Abstract

Mite is a species of arthropod of the class Arachnida, subclass Acari or Acarina, that lives in various habitats. House dust mites (TDRs) are the main source of allergens in house dust. The purpose of this study is to identify the existence and types of mites found in human dwellings. This study is an observational analysis carried out by taking samples of house dust in the house. Microscopic examination and identification were carried out in the FMIPA laboratory, UPR. The results of the study showed the presence of various types of mites, such as Dermatophagoides sp., Blomia tropicalis, Tyrophagus sp. Mite activity leads to a loss of sanitary quality. Inhalation, swallowing, or contact with mites, metabolic byproducts, and feces can cause susceptible individual sensitivities and cause asthma, allergic rhinitis, contact dermatitis, enteritis, and cause anaphylaxis. Monitoring the temperature and humidity in the home is essential for mite control, as well as better conservation and hygiene.

Abstract

The community empowerment program which focuses on innovation in processed fish products at the AB Banteng KKSS Palangkaraya Pool aims to overcome the problem of stunting among children by increasing nutritional intake. This initiative utilizes freshwater fish as an abundant source of local protein, by processing them into nutritious products such as nuggets, sausages and fish balls. The method used is the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which identifies and exploits local potential and involves the community in the entire production process. The program results show a significant reduction in the prevalence of stunting from 30% to 18%, an increase in children's daily protein intake from 35 grams to 60 grams, and an increase in average height of 2 cm. This program has also succeeded in increasing community skills and knowledge in fish processing, as well as providing economic benefits through job creation and increased income. Local government support to include processed fish products in school food programs also ensures the sustainability and expansion of program benefits. Challenges faced include changes in eating habits and environmental conditions, which are addressed through intensive nutritional education and pond management training.

Abstract

The abuse of Narcotics, Psychotropics, and Addictive Substances (NAPZA) poses a serious threat to adolescents, including junior high school students. This community service activity aimed to increase students' knowledge and awareness of the dangers of NAPZA through a counseling program conducted at SMPN 1 Sanaman Mantikei. The method involved interactive material presentations, group discussions, and pretest-posttest evaluations. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge, from 69% to 92% in “good” category after the counseling. This indicates that health education is an effective preventive strategy against substance abuse among adolescents. The activity received positive responses from both students and school staff. Sustainable education programs and integration of NAPZA-related topics into the school curriculum are necessary to build adolescents’ resilience against negative environmental influences. Consistent and collaborative efforts are key to protecting the younger generation from the dangers of drug abuse.

Abstract

In the 1970s bedbug infestation was thought to have disappeared, but since the 2000s, the appearance of bedbugs has been reported worldwide. Studies on bed bugs were carried out in several residential locations in Palangka Raya. This study aims to determine the existence of bed bugs in residential areas and the biological aspects of bed bugs. Survey and collection of bedbugs are carried out in densely populated areas. The results of the study showed that out of 20 houses observed, there were 2 houses that were identified with the presence of bed bugs. The only species of bed bug found is the, Cimex lecturarius. Bed bug infestation is observed in the beds. This shows that there is a potential for bed bugs to cause itching on the skin and allergic reactions in the occupants of the house. The population of bed bugs has the opportunity to spread to other residents' settlements.

Abstract

Aromatherapy candles are candles made by mixing a base material, such as solid paraffin, with essential oils derived from certain plants. Training activities aimed at increasing knowledge in developing new products are still rarely conducted. This situation also occurs at SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya, where there is a lack of practical skills training programs that utilize local potential, as well as limited entrepreneurship development among students. This community service activity was conducted in October 2025 and aimed to provide training in making aromatherapy candles to students of SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya. This program employed the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method and focused on producing aromatherapy candles using a combination of cinnamon and citronella essential oils. The main participants were 45 tenth-grade students. The improvement in students’ skills was measured using pre-tests and post-tests, along with questionnaires regarding the aromatherapy candle-making training. The results showed that 53.33% of participants were interested in the skills to be acquired, 55.56% rated the implementation of the activity as very good, and 51.11% considered the theme of the activity to be very beneficial. Evaluation results indicated that 81.2% of participants demonstrated excellent knowledge in the candle-making process. The pre-test and post-test results also showed an improvement in scores after the training was conducted. In conclusion, the aromatherapy candle-making training using a combination of cinnamon and citronella essential oils at SMA Negeri 2 Palangka Raya was successfully implemented and achieved its intended objectives. This was evidenced by the high enthusiasm of participants and the improvement in their knowledge and skills after participating in the activity.
