Abstract

The objective of this research is to assess the adsorption capacity of activated carbon derived from meranti wood (Shore spp) for mercury (Hg) removal from liquid waste. To establish the relationship between concentration and absorbance, the method employed involves calibrating mercury concentration using calibration curves. Additionally, the effects of pH and exposure time on adsorption capacity were examined. The results indicate that activated carbon from meranti wood can significantly adsorb mercury, achieving an efficiency level of 97.610% at pH 3, with adsorption stability reached within 80 minutes at an adsorption rate of 94.30%. The conclusions drawn from this study suggest that activated carbon from meranti wood is a sustainable and effective solution for addressing mercury contamination in wastewater. It also highlights the importance of regulating pH and exposure time. This research contributes significantly to the development of environmentally friendly methods for water purification.

Abstract

Turmeric contains the active compound curcumin, which has been studied for its various biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties. Kaffir lime is a plant commonly found on the island of Borneo and is used in traditional medicine and culinary flavors. Kaffir lime fruit and leaves contain various bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids (hesperidin, naringenin), essential oils (citronellal, limonene), and vitamin C. Flavonoids are known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can boost the immune system. Pills are one of the oldest dosage forms in the pharmaceutical world and are still relevant, especially for herbal preparations due to their ease of manufacture and stability. This study aims to formulate pill preparations by combining turmeric and lime juice. The method used is wet granulation to make pills with varying turmeric concentrations, namely F1 0.26% and F2 0.52% using polyvinyl alcohol as a binder. Physical evaluations include water content, weight uniformity, pH, and disintegration time tests. The pills were then tested for antioxidant activity against DPPH. The results showed that the water content of F1 pills was 4.06% and F2 pills 3.75%, pill weight uniformity with RSD value criteria of F1 was 0.21% and F2 pills 3.40%, the average pH of F1 was 6.32 and F2 pills 6.22, and the disintegration time of F1 was 30 minutes and F2 pills 8.26 minutes. The results of the antioxidant activity of the pill preparations showed that the F1 IC50 was 6.36 ppm and the F2 IC50 was 5.53 ppm. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that F2 pill preparations have good physical properties and potential antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Habaring Hurung, Kecamatan Bukit Batu, Kota Palangka Raya, dengan fokus pada peningkatan pengetahuan serta keterampilan masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia) sebagai teh celup herbal untuk membantu menurunkan kadar gula darah. Pelaksanaan program menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif yang mencakup sosialisasi, diskusi interaktif, demonstrasi, praktik langsung, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Sebanyak 50 orang berpartisipasi, terdiri atas ibu rumah tangga, kader PKK, tokoh masyarakat, remaja, hingga warga lanjut usia yang berisiko diabetes. Hasil kegiatan memperlihatkan peningkatan yang sangat signifikan: pemahaman masyarakat meningkat dari 11,2% pada pre-test menjadi 97,2% pada post-test. Selain itu, keterampilan peserta dalam mengolah bawang dayak menjadi teh celup higienis juga semakin baik, sehingga mereka mampu menerapkan teknik pengolahan dengan benar. Dampak program ini tidak hanya meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya pemanfaatan tanaman obat lokal, tetapi juga membuka peluang usaha mikro berbasis herbal yang bernilai ekonomi. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini dapat dijadikan contoh model pemberdayaan masyarakat yang berkelanjutan, yang mendukung ketahanan kesehatan sekaligus perekonomian rumah tangga berbasis kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Low public literacy regarding the correct application of the DAGUSIBU (Obtain, Use, Store, and Dispose) principles of drugs contributes to the persistently high prevalence of irrational drug use in Indonesia. This situation has the potential to lead to drug abuse, antibiotic resistance, and negative impacts on public health. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and rational drug use behavior of 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya regarding safe and responsible drug management. The methods used include interactive outreach through educational media, practical simulations, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. The target group was 35 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya. The results showed an increase in student understanding with an average pre-test score of 6.9 to 7.6 on the post-test (maximum score of 8) regarding the DAGUSIBU principles, which were delivered directly through practice and active discussion. The conclusion of this activity is that the interactive DAGUSIBU outreach is effective in improving understanding of drug literacy and fostering more responsible drug management behaviors in students, which have a positive impact on reducing the risk of drug abuse and supporting individual and environmental health.

Abstract

Abstrak: Limbah pertanian selama ini dibakar atau dibuang sembarangan menyebabkan pencemaran dan kerusakan lingkungan. Melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan, masyarakat diberikan pemahaman serta praktik langsung dalam mengolah limbah organik menjadi produk bernilai ekonomis. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan keterampilan masyarakat dalam pengelolaan limbah pertanian melalui teknologi biokonversi menjadi pupuk organik. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu dengan cara memberikan sosialisasi dan pelatihan terkait pestisida alami pupuk organik sebagai inovasi pemanfaataan limbah biomassa pascapanen kelompok tani suka maju dengan peserta 30 orang. Selanjutnya dilakukan evaluasi dengan metode pre-test dan post-test sebanyak 10 soal pilihan ganda yang diisi oleh peserta kegiatan dalam bentuk kuisioner. Hasil evaluasi dari kegiatan ini telah mencapai seluruh indikator keberhasilan yaitu kehadiran peserta 100% dari seluruh undangan yang disebar dan pengetahuan peserta mengalami peningkatan berdasarkan hasil pre-test (50,25%) dan post-test (90,25%) yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya.Abstract: Agricultural waste has been burned or disposed of carelessly, causing pollution and environmental damage. Through training and mentoring, the community is given an understanding and hands-on practice in processing organic waste into products with economic value. It is hoped that the results of the activity will show increased knowledge, reduced dependence on synthetic fertilizers, and the creation of new business opportunities based on sustainable agriculture. This activity aims to increase community awareness and skills in managing agricultural waste through bioconversion technology into organic fertilizer. The method used is by providing socialization and training related to natural pesticides and organic fertilizers as an innovation in utilizing post-harvest biomass waste from the Suka Maju farmer group with 30 participants. Furthermore, an evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test methods filled out by the activity participants in the form of questionnaires. The evaluation results of this activity have achieved all indicators of success, namely 100% participant attendance from all invitations distributed and participant knowledge has increased based on the results of the pre-test (50.25%) and post-test (90.25%) that have been conducted previously.
