2: giving 80% basal ration + 10% cassava leaves + 10% tofu dregs, and P3: giving 70% basal ration + 15% cassava leaves + 15% tofu dregs, replicated 8 times, each replication consisting of 4 turkeys. The variables observed were ration consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion. Data were analysed using ANOVA (0,05) and Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Based on the research results, providing cassava leaves and tofu dregs in the ration had a significant effect on turkey productivity. Providing additional feed with cassava leaves and tofu dregs as much as 5% in the ration produces the best ration consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion, approximately 5,087.06 g/birds, 2,883.59 g/birds, and 1.80.

Abstract

Pakchong grass is a high-yielding forage that has good quality and can be used as silage. The research aims to determine the physical quality, fungi, and pH of pakchong grass silage with the addition of herbal SOC. The variables observed were color, aroma, texture, taste, fungi, and pH. This research was carried out in Pulosari Village, Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency, West Java. This research used experimental methods and a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consist of 4 treatments and 5 replications, namely: P1 = Pakchong grass + 1% herbal SOC, P2 = Pakchong grass + 3% herbal SOC, P3 = Pakchong grass + 5% herbal SOC, and P4 = Pakchong grass + 7% herbal SOC. The results showed that it had a significant effect on color, aroma, texture, taste, and fungi but had no significant effect on the pH of the silage. The higher the level of herbal SOC given, the more the quality decreases. The addition of 1% herbal SOC produced pakchong grass silage with the best physical, fungi, and pH qualities.

Abstract

Ambon banana is a type of tree that has a soft stem. One of the by-products of banana trees is the stem. Banana pseudo-stems can be used as animal feed because they contain quite good nutrients and do not contain anti-nutrients. The purpose of the research was to determine the physical quality and pH of Ambon banana pseudo-stem silage given various types of starter. this research used an experimental method and completely randomized design, which used four treatments and five replications. The treatments were P1: 100% banana pseudo-stem + 10% cassava flour, P2: 100% banana pseudo-stem + 10% rice bran, P3: 100% banana pseudo-stem + 10% pollard, P4: 100% banana pseudo-stem + 10% molasses. The observation data wasthen tested by analysis of variance and Duncan further test. The variables observed consisted of physical quality carried out by 15 untrained panelists, and also pH. according to the research results, it can be concluded that different types of starters affected physical quality and pH. P3 treatment with the addition of 10% pollard gave the best results.
