Abstract

Adolescent girls will lose blood which can cause a decrease in hemoglobin levels during menstruation. The function of iron is needed by the body to produce blood. Consumption of foods containing vitamin C plays a role in accelerating the absorption of iron so that it can increase hemoglobin levels during menstruation. Red guava (Psidium guajava l.) has a high vitamin C content of 87 mg/100 grams. This study aims to determine the effect of giving red guava juice on hemoglobin levels during menstruation in adolescent girls at Lirboyo Al-Mahrusiyyah Islamic Boarding School's female dormitory, Kediri, East Java. This research is a true experiment with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design with a sampling technique using simple random sampling. The samples were divided into 4 groups, namely 1 control group (no treatment), and 3 treatment groups with 200 mL/person/day of red guava juice, 250 mL/person/day), and 300 mL/person/day of guava juice. given for 5 days of menstruation. Hemoglobin levels were measured using the Ouik-Check Hemoglobin testing system. The results of the study stated that there was an effect of red guava juice on hemoglobin levels during menstruation (p=0.000). The results of the Tukey HSD test proved that there were differences in hemoglobin levels between groups, namely for the control group with P1 (p=0.004), the control group with P2 (p=0.000), the control group with P3 (p=0.000), P1 and P2 (p = 0.000), and P1 with P3 (p = 0.000). So it can be concluded that giving red guava juice can affect hemoglobin levels during menstruation in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Stunting results from nutritional deficiencies during pregnancy and early childhood, affecting physical growth and brain development. Maternal, child, and environmental factors contribute to stunting, which can impair physical, cognitive, and motor development, impacting a child's quality of life. This study analyzes the relationship between risk factors and stunting in children aged 24–59 months in Puskesmas Semen, Kediri Regency, in 2023. Using a correlational approach, 189 randomly selected children were analyzed with the Chi-Square test. Low maternal education increased stunting risk (RR 0.3, p < 0.05), while higher education levels were not significant. Non-exclusive breastfeeding (RR 2.9), low birth weight (RR 2.6), short birth length (RR 2.2), and maternal height <150 cm (RR 1.6) were key risk factors. Preventing stunting requires improving maternal education, promoting exclusive breastfeeding, and monitoring birth weight, birth length, and maternal height during pregnancy

Abstract

Background: Hypoestrogenism is a condition characterized by a deficiency of the hormone estrogen. This condition is commonly experienced by women who are menopausal or those using hormonal contraceptives like Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate. Exposure to this synthetic progesterone can suppress the production of estrogen, leading to a decrease in the expression of estrogen receptors. One alternative to overcome the problem of hypoestrogenism is the use of natural ingredients known as phytoestrogens, which are chemically and functionally similar to estrogen. Bengkuang is known as one of the sources of phytoestrogens. Purpose: This study aims to assess the impact of bengkuang ethanol extract on estrogen levels and the expression of estrogen receptor beta in a hypoestrogenic rat model exposed to DMPA. Methods: This experimental study involved 25 rats, which were divided into five groups. One group served as the negative control and did not receive DMPA or Bengkuang extract, while the four treatment groups were administered DMPA at a dose of 2,7 mg every three days, repeated four times. Three of the treatment groups received Bengkuang extract at varying doses. The data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The findings indicated significant differences (p < 0,05) in estrogen levels and the expression of estrogen receptor beta. Conclusion: Administration of bengkuang extract can enhance the female reproductive system with low estrogen levels.

Abstract

Mother's milk can educate and improve the quality of the nation's young generation. Every baby who is breastfed will have natural immunity against disease because breast milk contains many antibodies, active immune substances that will fight the entry of infections into the baby's body. Inadequate breast milk production causes the baby's needs to not be met and exclusive breastfeeding fails. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of health education through giving marmet massage on the knowledge of breastfeeding mothers to increase breast milk production.  The research design uses a pre-experimental approach with a one group pre test post test design.
