Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa SQ3R Technique dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca teks narativ siswa kelas tujuh Mts Miftahussaadah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dengan 3 kali putaran. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 24 siswa. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan test, field note dan observation checklist. Hasil tes tersebut dibandingkan dengan nilai KKM Mts Miftahussaadah. KKM nya adalah 65. Hasil penelitian pertama 50, kedua 65 dan ketiga 71.25. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemahaman membaca siswa kelas tujuh Mts Miftahussaadah berhasil meningkat lebih baik dengan menggunakan SQ3R Technique. Kata kunci: Reading Comprehenstion, Narrative Text, SQ3R Abstract: The purpose of this research is to know how SQ3R Technique can improve the students reading comprehension on narrative text to the seventh grade students of MTs Miftahussaadah. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted 3 cycles. The subject consisted 24 students. The data were collected using the test, field note and the observation checklist. The result of the test was judged by using KKM. The KKM of Mts Miftahussaadah was 65. The result of the first cycle was 50, the second cycle was 65, and the third cycle was 71.25. From the result of the test, it can be concluded that the students reading comprehension on narrative text had been improved. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, SQ3R

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan informasi tentang kualitas butir-butir soal sumatif bahasa Inggris, mengukur validitas, reliabilitas, tingkat kesukaran, daya pembeda dan distraktor butir-butir soal, mengidentifikasi butir-butir soal yang tepat untuk siswa kelas sebelas pada sekolah menengah kejuruan SMKN 2 Singkawang tahun akademik 2012/2013. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Data penelitian di ambil dari soal-soal sumatif dan lembar jawab siswa. Soal tes summatif terdiri dari 50 butir soal dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Berdasarkan analisis secara keseluruhan dapat di simpulkan bahwa ada 33 butir soal yang baik yang dapat di gunakan kembali pada tes sumatif berikutnya, 6 butir soal yang harus di eliminasi atau di ganti dengan soal yang lain dan 11 butir soal yang harus di revisi. Kata kunci: Analisis butir tes, Tes Sumatif. Abstract: The purposes of this research are to provide information about the quality of English summative test items, measuring the validity, reliability, level difficulty, discriminating power and distracters of the test items, identifying the appropriate test items for the eleventh grade student vocational school SMKN 2 Singakawang in academic years 2012/2013. The method of this research is descriptive study. The data were taken from the summative test and students answer sheets. The summative test consists of 50 items in form of multiple choices. Based on the whole analysis of test items, it can be concluded that there are 33 good test items which still can be used to the next summative test, 6 test items should be discarded or changed by the other test item and 11 test items should be revised. Abstract

This research aims to tell SPEAKING model that happened in conversation of Talk Indonesia on Metro TV which can be implemented for teaching and learning process in classroom. The research method that used is descriptive- qualitative. The subject of this research is three editions of Talk Indonesia on Metro TV. The results of data analysis showed that the setting of place and scene are also influencing the psychological situation of the conversation. The speakers are from different backgrounds to talk the linear topics through their backgrounds. The role of speaking is based on sequence structure of turn taking. The conversation is casual, joyful and light-hearted which sometimes produced code mixing, code switching and based on norms of interaction and interpretation Keywords: SPEAKING model, Conversation, Metro TV   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui model SPEAKING yang terjadi di percakapan Talk Indonesia di Metro TV yang dapat diimplementasikan untuk proses belajar mengajar di dalam kelas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-qualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah tiga edisi Talk Indonesia di Metro TV. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa setting tempat dan suasana adalah mempengaruhi situasi psikologi pada percakapan tersebut. Para pembicara berasal dari latar belakang yang berbeda untuk membicarakan topic yang linear dengan latar belakang mereka. Alur berbicara didasarkan pada struktur alur dari mengambil giliran. Percakapan tersebut adalah kasual, menyenangkan dan bersuka ria yang terkadang menghasilkan campur kode, alih kode dan berdasarkan pada norma-norma pada interaksi dan interpretasi. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas XI SMA Negeri 2 Pontianak di tahun ajaran 2013/2014 yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah benar atau tidak kegunaan tehnik Socratic Seminar efektif untuk mengajar berbicara dan mengetahui berapa besar keefektifan kegunaan Socratic Seminar tehnik di dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa inggris siswa melalui teks hortatory exposition. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah experimental semu non-equivalent control group design. Tehnik samplingnya adalah cluster dan sample penelitiannya adalah kelas IPA 3 sebagai kelas ekperimental dan kelas IPA 4 sebagai kelas control. Berdasarkan hasil keefektifan, t-test lebih besar dari t-table dan hal tersebut mendukung hipotesis alternative untuk diterima. Sedangkan efek dari tehnik yang dilakukan menunjukan angka 0.99 dan itu menandakan bahwa efek yang diberikan sangat besar. Kesimpulannya adalah Socratic Seminar efektif dan memberikan pengaruh yang besar dalam pencapaian kemampuan berbicara pada siswa. Kata Kunci : Socratic Seminar, Berbicara, Teks Hortatory Exposition   Abstract: This research was conducted to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. The purposes are to know whether or not the use of Socratic Seminar technique effective in teaching speaking on hortatory exposition text and to know how significant the effectiveness of the use of Socratic Seminar is in improving students’ speaking on hortatory exposition text. A Quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design was used by the writer as the research method. Cluster sampling is the technique sampling and the samples of this research were class IPA 3 as the experimental group and class IPA 4 as the control group. The computation of t-test is higher than t-table, thereforethe alternative hypothesis is accepted. The effect size of the treatment was 0.99 and it was qualified as very strong. The results of this research arethe Socratic Seminar technique is effective andstrong effect toward students’ speaking achievement. Keywords: Socratic Seminar, Speaking, Hortatory Exposition Text

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa baik teknik Reiprocal Teaching meningkatkan komperehensi membaca (arti kata, referensi, dan informasi) pada teks naratif bagi siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. Metide teknik ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelasyang dilaksanakan dalam 3 siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu perencanaa, penerapan, observasi, dan refleksi. Data dikumpulkan melalui ceklis observasi, dan catatan lapangan dari activitas siswa dalam proses belajar pembelajaran, dan lembar jawaban siswa dari tes pilihan ganda. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 34 siswa. Hasil dari analisa data menunjukkan bahwa komperehensi membaca siswa pada teks naratifmeningkat memlalui teknik Reciprocal Teaching. Kata kunci: Reciprocal Teaching, Komperehensi Membaca, Naratif Abstract The purposes of this research is to know how well Reciprocal Teaching technique improve reading comprehension (word meaning, reference and information) on narrative text to the students grade XI of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak. The method of this research is Classroom Action Research. The research was conducted in three cycles. Each of cycle consists of four stages that is planning, acting, observing, and reflecting stage. The data was collected through observation checklist and field note from the students activity in the teaching learning process, and the students answer sheets from the test of multiple choice. Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to solve the problems that were the students’ lack of reading in their first reading, and to find out whether the phonics technique can increase the student’s reading ability. The purposes of this research were: “To obtain how well phonics to improve students’ pronouncing ability” to the students of TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak. In this research, phonics is applied as one technique in order to increase young learner’s reading skill. Phonics is one strategy to help young children in pronouncing words or sentences to measure students’ pronouncing ability. It is used to help students represent sound or sounds. For the young learners, it works as a guideline when they start reading, because they can ready a word or sentences but pronounce its sound. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research. The research was conducted in three cycles. Each of cycle consists of four stages that is planning, action, observing, and reflecting stage. The subject of this research was 15 students who are the students of Kindergarten B TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak. The finding proves that phonics technique is effective to improve the students’ reading ability. The result of this research is the Kindergarten B students of TK Kalam Kudus Pontianak has shown their significant progress in improving reading by using phonics in each cycle: first cycle 1.4 point (very poor), second cycle 2.3 point (average) and third cycle 3.1 point (good). This means that phonics in one technique which is useful to improve students’ reading skill.Keywords: Phonics, Young Learners, Pronouncing, Classroom Action Reseach

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to improve the students’ speaking ability through short drama. Based on the writer experience during teaching, the students find difficulty to get ideas and how to pronounce the dialogue of short drama. The methodology of this research is a classroom action research which consisted of 3 cycles. The research was conducted at SMP DIAN SEBADU in the academic year 2013/2014. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students. The number of participants in this research was 30 students. The result of this research has shown that the students’ progress in improves speaking in each cycle. First cycle was 5.2 point (less than 70, not achieved). The second cycles was 6.2 point (less than 70, not achieved). The third cycle was 7.1 point (Achieved) which was higher than the KKM score. In conclusion, the use of short drama had a value in improving the students’ speaking ability. Key Word: Improving Students’ Speaking Ability Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa melalui drama pendek. Berdasarkan pengalaman penulis selama mengajar, siswa-siswa menemukan kesulitan dalam menemukan ide-ide dari drama pendek dan cara mengucapkan percakapan dari drama pendek tersebut. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari tiga siklus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP DIAN SEBADU tahun pelajaran 2013/2014. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswi kelas VIII yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Hasil penelitian ini pada siklus pertama poin siswa 5.2 (kurang dari 70, tidak tercapai). Hasil siklus kedua poin siswa 6.2 (kurang dari 70, tidak tercapai). Hasil siklus tiga poin siswa 7.1 (tercapai) dimana lebih dari KKM. Dapat disimpulkan, penggunaan drama pendek dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Kata Kunci: Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berbicara Siswa

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of the use of 3H strategy (Here, Hidden, and in my Head) in teaching reading comprehension to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. This research was conducted as a quasi-experimental research with the non-equivalent control group design. The sample of this research were class VIIIB as the experimental class and class VIIID as the control class. The data were collected through pre-test and post test by using the essay test consisting of twenty items and were analyzed by using Effect Size (ES) formula. The finding shows that the effect of treatment is 1.53 (> 1.00) or categorized as strong effect. It indicates that the use of 3H strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode quasi-eksperimen dengan desainnon-equivalent control group. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas VIIIB sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIIID sebagai kelas kontrol. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui pre-test dan post test dengan menggunakan tes esai yang berjumlah dua puluh soal dan data tersebut dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus ES (tingkat efektifitas). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efek dari penggunaan strategi 3H adalah 1.53 (>1.00) atau dikategorikan memiliki efek yang kuat. Hal ini menandakan bahwa penggunaan strategi 3H efektif dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca. Kata kunci: strategi 3H, pemahaman membaca

Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti hubungan antara nilai syntax dengan nilai menulis siswa semester lima program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, program regular B, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan tahun akademik 2013/2014. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan studi korelasi sebagai metode penelitiannya. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa semester lima program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, regular B, kelas A dan kelas B, yang terdiri dari 50 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini diambil dari kedua kelas A dan kelas B, terdiri dari 50 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik dokumentari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada korelasi antara nilai syntax dan nilai menulis siswa. Hal ini berdasarkan penghitungan nilai koefisien korelasi Pearson r sebesar 0.236. Berdasarkan nilai tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa Null hypothesis diterima dan Alternative hypothesis ditolak.   Kata kunci: Korelasi, Nilai Syntax, Nilai Menulis Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the correlation between the students’ syntax scores and students’ writing scores of the fifth semester students of English education study program, regular B Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Tanjungpura University in academic year 2013/2014. To achieve this goal, the researcher used correlational study as the method of this research. The population of this research was class A and class B of the fifth semester students of English education study program, regular B, that consist of 50 students. The sample of this research was taken from both class A and class B, consist of 50 students. The data of this research were collected by using documentary technique. The finding of this research showed that there is no correlation between students’ syntax scores and students’ writing scores. It is based on the calculation score of Pearson r correlation coefficient that is 0.236. Based on the score, the reseacher concluded that the Null hypothesis was accepted and Alternative hypothesis was rejected.   Keywords: Corelation, Syntax Scores, Writing Scores

Abstract

Abstract: This research focused on teaching descriptive text writing through photograph as a media and guided question as a technique. Based on the writer’s interview to the English teacher of tenth grade students in SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak, most of students had difficulties in writing descriptive text. The form of this research is pre-experimental study. The data had been collected by using measurement technique. The tool of data collecting was written test. The sample of this research was 30 students from Class XF. The result of this research showed that the use of photograph as a media and guided question as a technique in teaching descriptive text writing improved students’ writing ability. Students’ pre-test mean score is 54.66 and students’ post-test mean score is 76.66. Meanwhile, the effect of treatment (ES) was 1.95. Based on the result (ES > 0, 8), it was categorized as highly effective. In conclusion, the use of photograph as a media guided questions as a technique in teaching descriptive text writing to the tenth grade students of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012 is highly effective.   Keywords: descriptive text writing, photograph, guided question   Abstrak: Penelitian ini terfokus kepada pengajaran menulis teks deskriptif dengan foto sebagai media dan pertanyaan panduan sebagai teknik. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara penulis dengan guru Bahasa Inggris kelas 10 di SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak, kebanyakan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 54.66 dan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa adalah 76.66. sementara itu, efek dari treatment adalah 1.95. Berdasarkan hasil (ES > 0, 8), dapat dikategorikan sangat efektif.
