Abstract

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesian society used family medicinal plants to prevent infection by enhancing immunity. Consumption of medicinal plants as herbal medicine should have scientific consideration so that the benefits can be proven and do not cause harmful side effects. Cultivation of medicinal plants is necessary to meet the needs of the family's medicinal plants independently. Methods: We designed a community-based education to improve literacy about the cultivation and utilization of family medicinal plants to farmer groups at Blunyahrejo, Yogyakarta. The study used a quasi-experimental research design with one group pre-post-test design. The group received an intervention in the form of training on the use and cultivation of medicinal plants. Community literacy was measured before and after participants attended the training. The 1st post-test has been conducted right after the training and the 2nd post-test was carried out after 3 months of intervention. The data were analyzed by a paired t-test.Results: The total number of participants who participated was 28 people. Observations have also been done during and after the training. The study showed that there was an increase in knowledge about the cultivation and utilization of family medicinal plants between the pre-test and 1st post-test, 1st post-test and 2nd post-test, and the pre-test and 2nd post-test (9.96%; 1.98%; 12.04%).Conclusion: The training improved the literacy about the cultivation and utilization of family medicinal plants of the farmer group in Blunyahrejo, Yogyakarta. Although the number of participants was quite small, participants showed a positive response during and after the training. Community leaders often reported the activities of farmer groups that showed enthusiasm for maintaining and continuing the cultivation of medicinal plants after the training.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore community participation in the development of Kampung Batik Semarang as a rural tourism destination. This research uses an exploratory qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews with 11 informants, observation, and documentation from March to July 2025. The Kampung Batik Semarang Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) is the main actor in mobilizing participation, facilitating communication, and sustaining tourism development. This study concludes that effective village tourism development requires a balance between external support and local autonomy, as well as strengthening democratic processes through bottom-up and horizontal communication models that will ensure a fair distribution of benefits. Pokdarwis in Kampung Batik Semarang shows that empowering the community as active agents in tourism makes a positive contribution, especially for economic and social well-being.

Abstract

Background: Food safety is a critical issue in the tourism sector, as handling unsafe food can lead to foodborne diseases and negatively affect public health and tourist satisfaction. Food handlers play an important role in maintaining food safety; however, their knowledge and practice are often still inadequate. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of food handlers regarding food safety management at Negeri Kahyangan Tourism. Methods: This activity was conducted on November 21, 2025, in Negeri Kahyangan Torism, Wonolelo Village, Sawangan District, Magelang Regency, involving 24 food handlers. This community service included educational sessions and hands-on practice on food safety management, covering personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, temperature control, and proper food handling. Evaluation was conducted using pretest and posttest questionnaires consisting of 15 items. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 67.5 (pretest) to 79.72 (post test). The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 25% to 54.2%, while those with poor knowledge decreased from 20.6% to 0%. Statistical analysis indicated a significant improvement (p=0.002). However, some misconceptions remained, particularly regarding food handling during illness (66.7% incorrect), waste management (41.7%), and microbial contamination (37.5%). Conclusion: The community service program was effective in improving food handlers’ knowledge of food safety management. However, continuous education and practical reinforcement are needed, especially on critical aspects such as personal hygiene, waste management, and contamination prevention, to ensure safer food handling practices in tourism settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, with prevalence among children under five exceeding 20% in the past decade. To address this, the government established Family Assistance Teams (TPK) and introduced smart posters as educational tools for stunting prevention. This study aims to explore how the role of TPK, together with mothers’ attitudes toward smart posters, shapes their perceived stunting prevention behaviors in Bogor Regency, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2024 among 120 mothers of children under two from nine sub-districts in West, Central, and East Bogor who had received smart posters during pregnancy between 22 November 2022 and 16 April 2023. Participants were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire and analyzed with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test eight hypotheses. Results: PLS-SEM revealed that the role of Family Assistance Teams (TPK) was positively associated with mothers’ attitudes toward smart posters (β=0.42) and directly improved stunting prevention behaviors (β=0.51). Attitudes toward smart posters significantly influenced both stunting knowledge (β=0.51) and behaviors (β=0.21), whereas knowledge itself showed no significant association with behaviors (β= – 0.13). Attitudes fully mediated the effect of TPK on knowledge (β=0.21) and partially mediated its effect on behaviors (β=0.09). The model showed moderate predictive power (R²=0.31; Q²=0.20). The most effective pathway to strengthen stunting prevention behaviors was the direct influence of TPK (β=0.51), further enhanced by positive attitudes toward smart posters as behavioral boosters (β=0.09). Conclusion: The study shows that Family Assistance Teams (TPK) directly improve mothers’ stunting prevention behaviors and foster positive attitudes toward smart posters. These attitudes enhance both knowledge and behaviors, fully \mediating the effect of TPK on knowledge and partially mediating its effect on behaviors. The most effective pathway is the direct role of TPK, strengthened by positive attitudes toward smart posters.

Abstract

Technological development has encouraged the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture to support smarter, more efficient, and sustainable farming systems. This study is novel in examining ICT utilization across three contrasting topographies within a single regency, and in finding that farming experience reduces — rather than increases — ICT use, while land area outweighs access-based factors such as device ownership. Purworejo Regency is a relevant area for such analysis due to its varied land characteristics. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing ICT utilization among smallholder farmers who are members of farmer groups in Purworejo Regency. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed through a survey of 87 farmers in three subdistricts representing topographical variation, namely Bener, Ngombol, and Purwodadi. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that farming experience had a negative and significant effect, while land area had a positive and significant effect on ICT utilization. Meanwhile, age, education, status in farmer groups, land status, and number of ICT devices owned had no significant effect. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on smallholder farmers in a geographically diverse agricultural area and in examining the local level determinants of ICT use. These findings provide useful insights for developing more targeted agricultural digitalization policies and extension programs.
