Abstract

Research on blood smear and various disorder in Bali cattle have been conducted at 124 oxen and 76cows. Blood specimens taken from cattle slaughtered cattle in Slaughterhouse Mambal Badung Regency,Bali and blood smear were performed   by a method described elsewhere. Results showed the mean of differential count of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, basophilsand bands in female Bali cattle bands respectively (average + standard deviation): (47.76 ± 12.13)%, (9.84± 5, 32)%, (39.09 ± 12.55)%, (2.25 ± 2.40)%, (0.33 ± 1.18)%, (0.21 ± 1.01)%. In bali cattle males, thoseresults were : (46.48 ± 8.18)%, (9.84 ± 4.35)%, (40.51 ± 8.29)%, (1.48 ± 1.69)%; (0.45 ± 0.84)%, (0.57 ±0.99)%. Abnormalities that were found are: eosinophenia, monocytosis, Neutrophilia, lymphopenia andlymphocytosis, anisocytosis, poikilocytosis (the presence of akhantocytes, dacrocyt), and hypochromasia. In summary Bali cattle are observed to have abnormalities in the blood cells.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare two kind of urinalysis dipsticks normaly used for human, for used in balicattle. A total of 100 urine samples were collected from 78 bulls and 22 cows ages between 4-7 years old. Each sample was kept in a plastic bottle and labelled until urinalysis was performed. Both dipstickshowed different urin chemical analysis results, except for nitrite. However, in general both dipsticksshowed consistency urinalysis results. Therefore, the two dipsticks can be used for urinalysis in balicattle.

Abstract

This research was aimed to observe serum turbidity and blood sedimentation rate (ESR) as a predictorof hepatic damage in bali cattle. Two hundred whole blood and sera from 80 male and 120 female bullswere sampled from Mambal abbatoir, Badung, Bali. All blood were examined for their ESR and sera werefor their turbidity using ZnSO4 solution, besides we observed some hepatic damages pathology anatomicallywithout incision such as : internal bleeding, formation of connective tissue, swelling, and bile-ductenlargement. all of those damages were scaled graded from 0 (without abnormality) to 4 (more than 75%liver surface has abnormalities). Results showed all 86% bulls (male 32% and female 54%) have their seraturbidity ranged from 1,01-2,00, besides, 89% bulls (45% male and 44% female) have their ESR rangedfrom 3-8 mm in 24 hours. Most of liver abnormalities were : swelling (58%), bile-duct enlargement (50,5%),connective tissue formation (73%), and bleeding (59%) most of them were falling in scale 1 (less than 25%of liver surface area). Also, ESR has positive correlation (P<0,05) with connective tissue formation andserum turbidity value could be used to predict internal bleeding and connective tissue formation. It couldbe concluded ESR value could be used as a predictor of connective tissue formation and serum turbidityvalue could be used as a predictor for internal bleeding and connective tissue formation in bali cattle.

Abstract

This study aim was to observe cellular composition and morphology in peritoneal and synovial fluids ofbali ducks. This study used 50 ducks, which were composed of 21 males and 29 females aged 8 to 12 weeks. After being declared clinically healthy, the sample ducks were slaughtered and peritoneal fluid specimenfrom the abdominal cavity and the synovial fluid of joints tibiotarsal were collected. Then, in preparationfor the specimen, each of fluid was smeared and stained with Giemsa. Observations were made under amicroscope with a magnification of 1000 times and observations expressed in the average number of cellsper field of view observation. The results showed (duck population that most of the observed sample): inthe peritoneal fluid there was 36% eosinophils observed and 38% had heterophile cells with 0-3 cells perfield of magnification 1000x view. Similarly, 28% ducks had lymphocytes with 13-16 cells, and as much as28% of ducks had macrophage cells with 5- 8 cells in observation . In the synovial fluid, however, 64%sample ducks had monocytes, while 72% having lymphocytes with 1-18 cells each of view field withmagnification 1000x. In addition, in the synovial fluid, as much as 62% of ducks also observed had 1 to 3cells heterophiles and 60% ducks had eosinophils (polimorphonuclear cells) per view field observation.Macrophage cells that were found in the peritoneal fluid were mainly hyper granulated. It can be concludedthat the amount of mononuclear cells in both types of body fluids is likely more dominant compared to thenumber of polymorphonuclear cells.

Abstract

Catharanthus roseus is one plant recognized as medical potential which can decrease cholesterol. Thepresent study was carried out to evaluate the effect of aqueous leaf extracts of C. roseus on plasma lipidprofil levels in rats cholesterol rich diet and atherogenic index. This study was carried out on 15 SpraqueDawley male rats randomly distributed into five groups (n=3). Rats hypercholesterolemic wereadministrated cholesterol rich diet containing 1% (w/w). Normal control group with normal diet whitoutextracts (K1), positive control hypercholesterolemic group (K2) with cholesterol rich diet whitout extracts, and others three groups (K3-K5) were feed high cholesterol and 1 mL of aqueous leaf extracts of C. roseuswith a dose of 20% (w/v), 40% (w/v) and 80% (w/v) respectively, administered twice daily 1 mL orally.Treatment was given for 28 days. After treatment, the plasma lipids profile such cholesterol total, highdensity lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TGA) level were measured. Theresults showed that during the period of treatment with cholesterol rich diet have produced under condition hypercholesterolemic of rats with average cholesterol levels of 124.33 ± 4.04 mg/dL (K2 group). Treatmentwith extract dose of 80% showed the best results among the other doses in reducing levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and raise HDL levels. Extract treatment dose of 80% up to four weeks resulted incholesterol total (79.33±3.51 mg/dL), TGA (72.33±6.65 mg/dL), HDL (55.00±3.60 mg/dL), and LDL(9.87±5.34mg/dL). In addition, value ratio of cholesterol:HDL was 1.4: 1 and atherogenic index value was0.44. These results suggest that extracts of leaf C. roseus optimum doses 80% (w/v) has hipolipidemicactivity in hypercholesterolemic rats and it has low atherogenic index value.
