Abstract

Domestic wastewater of Lebari Sub-village and Krajan Sub-village was disposed so unproperly that it overflowed onto surroundings. When the met garbage and livestock manure, it would attract flies and mice; and also contaminate the surrounding water. Pawenang (2010) riset showed that the spring water which flowed into Jaro River and Sronto River did not meet the bacteriological qualification because it had 1.100/100ml and 2.400/100ml total coliform number, whereas the limit was 10/100ml. Public Health Centre data showed that diarea always on the top three. Both non-physical and physical efforts were needed. The physical effort was done by building a comunal wastewater treatment. The non-physical efford was done with education about wastewater management and wastewater treatment maintenace. The public education increased knowladge rate of 83.3% mothers participants and 90% fathers participants. It had been already built 2 units of domestic wastewater treatment which covered 60 houses. It had been formed a wastewater superintendent forum which was well observed be properly able to manage and to maintain the wastewater treatment units.

Abstract

Kudus District Health Office in 2020 reported that diarrhea was still the main cause of post-neonatal and toddler mortality even though Kudus District had become an Open Defecation Free (ODF) District in 2019. The highest case finding was in the working area of the Gondosari Health Center at 22.9% in 2020 and an increase of 20.8% compared to the previous year. Aim: to find out the determinants of the incidence diarrhea in toddler after ODF declaration in the work area of the Gondosari Health Center, Kudus Regency. Method: this type of research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design and was obtained in December 2021. The number of samples was 71 samples with the purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire sheet and an observation sheet. Data analysis used Chi-Square and Fisher tests. Result: the results showed the quality of latrine facilities (RP=1.9 and p=0.112), PAMRT (RP=1.0 and p=1,000), PLCRT (RP=3.1 and p=0.001), drinking water sources (RP= 1.1 and p=0.986, water microbiological quality (RP=4.0 and p=0.026). Conclusion: there is a relationship between PLCRT and water microbiological quality with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five after the ODF declaration in the Gondosari Health Center working area. It is hoped that the government will seek a better water source development program for the community and regular monitoring of ODF areas.

Abstract

Brebes Regency is an endemic area of Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) and has the highest number of LF cases in Central Java Province, Indonesia. Despite it is located in the coastal region, which is already known as one of the risk factors of LF, the LF case is distributed more in rural areas, away from the shoreline. Adult mosquitoes need a particular site, called a resting place, to rest after and before biting for a blood meal. The purpose of this study was to analyze spatially the distribution of LF cases and mosquito resting places in three subdistricts whose highest LF case is in the Brebes Regency. The three subdistricts are rural areas. The observed resting places were cattle pens, unmaintained bushes, and maintained bushes. The data of LF patients were obtained from the Health Office of Brebes Regency, which stood at 14 patients. Spatial mapping of LF case and mosquito resting place distribution was composed. 4 patients were located in the mosquito flight radius from unmaintained bushes, 3 patients were located in the mosquito flight radius from cattle pen, and 7 patients were located in the mosquito flight radius from both unmaintained bushes and cattle pen. It indicated unmaintained bushes, together with cattle pen, are the favorable resting place contributing to LF transmission.

Abstract

Introduction: Ketanggungan District is one of the endemic filariasis areas in Brebes Regency since 2016 with a Microfilaria Rate >1%. Filariasis is an infectious disease that attacks the lymph nodes caused by filarial worms and is transmitted by mosquitoes. Environmental factors can affect the transmission of filariasis, which will provide a resting place and breeding place for mosquitoes. Therefore, this research aimed to describe the existence of filariasis vectors and environmental factors that can be seen spatially. Methods: The research was a descriptive observational/ exploratory study using the Geographical Information System (GIS) approach. Data collection was carried out by entomological surveys, subject points sampling, and research objects using GPS. Data were analyzed spatially by Geographic Information Systems (GIS).Results: Culex quinquefasciatus was the type of mosquito which had the highest distribution in the Karangmalang District. The mosquitos were found at sewers, puddles, shrubs, and cattle pens. The vectors can be found within a distance of 29 m to 2 km from filariasis cases. Conclusion: Culex quinquefasciatus may be the vector of filariasis in the Ketanggungan District, with the most environmental factors found in Dukuhturi Village.
