This study used a qualitative method with phenomenological approach. Selection of a method purposive. Selection of informants using methods purposive ie businesses which process local food derived from terrestrial plant. The results showed that the meaning of efforts in the development of local food is positive as it can be an additional source of income for families, create jobs and expand social networks, but variations in the types of processed and flavor is still less diverse and less than optimal marketing. Primary and secondary stakeholders involved in the development of local food by providing assistance and motivation to constantly improve the quality and quantity of processed food products locally as well as marketing. But some stakeholders are not optimal involvement in the development of local food. The lack of optimization due to a lack of common ground between the businessmen and the stakeholders as well as between the stakeholders. Looking forward there are organizations that can coordinate and stakeholder businesses so that they can equate the views related to the development of local food and stakeholders can engage with the optimal local food  development becomes more leverage.

Abstract

Corporate farming is an agricultural innovation to answer narrow land tenure problems due to widespread land conversion and land fragmentation. The principle of corporate farming is land consolidation with one joint management. This research attempts to determine the decision-making process for corporate farming innovation in Bantul Regency, using an exploratory approach with the Social Network Analysis (SNA) method and ego-centered network analysis. The ego in this study is the innovator and chairman of the corporate farming team. The results of the study were presented in a sociogram using Pajek software. The actors involved in the corporate farming innovation decision-making process are the head of farmer groups, administrators, team leaders, member farmers, Bantul Regency Agricultural Service, local extension agents, and stakeholders including the Research Team of the UGM Faculty of Agriculture, Bank Indonesia Regional DIY, and BPTP DIY. The introduction stage was carried out in a farmer group meeting, and the UGM Faculty of Agriculture Research Team acts as the innovator. It is followed by the persuasion stage, which explains the benefits of implementing corporate farming during subsequent farmer group meetings. The decision stage is indicated by providing direction, assistance, and financial support, which relied on group agreement to commit corporate farming. The farmer groups’ heads dominated the persuasion stage, the decision stage, and the implementation stage. The differences between corporate farming and individual farming lie in some aspects, such as working together rather than individual work, semi-organic cultivation systems, and optimizing the use of agricultural machinery. At the confirmation stage, 62% of informants disagree to continue corporate farming due to significant drops in production yields. The change in the cultivation system from chemical to semi-organic is one reason for the decline in production. Keywords: corporate farming, ego-centered network, decision-making process, social network analysis

Abstract

Social capital is social energy in a community used to actuate a farmer group to be more dynamic to gain an end. Social capital cannot be formed by farmers individually, but it extremely depends on farmer group’s capacity and government to build trust, norms and social networks. Qualitative method is used in this research. The data collection is completed by using triangulation including non-participant observation, interview in depth, and documentation. The approach used is a case study that is to study the role of social capital in improving the dynamics of the Orange farmer group Sidomulyo IV, Sidomulyo village, Umbulsari subdistrict, Jember regency. The study results show that the members’ trust toward the farmer group Sidomulyo IV motivates their members to work together and to actively participate in the community’s activities to achieve their goals, so that their group becomes more dynamic. Cooperation creates the norms for the farmer group including the meeting schedule, the cash collection, the facility utilization, government help administration, and pest and disease management. It also builds social networks to fulfill the members’ needs involving the official kiosks of production utilities, gapoktan (farmer group alliance), government, Orange traders, and Hippa (association of waterusing farmers). Counseling activity through SL program (field school) also can increase farmer group’s social capital.
