Abstract

This research aims to comprehend the concept of moderation in Islamic preaching and Christian missions. The research has three objectives: firstly, to uncover the practice of moderation in Islamic preaching; secondly, to elucidate the manifestation of moderation in Christian missions; and thirdly, to analyze the similarities and differences between moderation in Islamic preaching and Christian missions. Employing a qualitative text-based research method with a literature review approach, the study is conducted on social media platforms by searching for articles from relevant journals. The data sources consist of secondary data collected from literature obtained from journals related to the research problem. Data collection involves searching for journals browsed on portals such as Garuda, Moraref, DOAJ, Google Scholar, and the National Library. Data analysis encompasses data reduction, data classification, data presentation, and data interpretation. The results reveal that the concept of moderation in Islamic preaching facilitates the peaceful and tolerant delivery of preaching invitations with openness to all religious differences. Essentially, moderation in Christian missions aims to prevent extreme, radical, and excessive attitudes in practicing Christian teachings. Additionally, it embraces all religious diversity within Christianity. This research concludes that moderation in Islamic preaching promotes balanced preaching delivery, fostering mutual respect among Muslims. Meanwhile, moderation in Christian missions requires an open-minded approach that embraces all religious differences within Christianity.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the discourse of religious moderation as conveyed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, utilizing Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis (CDA) framework. The primary focus is on understanding how religious moderation is represented, how power relations are constructed, and how identity is formed through this discourse. The study adopts a qualitative approach, applying Fairclough's techniques for critical discourse analysis. Data were collected from content related to religious moderation on the official website of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The analysis divides the discourse into three levels: Microstructural, Mesostructural, and Macrostructural. At the Microstructural level, the findings indicate that the representation in the discourse of religious moderation includes comprehensive information and clear metaphors, establishing power relations and positioning journalists as part of governmental authority. At the Mesostructural level, it was found that the Ministry of Religious Affairs' website functions as a government information medium in the religious domain, with journalists as members of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, reaffirming power relations in the dissemination of the discourse. Furthermore, the Macrostructural analysis reveals that the Ministry of Religious Affairs' efforts to construct a narrative of religious moderation are a strategic response to social threats disrupting national unity, such as radicalism and intolerance. This study confirms that the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia uses its website as the primary platform for spreading the discourse of religious moderation as an effort to face social challenges and strengthen national unity. The critical discourse analysis demonstrates that representation, power relations, and identity formation through the discourse of religious moderation play a crucial role in this effort.

Abstract

Parents are people who are entitled to the glory and appreciation of their children. However, in terms of giving appreciation to both people, sometimes children make a difference between the two. A mother gets a higher award than her father, so here there is discrimination in the form of glorifying them. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the assessment of the Qur'an on the equality of fathers and mothers in Islam, so as not to bring up arguments that can corner one another. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods related to the equality of fathers and mothers in the perspective of the Qur'an. The results of this study can be concluded, that the Qur'an highly respects both parents and has the same rights and obligations of their children. This can be seen from the form of equality described in the Qur'anic verse which explains the division of inheritance, filial piety to both parents, wills, provision of a living, justice, principles in Islamic teachings, lessons for the former and disobedience to both people old.

Abstract

Or.Id. Or.Id. Sedangkan Muslim.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the model and achievements of zakat management during the reign of Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz (717–720 AD), known as a period of socio-economic reform in Islamic history. Umar bin Abdul Aziz succeeded in establishing a transparent, fair, and effective zakat system, so that poverty was almost nonexistent in his territory. In addition, this study also examines various problems in zakat management in Indonesia and presents solutions or suggestions for zakat management in Indonesia. This study uses a historical-descriptive approach through a review of classical and contemporary literature. The results show that the success of zakat management during Umar bin Abdul Aziz's reign was due to three main factors: leadership integrity, administrative reform based on sharia, and the implementation of productive zakat distribution. Meanwhile, the main problems in zakat management today are the problem of inadequate human resources, lack of integrity in zakat management, lack of transparency and accountability, and the use of technology that is not yet optimal. The findings of Umar bin Abdul Aziz's successful zakat management are considered highly relevant as a model for zakat policy in the modern era, aimed at building a just and sustainable Islamic economy, particularly in addressing various zakat problems and managing them.

Abstract

This study examines how Ibrahim Musa Parabek (1883-1963) integrated theology, rationalism, and empirical science within the colonial intellectual context of early twentieth-century Minangkabau. Departing from dichotomous and synthetic frameworks that dominate existing scholarship on Islamic modernism, this paper argues that his epistemological project constitutes a structured form of epistemic hybridity produced within a localized Third Space. Drawing on Bhabha’s theoretical apparatus of hybridity, mimicry, and Third space, and employing thematical-content analysis of primary texts, historical-contextual reconstruction, and hermeneutic-philosophical synthesis, this study identifies three operative mechanisms in Ibrahim’s thought: domain differentiation (taqsīm al-majāl), hierarchical ordering of knowledge sources (tartīb), and functional mimicry of rational-scientific procedures. Analysis of Ijābat al-Sūl, Hidāyat al-Ṣibyān, and Thawalib Parabek teaching manuscripts demonstrates that reason was granted bounded cognitive authority in worldly domains while revelation retained exclusive normative jurisdiction. These findings reconceptualize hybridity as epistemic modulation, reframe Thawalib Parabek as a productive institution of Islamic knowledge production, and demonstrate that alternative modernities can be constructed from within Islamic doctrinal traditions without compromising their foundational premises.

Abstract

This study examines the ambivalent reception of Islam Nusantara in Minangkabau, West Sumatra, where local Islamic practices associated with cultural accommodation remain socially accepted, while the label Islam Nusantara is strongly contested. The study is important because it addresses a paradox in Minangkabau religious life: practices such as maulid, badikia, grave pilgrimages, communal recitations, malamang, and post-death rituals are embedded in local Islamic traditions, yet become suspicious when explicitly associated with Islam Nusantara. Using a qualitative approach, this research draws on semi-structured interviews with 16 informants, including ulama, Nahdlatul Ulama leaders and activists, ninik mamak, and community members in Padang Pariaman and Pasaman Barat. The study also analyzes online news reports, institutional statements, and public discourse materials published between 2018 and 2022. Data were examined through thematic analysis using Jan Hajda’s theory of ambivalence. The findings show three main patterns: first, the coexistence of practice acceptance and label rejection; second, the role of ABS–SBK as a contested interpretive field rather than a fixed philosophy of Islam and adat; and third, the production of threat narratives through institutional authority, elite framing, digital circulation, and trusted informal networks. This study contributes to the literature on Islam Nusantara, local Islam, and religious authority by showing that resistance to a religious discourse may emerge not from the substance of practice, but from the stigma, authority, and symbolic burden attached to its label.
