Abstract

Kersen fruit and Lakum leaf contain substances that are potential as an antihyperlipidemic. This study aimed to analyze The Effects of Kersen Juice (Mutingia calabura L.) with dosage 0.2 ml/200 g BW and Lakum Leaf Extract (Cayratia trifolia L.) with dosage 40 mg/200 g BW on Lipid Profile of White Rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) Hyperlipidemia. This study used a complete randomized design (CRD). Twenty adult male Wistar rats were divided into five groups, P0 as a control group, P1 as a HFD control group, P2 as a HFD group treated with Kersen juice with dosage 0.2 ml/200 g BW, P3 as a HFD group treated with Lakum leaf extract with dosage 40 mg/200 g BW and P4 as a HFD group treated by simvastatin. The treatments were given orally for 28 days. The parameters of this study were cholesterol level, HDL, LDL, triglyceride, body weight, and food consumption. One way ANOVA test was performed to determine the significant differences p<0.05 between groups followed by Duncan test with a 95% significant level. The results showed that compared to Kersen juice with dosage 0.2 ml/200 g BW, administration of Lakum leaf extract with dosage 40 mg/200 g BW was more effective in lowering cholesterol level, triglyceride and increasing HDL level, however, they were not effective in lowering LDL in rats with hyperlipidemia

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of using duckweed (Lemna minor) and virgin coconut oil (VCO) in diet on performance, hatchability, feed consumption, and body weight of cemani hen (Gallus gallus domesticus). Sixteen cemani hens were maintained from the age of 12 weeks to the first laying period and housed randomly in cages based on a completely randomized design (CRD) using four treatments and four replications. The treatment consisted: standard feed (T0), standard feed added 75% duckweed (T1), standard feed added 10 ml/kg VCO (T2), and standard feed added 75% duckweed and 10 ml/kg VCO (T3). The parameters were evaluated: age of maturity, egg number, fertility, hatchability, feed consumption, protein retention, and body weight. The results showed that feeding of duckweed and VCO had significant (P<0.05) effects on age of maturity, egg number, feed consumption, protein retention, and body weight, but there were no significant (P>0.05) effects on fertility, and hatchability of cemani’s hen. The feeding of  duckweed 75% and VCO 10 ml/kg can be used as an alternative to improve performance and nutritional intake of cemani’s hen.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the histological features of the aorta and heart of male Rattus norvegicus after  administration of cherry juice (Muntingia calabura L.) dan lakum leaf extract  (Cayratia trifolia L.). The study used 30 male Rattus norvegicus L.  in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments with 6 repetitions, namely the control group (P0), the standard feeding group (P1), the hyperlipid feed group + 0.2 mL/200 g BB cherry juice (P2), the hyperlipid feed group + 40 mg / 200 g BB lakum leaf extract (P3) and hyperlipid feed group + 0.18 mg / 200 g BB simvastatin (P4). Hyperlipid feed was given during the treatment, which was 28 days. To obtain histological data, preparations were made using the paraffin method and then observed using a photomicrograph with 400x magnification and observing the aortic lumen, foam cells and intracellular accumulation of lipids in smooth muscle. Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by Duncan Test at a significant level of 5%. The results showed that the addition of cherry juice and lakum leaf extract gave a significant effect on lumen width and thickness of the aortic wall (p <0.05), while on changes in heart muscle cell size no significant effect (p> 0.05). Histomorphometri showed the presence of foam cells and accumulation of smooth muscle lipids in the control and group treatments with hyperlipid feeding. The conclusion of this study was that the addition of cherry juice  and lakum leaf extract can reduce atherosclerotic lesions by eliminating showed foam cells and prevent proliferating smooth muscle cells so the size of the aortic lumen width returns to normal, but didn’t cause enlargement of the heart muscle (cardiomegaly).

Abstract

Resistensi insulin merupakan awal dari prediabetes, menyebabkan absorbsi glukosa oleh sel menurun. Tubuh melakukan glukoneogenesis untuk mempertahankan kadar glukosa agar tetap normal. Glukoneogenesis yang terus menerus menyebabkan hiperglikemia yang beresiko aterosklerosis. Serbuk kunyit dapat menghambat aterosklerosis melalui mekanisme antioksidan. Telur puyuh tinggi HDL dan β-karoten dapat melakukan jalur balik transportasi kolesterol dan antiinflamasi. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis pengaruh serbuk kunyit dan telur puyuh terhadap histomorfometri arteri koronaria hewan model resistensi insulin. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan 5 perlakuan dan 8 ulangan. Langkah kerja penelitian yaitu aklimasi hewan model, penyiapan tikus resistensi insulin, pemeliharaan puyuh dan produksi telur, pemberian perlakuan terhadap hewan model, pembuatan preparat histologi dengan metode parafin, dan analisis data menggunakan uji ANOVA yang dilanjutkan uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa D1 berbeda signifikan terhadap D0, D2, D3, dan D4. Serbuk kunyit dan telur puyuh mampu mengurangi plak pada arteri koronaria. Serbuk kunyit memiliki efek antioksidan, telur puyuh memiliki kandungan HDL yang tinggi dan β-karoten. Kesimpulan penelitian yaitu pemberian serbuk kunyit dan telur puyuh efektif dalam memperbaiki status resistensi insulin.  Insulin resistance is the beginning of prediabetes, which causes decreased ability of cells to absorb glucose. The body performs gluconeogenesis to maintain normal glucose levels. Continuous gluconeogenesis causes hyperglycemia which is at risk of atherosclerosis. Turmeric powder can inhibit atherosclerosis through antioxidant mechanisms. Quail eggs contain high HDL and β-carotene can reverse cholesterol transport and anti-inflammatory pathways. This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of turmeric powder and quail eggs on the histomorphometry of the coronary arteries in insulin resistance models. The study used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 8 replications. The steps of the research were acclimation of animal models, preparation of insulin resistance rats, quail rearing and egg production, treatment of animal models, preparation of histology preparations using paraffin method, and data analysis using ANOVA test followed by Duncan's test. The results showed that D1 was significantly different from D0, D2, D3, and D4. Turmeric powder and quail eggs can reduce plaque in the coronary arteries. Turmeric powder has an antioxidant effect, quail eggs have a high content of HDL and  β-carotene. The conclusion of the study is treatment with turmeric powder and quail eggs is effective in improving insulin resistance status.

Abstract

Lactobacillus paracasei diketahui dapat beradaptasi pada berbagai habitat yang berbeda, terutama saluran pencernaan. Bakteri asam laktat sering digunakan sebagai starter kultur dalam pembuatan probiotik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian Lactobacillus paracasei sebagai probiotik terhadap pertumbuhan, reproduksi, tingkat kelulushidupan, konversi pakan, kualitas air, serta jumlah total bakteri asam laktat pada usus ikan platy dan air akuarium. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tingkatan konsentrasi probiotik yang berbeda, terdiri dari empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuannya yaitu P0 (tanpa probiotik), P1 (5 mL.kg-1 pakan), P2 (10 mL.kg-1 pakan), dan P3 (15 mL.kg-1 pakan). Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan, angka pertumbuhan bobot dan reproduksi yang paling tinggi berada pada perlakuan P3 dengan p<0,05, sementara tingkat kelulushidupan tertinggi pada P1. Nilai konversi pakan dan pertumbuhan panjang tidak menunjukkan perbedaan nyata. Populasi bakteri asam laktat di usus berbeda secara nyata, sedangkan bakteri di air akuarium berbeda nyata hanya pada perlakuan kontrol. Kualitas air setelah penelitian masih dalam kisaran yang sesuai bagi ikan platy. Pemberian Lactobacillus paracasei pada ikan platy koral (Xiphophorus maculatus) dengan dosis sebesar 5 mL.kg-1 pakan merupakan dosis terbaik untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan reproduksi ikan platy koral tanpa menyebabkan kematian ikan dalam jumlah yang besar.
