Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that poses a significant public health challenge both globally and nationally, with its prevalence continuously increasing among adults aged ≥18 years. This study aims to analyze the influence of lifestyle on the risk of hypertension in adults through a literature review, examining recent studies on diet, physical activity, smoking habits, caffeine consumption, and stress management. The review findings indicate that unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, such as excessive intake of salt, sugar, and fat, lack of physical activity, smoking, high caffeine consumption, and chronic stress, significantly increase the risk of hypertension. Conversely, adopting a healthy lifestyle can reduce blood pressure, prevent complications, and improve quality of life. These findings highlight the importance of community-based nursing interventions that include patient education, monitoring, and guidance to consistently implement lifestyle modifications

Abstract

Abstract Chest pain can indicate life-threatening cardiovascular conditions; therefore, primary care nurses need optimal triage skills and strong clinical reasoning to make appropriate referral decisions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of gamification-based chest pain triage education on improving nurses’ clinical reasoning in patient referral decision-making. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using 12 articles published between 2020 and 2025, obtained from Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, SINTA, PubMed, and national nursing journals. Results: Technology-based triage education, including videos, virtual reality, web-based systems, and gamification, improved nurses’ knowledge, skills, speed, accuracy, and clinical reasoning in chest pain triage. Conclusion: Gamification-based triage education is effective in enhancing the quality of nurses’ referral decisions. This method is recommended for routine training programs and should be further evaluated through experimental studies Keywords: Triage, chest pain, gamification, clinical reasoning, referral decision, primary care nurses.

Abstract

Thalassemia remains a preventable inherited blood disorder with major clinical, social, and economic consequences, particularly in countries with high carrier prevalence such as Indonesia. University students represent a strategic population for premarital prevention because they are approaching reproductive age and may soon make decisions related to marriage, family planning, and genetic screening. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a Quartet Card Game as an interactive educational medium for improving knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intention toward thalassemia screening among students of YPIB Majalengka University. A quantitative experimental study with a pre-test and post-test control group design was conducted. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention group that received education using the Quartet Card Game and a control group that received conventional lecture-based education. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring thalassemia knowledge, attitudes toward screening, and intention to participate in screening. Inferential analysis showed that the intervention group experienced greater improvement in all outcome variables than the control group. The Quartet Card Game significantly increased students’ knowledge of thalassemia strengthened positive attitudes toward premarital screening and encouraged stronger intention to participate in screening programs. These findings indicate that game-based education can support health promotion by transforming genetic information into active, peer-based, and behavior-oriented learning. The study contributes to thalassemia prevention research by extending game-based educational intervention to university students and by examining cognitive and behavioral outcomes within the Health Belief Model framework. Future studies should include multicenter samples, longer follow-up, and actual screening uptake as an outcome.

Abstract

Cancer imposes a significant health burden, encompassing not only physical symptoms like pain and fatigue but also substantial psychological and spiritual distress, which collectively diminish patients' overall well-being. Given the high cost of care in Indonesia, comprehensive supportive interventions are urgently needed. This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the Psycho Religious Intervention (PRI) model an innovative nursing therapy integrating psychoeducation and contemplative (tafakur) prayer on improving cancer patients' physical well-being. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) design with a pre-post test method was employed. Sixty cancer patients at Dr. Adhyatma Hospital were recruited and equally randomized into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received the PRI model for 30 minutes per session, twice daily, for four consecutive days. Effectiveness analysis using independent-samples t-tests revealed that the PRI model significantly improved physical well-being. The intervention group demonstrated a qualitative improvement from moderate (mean 159.07) to high well-being (mean 181.33), surpassing the control group (mean 161.20). Specifically, the model significantly reduced pain (p=0.010), physical fatigue (p=0.036), and sleep disturbance (p=0.016), although nausea reduction was marginally significant (p=0.058). The PRI Model is established as an effective, evidence-based self-care modality, proving highly relevant for holistic palliative care.
