Abstract

The solvent type plays a crucial role in influencing the extraction of active compounds from natural materials. The peel of kapul fruit (Baccaurea macrocarpa) is known to contain flavonoid compounds with notable antibacterial properties. This study aimed to quantify the total flavonoid content in kapul fruit peel extract by evaluating the effects of different solvent types using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The analysis revealed the presence of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids. The total flavonoid content of the kapul fruit peel extract varied significantly across different solvents: 4.7238 ± 0.5807 mgQE/g for ethanol, 2.9699 ± 0.1539 mgQE/g for ethyl acetate, and 2.0417 ± 0.4236 mgQE/g for n-hexane. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference in flavonoid content among the three solvent extracts. These results highlight the importance of solvent selection in maximizing the extraction efficiency of flavonoids from kapul fruit peel, which may have implications for its potential therapeutic applications.

Abstract

Processing of medicinal plants into the appropriate dosage form can ensure security during use. It is a motivation in making acceptable dosage form which is easy and convenient to use, especially the manufacture of ethanol extract red ginger tablets using a combination of starch 1500 and amprotab.The study begins with the manufacture of dry extract of red ginger. Optimization of making tablets using a combination of starch 1500 and disintegrator with simplex lattice design using three formulas is done by direct compaction method. Further testing on the tablet hardness, friability and disintegration time.The results showed starch 1500 has a greater influence increase hardness and disintegration time of tablets, as well as lowering the fragility of the tablet. While the interaction of starch 1500 and disintegrator has no effect on the physical tablet. The optimum proportion of the combination of starch 1500 and disintegrator meet the physical requirements of tablets with a ratio of 4: 6 with 7.99 kg hardness, the friability of 0.32% and disintegration time of 2.42 minutes

Abstract

Bawang tiwai (Eleutherine americana Merr) is one kind of medicinal plant. To obtain an active substances with good physical and chemical properties, it is needs to do optimization of making extracts, one with solvent optimization. Type of solvent will determine the types of extracted substances in accordance with the polarity. On this research, extraction of bawang tiwai bulbs simplicia by maceration method using ethanol and water as solvent. This research is an experimental research with varying ethanol and water in a three comparison solvent that is water, ethanol, and mixture of water-etanol, then the yields is calculated. Furthermore, the data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA program to determine significant differences in the three yields. In each extract was conducted phytochemical screening to determine the content of secondary metabolites. The results showed significant differences in the yield of bawang tiwai extract with three treatments and two repetitions. The results of average yields using water as solvent is 8.75%, ethanol 5.3%; and water-etanol 8.31%

Abstract

Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria and food debris left in the mouth. Development of preparations using herbal ingredients, to overcome the problem of bad breath one of them is with utilization basil leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) which have anti bacterial activity. The method of wet granulation is a single method for use in granulation of large doses of active substances because if using direct induced method will require again the addition of a large number of fillers to make it easier forging, but cause the tablet to be not feasible as it will resulting in an increase in tablet size. The type of research conducted is an experimental study. Object the study was basil leaf extract formulated. This formulation was prepared by wet granulation method with variation Explotab® ss crusher ie 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%. Performed wet granulation on each formulation. Granul evaluated the flow time, mass density test, silent angle and fixed assay test. Based on research result the physical quality of ethanol extract granule of basil leaves (Ocimum americanum L.) with explotab® concentration variation it can be concluded that all the formula fulfill the good quality of granule characteristic, because it meets the requirements of parameters of time flow, rest angle, compressibility and density mass

Abstract

Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria and leftovers in the mouth. Utilization of natural ingredients that can be used to overcome the problem of bad breath one of them by using basil leaves (Ocimum americanum L.), which has activity as an antibacterial. The development of the preparations was done on basil leaves to overcome bad breath is by formulating the basil leaves ethanol extract into the Orally Disintegrating Tablet (ODT) preparation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of explotab® concentration variations on the physical properties of ODT and to determine the best of concentrations of Explotab® that fulfill the physical properties of ODT. The type of research conducted was an experimental study. Research object was basil leaves ethanol extract formulated into ODT with Explotab® 2% w/b, 4% w/w, 6% w/b and 8% w/w variation. Physical evaluations test then conducted including : the uniformity of weight evaluation, the hardness test, the friability test, and the dissolved time. The results showed that the explotab® concentration variations had an effect on the physical properties of tablets and the formula with the Explotab® 8% b/b concentration was the best formula that could produce the best ODT tablet with physical properties. Abstract

Apium graveolens Linn and Polyscias scutellaria (Burm.f.) leaves are empirically widely used to stimulate hair growth. The purpose of this research is to combine celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract formulated in hair tonic. The hair tonic preparations made were evaluated by performing a physical test of the preparation and knowing the best concentration of celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract on rabbit hair growth. The hair tonic were prepared in 3 formulations with the ratio of Celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract (5:5 ; 7,5:2,5 and 2.5:7,5)% w / v. The positive control used is hair tonic Minoxidil 2%. Physical tests of the preparation include organoleptic test, pH and viscosity test. Hair growth activity test is done by applying hair tonic on the 3 rabbits shaved hair and hair growth measurements until the 21st day. The data of hair growth measurements were tested statistically by ANOVA test method. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that hair tonic combination of celery leaf extract and mangkokan leaf extract with ratio (7.5: 2,5)%, has average hair length 2,459 cm and hair weight 0,199 g is the optimum concentration in stimulating hair growth activity with positive control has average hair length 2,493 cm and hair weight 0,285 g. Test statistically there was no significant difference between extract and positive control. Keywords : Apium graveolens Linn, Polyscias scutellaria (Burm.f.) Fosberg, hair tonic.

Abstract

Abstrak Akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour) merupakan tumbuhan khas yang dapat dijumpai di Kalimantan serta biasa dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat setempat sebagai obat gatal, penyakit kuning dan diare. Salah satu senyawa kimia yang terkandung dalam akar kuning adalah berberin yang berpotensi memiliki khasiat sebagai antidiabetes, antivirus, antibakteri dan antiinflamasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk  mengetahui potensi tumbuhan Akar Kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) sebagai antibakteri terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus dengan menggunakan metode disc diffusion. Ekstrak etanol difraksinasi dengan menggunakan pelarut n-heksan dan etilasetat, ekstrak dan fraksi yang telah didapat ditimbang dengan konsentrasi 2,5%, 5% dan 10%. Kontrol positif yang digunakan yaitu amoxicillin dan DMSO sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ektrak etanol dan fraksi akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) memiliki potensi untuk menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Aktivitas zona hambat terbesar yang terbentuk pada ekstrak etanol yaitu pada konsentrasi 10% dengan diameter zona hambat 9,18 mm terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan 12,16 mm terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus sedangkan fraksi batang akar kuning yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri paling kuat terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan Staphylococcus aureus yaitu fraksi sisa. Staphylococcus aureus memiliki sensitifitas lebih tinggi terhadap akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour) dari pada bakteri Escherichia coli. Kata kunci  : antibakteri, akar kuning, berberin, Fibraurea tinctoria Lour. Abstract Akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) is typically plant that can be found in Kalimantan usually used by local people as itch medicine, jaundice and diarrhea. Berberin, one of the chemical compounds contained in the akar kuning, berberin has the potential to act as an anti-diabetic, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to determine the activity of akar kuning as an antibacterial against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using the disc diffusion method. Ethanol extract are fractionated using n-Heksan and Etilasetat solvents, the obtained of extract and fraction are weighed to 2,5%, 5% and 10%. Positive control antibacterial used amoxicillin and DMSO as negative control. The results showed that ethanol extracts and fraction of akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) are have potential to inhibited bacteria growth. The highest antibacterial activity that showed at 10% concentration of ethanol extract with diameter inhibition is 9,18 mm to Escherichia coli and 12,16 mm to Staphylococcus aureus while the fraction of akar kuning which has the stronger antibacterial activity to Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus is the rest fraction. Staphylococcus aureus were more susceptible to akar kuning (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) extract and fraction than Escherichia coli.Keywords:           antibacterial, akar kuning, berberin, Fibraurea tinctoria Lour

Abstract

There are many plants that have the potential to be developed into anti-diabetic herbal medicine. One of them is yellow root (Fibraurea tinctoria Lour.) that contains chemical compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids/triterpenoids. Its known that the administration of ethanolic extract of yellow root at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg BW can reduce blood glucose levels of rats with induced with alloxan. To increase the use of yellow root in food medicine, preparations were developed by formulating the extract in tablet dosage form. In this study, tablets were made with three formulas with different fillers, namely Avicel PH 101 and pregelatinized starch. The research was conducted experimentally using three formulas with varying concentrations of fillers with a ratio between Avicel PH 101 and and pregelatinized starch, namely formula I (1:0), formula II (0.5:0,5) and formula III (0:1). Furthermore, evaluation of granules which includes evaluation of flow time, angle of repose, compressibility, mass density and moisture content. The granules were compressed and evaluated for tablets including evaluation of weight uniformity, hardness, friability and tablet disintegration time. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the variation of the filler did not affect the physical properties of the yellow root extract granules, but did affect the physical properties of the tablets. The results showed that the tablet that met all the requirements for the physical properties of the yellow root extract tablet was formula II with a combination of Avicel PH 101 and Pregelatinized Starch as fillers.

Abstract

Bawang dayak (Eleutherine bulbosa (Mill.) Urb.) merupakan salah satu tumbuhan berkhasiat yang mempunyai aktifitas sebagai antioksidan. Salah satu sediaan yang dapat dikembangkan adalah permen jelly. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui formulasi terbaik ekstrak etanol bawang dayak dalam bentuk sediaan permen jelly dengan variasi gelatin dan agar sebagai pembentuk gel. Formula permen jelly ekstrak bawang dayak menggunakan variasi konsentrasi gelatin dan agar sebagai pembentuk gel yaitu formula I dengan konsentrasi gelatin dan agar 5% : 0,5%; formula II 5% : 1,5%; formula III 12% : 0,5% dan formula IV 12% : 1,5%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji sifat fisik dari permen jelly meliputi uji kadar air, uji pH, dan uji kualitatif antioksidan dengan KLT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi gelatin dan agar yang memenuhi persyaratan sifat fisik sediaan permen jelly ekstrak etanol bawang dayak yaitu gelatin 12 % dan agar 1,5% yang meliputi, kadar air (20,67%), pH (4), warna, aroma, rasa, tekstur, homogenitas dan uji kualitatif antioksidan positif terdapat senyawa antioksidan dalam sediaan permen jelly yang ditandai adanya noda kuning dengan latar ungu pada plat KLT.

Abstract

There are many types of mosquitoes that cause disease in humans, one of which is the Anopheles mosquito that spreads malaria. Bandotan plants are used to treat colic, flu, fever, antidiarrheal, diarrhoea. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides.L) leaf extract that provides the best physical properties and anti-mosquito activity in spray gel preparations. The research method conducted was experimental. The object studied was the formulation of bandotan leaf preparation as an antinyamite. The research stages include plant determination, sample collection, simplisia preparation, extraction using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent, identification of secondary metabolite compounds, preparation of spray gel formula, and preparation evaluation. Bandotan leaf extract was formulated into anti-mosquito spray gel preparations with concentration variants of 10%, 15%, 20%, and using positive control of X brand anti-mosquito spray as a comparison. The preparation testing included organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, and mosquito repellency test. The results of data collection were analysed statistically. A good preparation formula is found in the negative control formula because it has a stable consistency and pH. The results showed that the ethanol extract of bandotan leaves was not significantly different from the organoleptic test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, and pH test. The greatest mosquito repellency was at a concentration of 20% which was 66.33%, at concentrations of 10% and 15% had an average anti-mosquito activity of 22.83% and 57.83% respectively for the positive control with brand X of 99.30%.
