The aims of this research was to analyze the composition, abundance, diversity index, uniformity index, and dominance index of epipelic diatom species in the intertidal zone. The method used is a survey method and the determination of the sampling location by purposive sampling based on anthropogenic activities around the waters. The water quality measured in this study were brightness, temperature, current velocity, salinity, pH, nitrate, and phosphate. Based on the research results, there are 19 species epipelic diatoms found in Mengkapan Waters, namely Coscinodiscus sp., Navicula sp., Gyrosigma sp., Thalassiosira sp., Pleurosigma sp., Synedra sp., Pinnularia sp., Surirella sp., Nitzchia sp., Triceratium sp., Melosira sp., Skeletonema sp., Stephanodiscus sp., Oscillatoria sp., Cocconeis sp., Epithemia sp., Diadesmis sp., Cymbella sp., and Amphipleura sp. The average value of abundance ranged from 29,245.37 – 35,744.33 ind/cm2, the diversity index value ranged from 2.5909 to 2.8014, the uniformity index value ranged from 0.6736 – 0.7755, and the dominance index ranged from 0.1684 - 0.2064. Based on one-way Anova test, concluded that abundance of epipelic diatoms between each stations weren’t significant.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March 2020 at BPBALP Teluk Buo, West Sumatera. This research aimed to determine the best dose for urea usage on S. costatum cell growth. The method used in this research was an experimental method using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor, which was the various doses of urea fertilizer consisting of five treatments with three replications. Urea various doses used were 0 ppm (control treatment), 40 ppm (treatment A), 60 ppm (treatment B), 80 ppm (treatment C), and 100 ppm (treatment D) totaling 15 treatment units. The tested organism in this research was S. costatum. The container used was a plastic jar with 2 liters capacity. The parameters tested in this research were the maximum cell population density achieved by seven days of maintenance, absolute growth rate, relative growth rate, and specific growth rate. The results showed that the best cell density was found at the treatment D (100 ppm), which was 1,228 x 104 cells / mL and the lowest cell density was in the control treatment (without urea) which was 533 x 104 cells / ml. The results of water quality measurements during the study were still in an adequate range and met the maintenance requirements of S. costatum. The range of water quality parameters were salinity 26-28 ppt, temperature of 25-27oC, and pH of 8.

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one of the factors that affect the abundance of fhytoplankton, especially the diatom. The waters of Lalang Strait, Mengkapan Village, are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. This study aims to analyze the total oil content, calculate the abundance of planktonic diatoms, and explain the relationship between the total oil content and the abundance of planktonic diatoms carried out in the Lalang Strait waters, Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. This research uses survey method. Station 1 is near Tanjung Buton Port, station 2 is in the mangrove ecotourism area, and station 3 is in the fishing port and near the settlement. The result of oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0,00016 ppm. The highest oil content at station 3 is 0,00035 ppm and the lowest at station 2 is 0,00011 ppm. The results of the calculation of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 5.014 to 22.062 cells/L. The highest abundance at station 1 was 17.716 cells/L. The lowest abundance was at station 2 which was 9.694 cells/L. Simple linear regression test result, obtained equation Y= 14,2644+(-3802,27x). The coefficient of determination (R2)= 0,002 states 0,2 % of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content and the rest is influenced by other environmental factors. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0,053, so the relationship of total oil content with the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak.

Abstract

Anadara granosa is one of the bivalves that are often found in public markets. This study aimed to study the relationship between length-weight and sex ratio of blood clams (A. granosa) in the coastal waters of West Rangsang. Sampling was carried out every month at three stations. Shells were collected from a 1 x 1 m2 plot on a quadratic transect. The relationship between length and weight was analyzed by regression analysis. The sex ratio between the number of female and male blood clams in each month of sampling was calculated and followed by the Chi square test to test the similarity. The results showed that the relationship between length and weight of A. granosa was positive allometric. The sex ratio of female and male blood clams in the waters of West Rangsang is not balanced. The number of male blood clams is more than the female.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the community structure of epipelic diatoms vertically between stations. This research was carried out in March 2022 which is located in the waters of the City of West Dumai. The method used is the survey method. Determination of the sampling point is done by purposive sampling method and the determination of the station is based on anthropogenic input. A sampling of epipelic diatoms was carried out using a modified corer, then brought to the laboratory to identify and calculate the community structure, and the sediment samples were calculated for the content of nitrate, phosphate, organic matter, and sediment fractions. Sampling is accompanied by measurements of water quality consisting of brightness, temperature, current velocity, salinity and pH. 21 genera of epipelic diatoms were found in the waters of West Dumai City with an abundance value of 9,784 – 32,739 ind/cm2. The average value of the diversity index obtained was 2.6460 – 3.2065, the dominance index was 0.1478 – 0.2423, and the uniformity index was 0.7952 – 0.8424. The results of the one-way ANOVA test obtained an average value of 0.001, meaning that there was a significant difference in the abundance of epipelic diatoms between stations.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the type, abundance, and community structure of epizoic diatoms attached to the shells of the snails Cerithidea obtusa and Nerita articulata in the mangrove ecosystem of Dumai City, Riau Province. This research was conducted in January 2022. A sampling of snail shells took place in the mangrove ecosystem of the city of Dumai, Riau Province, and was identified at the Marine Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Riau. Based on the research that has been done, the results show that there are 13 genera of epizoic diatoms consisting of 5 genera centrales and 8 genera of pennales order. The highest abundance of epizoic diatoms in C.obtusa snail shells was at station II with a value of 29,687 ind/cm2. While the highest abundance of epizoic diatoms in N.articulata shells was at station I. Based on the average values of diversity index (H'), dominance index (D), and uniformity index (E) it can be concluded that epizoic diatoms in C.obtusa and N.articulata have a moderate biota community balance value, moderate polluted water quality, no dominant species and unbalanced organism uniformity and food competition occurs.
