Abstract

This year's community service was given in a village assisted by Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) located in Jatibarang Indramayu called Bulak Village. This village is a village that contributes quite a lot in sending Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) abroad. This makes many teenagers who have parents who work as PMI. Analyses conducted by UNJ's Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) found that the education level in the village is quite low. Most residents in Bulak Village are primary school graduates and up to the latest data only about 5-10% of residents are college graduates. Many teenagers prefer to work directly as Indonesian Migrant Workers who have not been accompanied by education or the desire to develop skills as preparation. Therefore, this community service is given so that adolescents understand their potential so that they know the fields that are their strengths. This self-understanding will be accompanied by knowledge about achievement motivation so that they can encourage themselves to have the desire to have further education or develop their abilities as preparation for the future. Modules will be compiled by experts in the field of psychology which will be adjusted to the needs and age of participants. It is hoped that with this activity teenagers can recognise themselves and encourage themselves to get a higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of traditional parenting styles based on the local cultural value of “Mon Niku Kawai Handak Nyak Kawai Handak Munih” on the psychological well-being of adolescents. This value emphasizes balance in social relationships and serves as a fundamental principle in traditional parenting practices in Ogan Komering Ulu Timur. The sample consisted of 118 adolescents aged 12–21 years, selected using purposive sampling techniques. The instruments used included the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression JASP software. The results showed a significant influence of traditional parenting styles on psychological well-being. Proportional implementation of traditional parenting styles can improve dimensions of positive relationships with others and self-acceptance. This study provides important insights into parenting practices within the context of local culture, serving as a reference for developing interventions to enhance adolescents’ psychological well-being and contributing to the cross-cultural psychology literature.

Abstract

Divorce is a significant social issue with significant impacts on individuals' psychological well-being, financial stability, and social dynamics. Key factors contributing to divorce include economic stress, ongoing marital conflict, and the negative impact of spouses' mental and physical health issues. According to the latest data, West Java was recorded as the province with the highest number of divorces in 2024. This community service activity examines the role of gender role perceptions in contributing to domestic conflict. Gender roles, as social constructs that determine expected behaviors and responsibilities of men and women, often contribute to inequalities in access to resources and decision-making power. Comparison of pretest and posttest scores indicates that gender equality education plays a significant role in creating healthier family dynamics and reducing the risk of divorce, particularly in suburban communities. These results highlight the importance of integrating gender equality training into community empowerment programs to address the root causes of domestic conflict.

Abstract

Conflict resolution is an essential life skill, particularly for mothers living in suburban communities, where social pressures, family responsibilities, and community dynamics can lead to interpersonal challenges. In response, a service team conducted a conflict resolution training program for mothers in these communities. The training was evaluated by assessing its impact on their conflict resolution strategies. A pretest-posttest comparison design was used to measure changes in conflict resolution behavior before and after the training. The evaluation results showed a positive increase from the pretest (M = 8.23, SD = 1.33) to the posttest (M = 8.28, SD = 1.05). Although the improvement was relatively small, it still indicates a potential shift in participants’ perspectives regarding conflict resolution. Since conflict resolution skills require habituation and ongoing support, long-term interventions are more effective than brief sessions that merely raise initial awareness.

Abstract

Mid-year college students often face a challenging academic transition marked by increased workload, career pressure, and declining intrinsic motivation, which may lead to reduced engagement and a higher risk of dropout. Grit defined as perseverance and consistency toward long-term goals, emerges as a crucial psychological protective factor. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Indonesian version of the Grit Scale (Grit-O) to ensure its cultural relevance and psychometric soundness for use among mid-year college students. Grit measures two dimensions Perseverance of Effort and Consistency of Interest (Duckworth et al., 2007). The adaptation process followed the International Test Commission (ITC) guidelines, including obtaining permission, back-to-back translations, evaluating language comparability and interpretability, and pilot testing on a student sample. 222 active students in greater area were recruited using convience sampling. Construct validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and internal reliability was examined with Cronbach’s alpha. The CFA results CFI = 0.920, TLI = 0.910, RMSEA = 0.060, with all subscales showing adequate reliability (α = 0.780). These findings indicate that the Indonesian version of the Grit-O scale is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing perceived social support among Indonesian mid year college students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of self-concept on the quality of friendships among female adolescents in an all-girls full-day school environment. The research employs a quantitative non-experimental design with a cross-sectional approach, utilizing simple linear regression analysis. The participants consist of female junior high school students attending a full-day school exclusively for girls in Bogor. The instruments used in this study include the Tennessee Self Concept Scale 2nd Edition (TSCS 2nd Edition) to measure self-concept and the Friendship Quality Scale (FQUA) to assess the quality of friendships. The regression results indicate a positive and significant correlation between self-concept and friendship quality (r = 0.424; p < 0.001), with self-concept contributing 18% of the variance in friendship quality. These findings suggest a significant influence of self-concept on the quality of friendships among female adolescents in the all-girls school setting.
