Abstract

Quranic learning in elementary schools plays a crucial role in shaping students' character, morals, and religious identity from an early age. In addition to instilling Islamic values, this learning also improves Arabic reading and comprehension skills. However, in practice, students still experience difficulties in reading the Quran correctly, particularly in reading short surahs at SDN 1 Blangkejeren, particularly in the aspects of makharijul huruf and tajwid. This study aims to analyze the types of student difficulties, the causal factors, and the teachers' efforts to overcome them. The study used a qualitative approach with eight fifth-grade students selected purposively, and data collection through interviews, observations, and tests. The results showed five main forms of difficulties: distinguishing hijaiyah letters, understanding connected letters, distinguishing between long and short readings, pronouncing makharijul huruf, and applying tajwid rules. These difficulties are influenced by students' lack of focus, incorrect reading habits, minimal exposure to Quranic recitation outside of school, and limited Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. Teachers' efforts include the use of hijaiyah letter cards, drill methods, and providing reading examples and direct correction.

Abstract

The relationship between Islam and Western modernity has frequently been framed within a binary opposition between acceptance and rejection, limiting a nuanced understanding of its complexity. This study reconceptualizes Islamic responses as a dynamic and processual configuration encompassing resistance, adaptation, and post-secular synthesis. Employing a qualitative interpretive approach, this research utilizes reflexive thematic analysis of contemporary academic literature (2020-2025) to identify latent patterns in the discourse on Islam and modernity. The findings indicate that resistance operates as an epistemological critique of Western modernity, while adaptation reflects selective and strategic engagement with modern institutional and technological structures. More significantly, the study identifies an emergent post-secular synthesis in which Islamic values and modern rationality are integrated, generating hybrid epistemic and socio-cultural formations. Unlike prior studies that examine Islamic responses in fragmented domains, this research integrates ideological, institutional, and epistemological dimensions within a unified analytical framework. In doing so, it bridges modernization theory, multiple modernities, and post-secularism into a coherent conceptual model. The study contributes by shifting the analytical paradigm from binary categorization to a dialectical and process-oriented perspective. These findings provide a theoretical foundation for future empirical research to examine how such configurations manifest across diverse socio-cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a theoretically grounded framework for integrating James A. Banks’ five dimensions of multicultural education into the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in Indonesia. Using a qualitative-descriptive library research design, this study analyzes PAI curriculum documents including KMA No. 347/2022 and Banks’ foundational works through an integrative hermeneutic technique. The central contribution is the stratified epistemological compatibility framework, which resolves the tension between Banks’ secular-liberal epistemology and Islamic epistemic tradition by distinguishing between qaṭʻī (definitive, revelation-based) and ẓannī (interpretation-derived) knowledge. Banks’ dimensions are applicable at the ẓannī layer, enabling critical-inclusive pedagogy without compromising aqidah. This integration is anchored in Wasatiyyah and Ukhuwah Basyariyyah as indigenous theological foundations. Practically, this study recommends revising KMA No. 347/2022 operational guidelines, institutionalizing multicultural teacher training, and integrating digital literacy into PAI to counter exclusivist narratives. These findings contribute toward developing an adaptive PAI curriculum that fosters religious moderation within Indonesia’s pluralistic society.

Abstract

This study addresses a critical gap in Islamic education by rethinking fiqh learning beyond its traditional normative-transmissive orientation toward a more meaningful and contextually grounded process. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted in a Grade 11 classroom at MA Raudlotut Tholibin Banjarnegara between January and February 2026. Data were generated through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. The findings demonstrate a fundamental shift in fiqh learning from knowledge transmission to a process of experiential and socially mediated meaning construction. This transformation unfolds through a dynamic interplay of student engagement, pedagogical adaptation, and experiential learning practices, in which students actively negotiate meaning through interaction, reflection, and lived experience. Engagement extends beyond observable participation to include cognitive and reflective involvement, while adaptation emerges as an inherent dimension of the learning process rather than a transitional stage. Consequently, fiqh is no longer understood as a fixed body of normative knowledge but as a contextual and lived practice shaped by students’ everyday realities. The study offers a theoretical contribution by reconceptualizing fiqh learning as a process of socially mediated experiential meaning-making, thereby challenging dominant transmissive paradigms in Islamic education. Practically, it underscores the need for designing interactive and context-sensitive learning environments aligned with the characteristics of digital generation learners. Ultimately, this study positions fiqh learning as a transformative pedagogical space where knowledge is continuously constructed, negotiated, and lived.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the model of worship value internalization and the formation of students’ religious experiences through the practice of Hasbanah prayer. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design involving three purposively selected informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that students’ religious experiences are formed gradually through habituation, collective worship practices, and emotional involvement in ritual activities. The internalization process begins with compliance with institutional rules, develops into emotional adaptation and spiritual awareness, and eventually becomes a personal spiritual need. The study also found that the religious experiences of students reflect several characteristics proposed by William James, including ineffability, noetic quality, transience, and partial passivity. In addition, Al-Ghazali’s perspective helps explain that worship education is not limited to ritual performance but also involves the spiritual dimensions of the heart and inner awareness. However, the aspect of tafahhum, or deep understanding of worship recitations, remains relatively weak. This indicates that students’ spiritual experiences are more strongly shaped by habituation and ritual atmosphere than by reflective understanding of worship meanings. This study concludes that collective worship practices play an important role in strengthening spiritual awareness and shaping students’ religious experiences through a gradual process of value internalization.
