This study aims to summarize and disseminate research findings on the virtues of Self- Regulated Learning (SRL) strategy in writing. This article presents a scoping review of 10 (ten) articles from 2018 to 2022 focused on Self- Regulated Learning (SRL) strategy in writing. A scoping review is one of the literature review methods that aims to give in-depth resources that depend on review purposes. Dealing with the steps of a scoping review, Arksey and O'Malley (2005) highlight five important stages in conducting a scoping review; identifying the research question, identifying relevant studies; study selection; charting the data; and collating, summarizing, and reporting. A noteworthy finding of this scoping review deals with the advantages of Self- Regulated Learning (SRL) in writing which cover SRL enhances academic accomplishment, fosters writing abilities, plays an important role in the writing process, and assists students in writing better.

Abstract

In response to the lack of enthusiasm among students for writing poetry, the Central Java Language Center organized a Young Generation Literacy Workshop: Student Poetry Writing event. The primary goal of this workshop was to train aspiring students in the art of creating poetic literary works and to enhance their proficiency in writing according to the EYD (Ejaan Yang Disempurnakan) guidelines. In this study, we employed a qualitative descriptive approach to elucidate a phenomenon that arose following students' participation in the Young Generation Literacy Workshop: Poetry Writing for Students during their internships at the Central Java Language Center. The activity's outcomes consist of participants' poetry in pdf format. Furthermore, these exercises provide students with the opportunity to acquire fresh knowledge, allowing them to analyze poetry, grasp its linguistic components, improve their skills in creative writing, and develop a more profound comprehension of language and literature principles.

Abstract

Learning English vocabulary is a challenging subject for many students. Students were differ from adults in many ways, especially on the attention span of children is limited. They are entertaining and friendly and need further English language instruction. Additionally, they get more proficiency with their hands, ears, and eyes. To fully engage in learning in class, they require methods and surroundings that they can touch, hear, and see. Most kindergartens still think and struggle to comprehend the subject matter. They can typically understand language by responding to and obeying specific commands through regularly repeated phrases or sentences as if they had naturally learned their original language from their surroundings. The TPR approach, which has been shown to be effective in teaching vocabulary to young students, was investigated by the researcher. The researcher is interested in seeing young learners being taught vocabulary via TPR for this reason. This study is a qualitative descriptive investigation. Both the teacher and the students are the subject of this study. In order to collect data for this study, two different methods were used: observation and interview. The validity of the data which following the collection of data from the observed teaching-learning activity, the data were analyzed qualitatively to compare the results of observations with implementation according to theory, to evaluate students motivation based on the motivational characteristics obtained from the observations, and interpret them. The outcomes showed that the students were more motivated to learn vocabulary using the TPR approach. This can be achieved through the teacher's encouragement of students to learn vocabulary and the way the teacher teaches. In this case, students participate fully in class activities, thereby achieving the goal of implementing the total physical response approach.

Abstract

Old romantic songs of the 1980s linger; especially for people, at the moment, in their 60s or so. Such songs are rich in moral teaching, applicable in any religion on earth. The current study which examined Benjamin S’ and Ida Royani’s the same song lyrics Tragedi Cinta but of different versions aimed to construe the meanings of both songs viewed from their textual-metaphoric representations. The two song lyrics were analyzed employing a software application UAMCT 6.8, adopting Hallidayan SFL on thematic progression, leading to their modes of the discourse. Also dealt with herein is the use of both grammatical and lexical metaphors to examine how meanings are realized. The findings show that ‘female’ is marginalized in three ways, namely (1) the use of active voice without any attempt to hide the identity for doing sincere things as opposed to ‘male’ put in passive voice to hide the identity for doing bad things, (2) the use of marked themes indicate high literary values employed in both song lyrics, (3) the use of both lexical and grammatical metaphoric styles implies excellently-written song lyrics, and (4) moral teaching of both song lyrics is also highlighted to give evidence of ‘female’ marginalization and it is, thereby recommended to avoid romantic juvenile delinquency, especially of the millennial generation termed as ‘digital natives’ who can get access to abundant information without limit of time and space; no matter how hard the social, religious and familial authorities try to ban the negative impacts of the world’s largest information technology industry.

Abstract

Empirical studies revealed the EFL students’ writing problems, such as incomplete paragraph development and conjugation accuracy. These problems affected the overall text coherence.  These problems have inspired teacher researchers to investigate alternative instructional techniques to improve the flow of ideas and conjugation accuracy of EFL students' paragraphs. This current research aims to investigate mood and paragraph structure analysis effectiveness to develop the conjugation accuracy and flow of ideas fluency in EFL students' paragraphs. This study followed an experimental design utilizing control and experimental groups. The research subjects comprised 30 2nd-year undergraduate EFL learners who were at an intermediate level of English proficiency. Data for this research were collected using multiple methods, including tests, documentation, and interviews. The research results revealed that mood analysis and paragraph-structure analysis were effective techniques for improving the conjugation accuracy and idea flow fluency of EFL students' writing. Thus, it is recommended that mood and paragraph structure analyses be alternative techniques to teach paragraph writing.

Abstract

Vocabulary is the most important part of learning a second language. Teaching vocabulary, especially for young learners, should be fun, engaging, and easy to understand. One alternative method that can be applied in class is total physical response. The purpose of the research is to analyze Teaching English Vocabulary Using the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method at elementary school. To find out the results and describe the students' difficulties, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive analysis method. To obtain qualitative information, material was taken from observations in the form of field notes, documentation, and interviews, as well as student and teacher interviews. The method of analyzing the data would be in descriptive analysis. The steps in the data analysis process are data reduction, data display, conclusion, and verification. Apart from the TPR test results, after attending the class, the average student is 80–70. It can be concluded that fourth grade students at elementary school can understand the material better and are motivated to learn using Total Physical Response (TPR), which effectively improves students' skills and control.

Abstract

This study analyzes the translation of culture-bound words in the novel Cantik Itu Luka by Eka Kurniawan and its English version, Beauty is A Wound, translated by Annie Tucker.  The study aims to identify the techniques used in culture-bound words and the resulting quality. The culture-bound words category was analyzed using Newmark, (1988). Meanwhile, the theory of translation techniques proposed by Molina & Albir, (2002) used to identify translation techniques applied by translators in translating culture-bound words. Text studies, reading, taking notes, and in-depth analysis using table instruments are all part of this qualitative research approach. Further, the author used accuracy, acceptability, and readability rating instruments based on Larson, (1998) to determine the translation quality of culture-bound words. The finding showed 434 culture-bound words found in this novel, and 14 translation techniques were identified, with the established equivalent being most frequent at 36.81%. Moreover, the average accuracy was 88.99%, clarity was 82.24%, and naturalness was 79.80%. This research attempts to improve knowledge of the translation process and its function in cross-cultural communication by comprehending the translation techniques and quality that underlie the translation of culture-bound words.
