Abstract

Pelumas bekas merupakan salah satu limbah yang termasuk dalam limbah B3, pelumas bekas mengandung logam berat yang dapat mencemari lingkungan dan berbahaya bagi makhluk hidup. Pelumas bekas mengandung logam yaitu Pb, Zn, Ca, Ba, Na dan Mg yang dapat merusak mesin kendaraan. Penerapan metode fotolisis dengan menggunakan katalis TiO2/Zeolit dapat mendegradasi logam Mg dan Na pada pelumas bekas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan katalis TiO2/Zeolit terhadap degradasi pelumas bekas dengan metode fotolisis. Analisis kandungan logam Mg dan Na pada pelumas bekas diukur dengan menggunakan alat Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (AAS). Analisis pelumas bekas sebelum dan sesudah adsorpsi dengan Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). Karakterisasi TiO2/Zeolit sebelum dan sesudah degradasi menggunakan X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). Dari penelitian ini diperoleh kondisi optimum untuk degradasi logam Mg dan Na pada pelumas bekas, yaitu waktu degradasi optimum untuk logam Mg dan Na adalah 15 menit, jumlah katalis optimum untuk degradasi logam Mg dan Na adalah 0,4 gram, dan volume pelumas bekas yang optimum untuk degradasi logam Mg dan Na adalah 10 mL dengan besar persen degradasi 83,37% Mg dan 74,98% Na. Karakterisasi TiO2/Zeolit dengan menggunakan XRD menunjukkan tidak adanya perubahan struktur TiO2/Zeolit. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat dikatakan bahwa katalis TiO2 yang didukung oleh zeolit dapat digunakan untuk mendegradasi logam Mg dan Na pada pelumas bekas. Karakterisasi pelumas bekas menggunakan FTIR menunjukkan adanya pergeseran bilangan gelombang sebelum dan sesudah degradasi yang mengindikasikan adanya proses degradasi.

Abstract

The textile industry is a major contributor to pollution, with 10-15% of dyes lost in wastewater during processing, including Methyl Violet. The degradation products of these dyes are often carcinogenic. Conventional biological treatment methods are ineffective due to the complex nature of synthetic dyes. A study aimed to develop a new photocatalytic activity using a UV A lamp and sonolysis using a sonicator. The study modified TiO2/Activated Carbon from Rice Husk as a catalyst to degrade Methyl Violet and textile industry effluent effectively, which was dual benefits as an adsorbent-photocatalyst. Results showed that the degradation by sonolysis and photolysis was 12.99% and 79.16%, respectively. The degradation by photolysis was 14.95% and 94.12%. The light and catalyst with the highest percentage of degradation were TiO2/activated carbon with UV A light of 94.12%. This study aims to develop effective treatment techniques for the textile industry's dyes.

Abstract

Organic waste from food scraps is a major contributor to environmental pollution. The Madrasah Aliyah at the Mu’allimin Islamic Boarding School generates approximately 15–20 kg of organic waste per day, which is directly disposed of in a temporary storage area without any treatment. This has the potential to cause odors, environmental pollution, and health hazards. Therefore, food waste management is necessary to address these issues. One method of waste management is solar biodigester technology combined with bioactivators, which is a simple, inexpensive, and easy-to-implement technology. This community service activity aims to apply solar biodigester technology combined with bioactivators to reduce organic waste. Success indicators include a reduction in the volume of organic waste, the production of solid and liquid compost, accelerated degradation time, and increased understanding among participants. The method used is Participatory Approach through stages of outreach, training in the construction and operation of solar biodigesters, and practical sessions on bioactivator production. Evaluation was conducted by measuring waste volume before and after treatment, observing the degradation process, and assessing participants’ level of understanding. The results showed that the application of solar biodigester and bioactivator technology was able to reduce kitchen waste volume by 50.8% with a faster degradation time compared to conventional methods, and participants’ knowledge increased by 52.68%. The integration of solar biodigesters and bioactivators is effective in reducing organic waste, accelerating degradation, conserving land, and being environmentally friendly.
