Abstract

This research analyzes benefit and profit of Gambier farming and identifies the factors for its productivity. I surveyed 30 farmers in Kecamatan Harau, Lima Puluh Kota district, where Gambier is widely cultivated. Farming analysis is applied for benefit and profit calculation. Cobb Douglass model is utilized for factors of productivity identification. Farmers cultivate varies hectares of land for Gambier, from 1-3 Ha. Its productivity is considerably low, 737.5 Kg/Ha/years. The benefit is Rp. 16.093.475,-/ year, and the profit is Rp 288.208,20,-/Ha/yearin average respectively. Farmers’ monthly income from Gambier farming is Rp.1.341.122,917 and monthly profit is Rp. 690.684,02,- in average. In addition, fertilizer (urea), herbicide (round up), plant age, labor, and farmer’s education are the factors which significantly correlated (F test) to Gambier’s productivity. However, it is not significantly partial correlation (t test) betweenthose factors to Gambier productivity. Based on these findings, farmers have to manage their Gambier farming properly by using its residue for organic fertilizer and apply good soil management.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of zeolite size on the levels of elements of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the wastewater of palm oil anerob ponds that can produce nutrients that are good for the growth of oil palm plants. This research was conducted using Factorial Completely Randomized Design with one treatment factor, namely zeolite size with three levels, namely zeolite with particle size of 20 mesh (A1), zeolite with particle size of 40 mesh (A2), zeolite with particle size of 60 mesh (A3). With two weeks composting time with the addition of EM4 and holding time after zeolite administration for 2 weeks. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance, and if the treatment was real or not real, a 5% test was performed. The results showed that the treatment of zeolite particle size significantly affected the parameters of nitrogen (N), Phosphor (P), Potassium (K) nutrients. The characteristics of the maturity of the compost are described as the color of the sample changes from clear yellow to brown darkness, smells like humus or soil and the reaction is slightly sour until neutral, there is a slight foam on the surface and the temperature follows room temperature. Significantly there is a sample added with zeolite with a particle size of 60 mesh, because the smaller the zeolite particles, the higher the results of the levels of Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium due to the smaller zeolite particles react faster.

Abstract

Salah satu cara untuk memanfaatkan pelepah daun kelapa sawit sebagai sumber unsur hara tanaman adalah dalam bentuk kompos. Pelepah daun kelapa sawit mengandung lignin yang tinggi maka proses pengomposan pelepah daun kelapa sawit membutuhkan waktu lama. Limbah padat Palm Kernel Cake (PKC) dihasilkan dari proses pengolahan inti sawit untuk menghasilkan minyak inti sawit. PKC yang telah difermentasi memiliki kandungan nutrisi tinggi. Nutrisi tersebut diharapkan dapat menjadi sumber makanan mikroorganisme sehingga dapat berkembangbiak dan bertumbuh dengan cepat pada kompos. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas kompos pelepah kelapa sawit. Pada penelitian ini terdapat lima perlakuan yaitu : P0 Kontrol (2 kg pelepah), P1 2 kg pelepah dan 0,2 kg PKC, P2 2 kg pelepah dan 0,4 kg PKC, P3 2 kg pelepah dan 0,8 kg PKC, P4 2 kg pelepah dan 0,4 kg dedak dengan ulangan 5 kali. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan Perlakuan PKC dan dedak padi berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap kadar C-organik dan kadar N (nitrogen) kompos pelepah kelapa sawit dan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap rasio C/N kompos pelepah kelapa sawit. Kadar C-organik, kadar N (Nitrogen) dan rasio C/N pada semua perlakuan telah memenuhi SNI 19-7030-2004.
