Abstract

Abstract

Baluran National Park faces public pressure in the form of illegal grazing, which threatens the preservation of flora and fauna in it. This study aims to analyze illegal grazing activities that threaten the conservation efforts of Baluran National Park in Sumberwaru Village, Asembagus district, Situbondo. Data collection was carried out from April to June 2021 with a qualitative approach. The data were taken from several key informants, namely 3 Baluran National Park officers, the Village Head of Sumberwaru, the Head of Loka Pasuruan, the Situbondo Livestock Service, and 12 extensive semi-intensive beef cattle breeders. The results showed that the behavior of illegal grazing was caused by cultural factors that did not prioritize profit but only as an investment and indicator of social status. As a result, maintenance management is very efficient and depends on feed that can be obtained for free by grazing wildly in the Baluran National Park conservation area. The solution required is a participatory Collaborative Forest Management that benefits all stakeholders.

Abstract

Sausage is one type of processed chicken meat wrapped in a sleeve. Chicken sausage is a food that is in great demand by modern society, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic season because it is practical, affordable, cheap, durable, and can be found anywhere. Based on its population, the Kediri city is the third largest city in East Java. During the pandemic and after the pandemic, chicken sausage was one of the products that experienced an increase. The purpose of this study was to examine the organoleptic quality of chicken sausages in the Kediri city. The research was conducted in October-December 2020 at Universitas Brawijaya Kediri on five different samples chicken sausage. The composition of the sample was recorded and the organoleptic quality was analyzed by 50 semi-trained panelists. The results of the organoleptic test showed that the different types of chicken sausage had highly significant difference (p<0.01) on the color, texture, aroma, chicken sausage taste, juiciness, ease of biting, ease of chewing, and hedonic chicken scale. Chicken sausage that has the best organoleptic score is sausage brand number 2 with the highest score on texture, aroma, chicken sausage taste, juiciness, ease of biting, ease of chewing, and hedonic chicken sausage, while the assessment of color, panelists prefer brand number 3.  The conclusion of this study is brand 2 which is a sausage brand “Bernardi” has the best acceptance by consumers because this sausage is made from premium ingredients and paprika oleoresin with a natural taste.

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining the effect of clove meal addition in diets on nutrient digestibility and metabolizable energy in broilers and whether it could be an alternative to antibiotics or not. In this experiment, twenty-four 35-day-old broilers of the chicken strain Lohman were used. A total of twenty broiler chickens were selected as representatives for determining the digestibility. The treatment diets were: T0 (basal diet), T1 (basal diet + 0.25% clove meal), T2 (basal diet + 0.5% clove meal), T3 (basal diet + 0.75% clove meal), and T4 (basal diet + 1% clove meal). The variables measured were dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, apparent protein digestibility, true digestible protein (TDP), Apparent Metabolizable Energy (AME), True Metabolizable Energy (TME), Nitrogen Corrected Apparent Metabolizable Energy (AMEn) and Nitrogen Corrected True Metabolizable Energy (TMEn). A completely random design was used, with five treatments and four replications. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and differences among treatments were examined using Duncan’s multiple range test. The results show that the treatment influences significantly (P<0.05) of dry matter, organic matter, apparent protein digestibility, and TDP. In contrast, there were no significant effects (p>0,05) of dietary treatment on AME, TME, AMEn, and TMEn. However, the addition of 0.75% clove meal indicated the best result in AME, TME, AMEn, and TMEn. It can be concluded that the experiment indicated that the addition of clove meal (Syzygium aromaticum L.) in 0.75% on the diet of broiler chickens was effective in increasing the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, TDP, and metabolizable energy.

Abstract

Since the 1960s, or for four generations, farmers who live close to Baluran National Park have been grazing or raising beef cattle extensively illegally. Since there is not enough forage for beef cattle, their presence in the Baluran National Park area interferes with the preservation of wildlife. This is brought on by the shortage of forage. Farmers continue to use the traditional rearing method, which was self-taught and is not supported by systematic recording. As a result, there is a high risk of inbreeding, difficult calving, and disease contracting, particularly in cases of cattle collapses and outbreaks of FMD in even hoofed animals like cows. The absence of livestock extension staff in the region contributes to farmers' lack of understanding about reproduction, particularly estrus detection and illness prevention. The Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Service, Situbondo Regency, and the Community and Livestock Research Group (CLRG) Team of the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya, Malang, have worked together to aid in the form of Indigofera sp. seeds as forage for animal feed, forage processing technology into silage, the concept of communal pens (groups) for farmers, and facilitate the formation of the Lembu Brawijaya. Direct observation of beef cattle and interviews with farmers and Baluran National Park personnel will be the research methods employed in the project. The outcomes of this study can serve as a guide for figuring out the best course of action for increasing livestock productivity and intensive rearing. It is also expected that cattle will not grazed in the Baluran National Park area and restore its function as a biosphere conservation area.  Farmers can monitor their cattle better when they raise them intensively, which is supported by systematic recording and disease prevention.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the factors of consumer behavior that can influence the beef purchasing decision process through e-commerce. In this study, data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The questionnaire used in this study was a closed questionnaire with a Likert scale using Google Forms media. The sampling technique was carried out by random sampling, the conditions for the respondents used in this study were those who had purchased beef products through e-commerce. The number of samples in this study were 100 respondents. The results of this study indicate that the factors of consumer behavior which include personal factors, psychological factors, cultural factors, and social factors together have a significant influence on the buying decision process. This is due to consumers' curiosity about beef products and the ease of shopping online. This consumer behavior can be used as a measuring tool to predict purchasing decisions. Cultural factors partially have no significant effect on the decision to purchase beef products through e-commerce platforms as evidenced by the partial test results.
