Abstract

People with non-congenital physical disabilities experience many psychological challenges, including the emergence of negative thoughts. The study aims to identify the relationship between gratitude and resilience as mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. The research subjects were 34 people with non-congenital disabilities, men and women, aged 21 - 55 years old. Data collection used three scales developed by the researchers, namely the Gratitude scale, Positive Thinking scale, and Resilience scale. Data was analyzed using simple regression, the causal step method developed by Baron & Kenny (1986), and the Sobel test. The analysis results showed that (1) there was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the higher the gratitude, the higher the resilience. (2) There was a positive relationship between positive thinking and resilience in a non-congenital disabled person, indicating that the greater the positive thinking, the greater the resilience. (3) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the greater the gratitude, the greater the positive thinking, and conversely the lower the gratitude, the lower the positive thinking. (4) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience, mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. Positive thinking entirely functions as a mediator and has a significant indirect relationship between gratitude and resilience, where gratitude influences positive thinking first, then positive thinking influences resilience in this study’s samples of non-congenital disabled people. Keyword: Positive thinking; gratitude; resilience; non-congenital disabilities.

Abstract

Language learning strategy is one of the main factors that help determine how well our students learn a second or foreign language (Oxford, 2003). Research has shown that more effective language learners use more and better learning strategies than poorer language learners (Rubin, 1975; Stern, 1975). This research investigates the difference in ESL learning strategies used by students with different levels of ESL learner motivation and how gender plays a role in both. Strategy Inventory of Language Learning (SILL; Oxford, 1990) and English Language Learner Motivation Scale (ELLMS; Ardasheva, Tong and Tretter, 2012) were used and adopted to measure English language learning strategies and English language learner motivation, by employing 65 male students and 75 female students from Budi Utama Junior High School as participants. The data analyzed showed that there was significant difference in ESL learning strategies used by the students with different levels of ESL learner motivation but there is no significant role of gender in ESL learner motivation and ESL learning strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between hedonic lifestyle and consumptive behavior in adolescent e-commerce users. This study proposes a hypothesis that there is a positive relationship between hedonic lifestyle and consumptive behavior in adolescent e-commerce users. The subjects in this study were 116 adolescents with an age range of 17-22 years. The data collection method used in this study is to use the Consumptive Behavior Scale and the Hedonic Lifestyle Scale. The data analysis technique used is using product moment correlation. Based on the results of data analysis, the correlation coefficient (rxy) = 0.800 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.001) shows that the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted, namely there is a positive correlation between hedonic lifestyle and consumptive behavior in adolescent e-commerce users. The coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.639 so it can be said that the hedonic lifestyle contributes 63.9% to consumptive behavior and the remaining 36.1% is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

Student activists are actively engaged in organizational activities both within and beyond their university. While such involvement offers benefits such as enhanced social skills and personal development, it can also have negative consequences, including tardiness or absenteeism in classes, a decline in academic performance, and difficulties in completing assignments on time. One manifestation of these challenges is academic procrastination. This study aims to examine the relationship between organizational involvement and academic procrastination, with emotional exhaustion as a mediating variable among college students. The study sample comprised 80 student activists in Yogyakarta, selected using a purposive sampling method. Using path analysis with bootstrapping (1,000 resamples) in IBM® SPSS® AMOS™ 21, the findings reveal a significant mediating effect of emotional exhaustion on the relationship between organizational involvement and academic procrastination. The results indicate that the duration of organizational involvement is associated with higher levels of academic procrastination, mediated by emotional exhaustion. These findings highlight the need for universities to implement programs that help students balance organizational engagement with academic responsibilities, thereby reducing emotional exhaustion and mitigating procrastination. Keyword: Academic procrastination, duration of organizational involvement, emotional exhaustion, organizational activity.

Abstract

There is a gap between parents' expectations of having a healthy and normal child and the reality of having a child born with an intellectual disability. This condition often triggers negative emotional responses such as denial, guilt, and frustration among parents. The inability to accept the child's condition frequently leads to suboptimal parenting, which negatively affects the child's development. Therefore, an effective psychological intervention, such as positive thinking training, is needed to help parents improve their acceptance of children with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to examine the differences in the level of parental acceptance before and after participating in positive thinking training. The research design used was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects consisted of eight parents of children with intellectual disabilities who initially had low scores in parental acceptance. The measurement tool used was the Parental Acceptance Scale, which consists of 48 items with a reliability of 0.957. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon T-Test. The results showed a significant difference in parental acceptance scores before and after the training, with a z-value of 2.525 (p < 0.005). Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-concept and emotional intelligence in early adulthood. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a significant positive relationship between self-concept and emotional intelligence in early adulthood. The subjects in this study were early adults aged 18-25 years. The research method used was a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data collection was conducted using an emotional intelligence scale and a modified self-concept scale from previous research. The sampling technique employed purposive sampling to ensure the selected individuals met the criteria of early adulthood. The data analysis method used product moment correlation analysis (Pearson correlation). The results of the analysis obtained (r_xy) = 0.854 with a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This shows that there is a significant positive relationship between self-concept and emotional intelligence in early adulthood. The coefficient of determination (R^2) is 0.729. This means that self-concept effectively affects emotional intelligence by 72.9%, and the remaining 27.1% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
