Abstract

This study analyzed the potential of educational tourism as a Biology learning resource in the buffer zone of the Nantu–Boliyohuto Wildlife Reserve, Gorontalo. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed. Data were collected through field observations, semi-structured interviews with 12 informants, documentation, and field notes at four observation stations representing different habitat types. Data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while source triangulation ensured validity. The findings revealed high biotic potential, including diverse flora and fauna, and abiotic potential, such as air temperature, soil pH, light intensity, vegetation structure, and habitat variation. These characteristics are relevant to senior high school Biology topics, including biodiversity, ecosystems, classification, adaptation, conservation, and human–environment interactions. The area can support field-based learning through species identification, ecosystem observation, environmental measurements, and conservation projects. Strong community support and relatively natural environmental conditions enhance its educational tourism potential. However, limited road access, inadequate interpretation boards, lack of observation trails, and insufficient learning facilities remain challenges. Overall, the buffer zone has strong potential to be developed as a conservation-based educational tourism destination that supports Biology learning through active community involvement.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the condition of coral reefs in the waters of Popaya Island, Mas Popaya Raja Nature Reserve, North Gorontalo Regency, using the Coral Point Count with Excel Extensions (CPCe) method. Data collection was conducted using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method through skin diving along a 50-meter transect at a depth of 3–6 meters. Coral reef conditions were documented using a 60 × 40 cm frame placed alternately on the left and right sides of the transect line at one-meter intervals, resulting in 50 photographs. Data analysis was performed using 30 random points applied to each photograph to classify live and dead substrate categories. Environmental parameters, including water temperature, pH, current velocity, and water clarity, were also measured. The results showed that the environmental conditions of the waters supported coral growth, with a temperature of 28.7°C, pH of 7.8, current velocity of 0.51 m/s, and water clarity of 90%. The percentage of live coral cover was 74.37%, which was categorized as good. The composition of live coral cover was dominated by Acropora Branching (78.21%), followed by Coral Massive (12.34%), Acropora Tabulate (7.10%), and Coral Foliose (2.33%). The diversity index (H' = 1.41) and dominance index (D = 0.48) indicated a moderate category. The mortality index value of 0.10 indicated a low level of coral mortality. It can be concluded that the coral reef ecosystem in the waters of Popaya Island is in good and stable condition.

Abstract

An independent curriculum that emphasizes the learning process to meet the learning needs and characteristics of students. Driving teachers are the spearhead in implementing the independent curriculum, their role is very important. The aim of this research is to explain the role of driving teachers in implementing the independent curriculum at SMAN 1 Tibawa in Gorontalo Province because their role is important and difficult. This research is qualitative research using descriptive analysis techniques with library research. This research aims to determine the role of the 9 driving teachers at SMAN 1 Tibawa in the implementation of the Merdeka curriculum. The data collection technique used a questionnaire on the role of teachers in implementing the Merdeka curriculum and analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The results of this research are that the role of the driving teacher in implementing the Merdeka curriculum at SMA Negeri 1 Tibawa, Gorontalo Province consists of 6, namely First, a driving teacher functions as a driving force in the learning community for his fellow teachers at school and in his environment. In this situation, teachers act as coaches for other teachers to improve their own abilities; secondly, they act as a driving force to improve student leadership in a better way; third, they are responsible for creating a forum or platform for discussion and collaboration with other teachers and working together to improve the quality of learning; fourth, they are responsible for creating a pleasant, calm and comfortable learning atmosphere for all students; Fifth, driving teachers must always develop themselves which of course has an impact on improving the quality of learning; sixth, driving teachers as motivators for students and other teachers.
