Abstract

Anemia is a condition where the concentration of red blood cells that carry oxygen is inadequate. Iron deficiency is considered the most common cause of anemia. This study aims to analyze the impact of educational video media on knowledge about anemia and compliance with iron supplement intake among female students at SMA Taman Madya 5. The research method used was a quasi-experimental pre-post test with a control group design. The sample consisted of 11th-grade students at SMA Taman Madya 5, divided into two groups, each containing 18 students in the treatment and control groups, selected through purposive sampling. Analysis using the Wilcoxon and McNemar tests showed a significant difference in knowledge (p-value = 0.014) and compliance (p-value = 0.016) before and after the intervention with educational video media. The Mann-Whitney test analysis showed no significant difference in average knowledge (p-value = 0.067) before and after the intervention with pamphlet media. In conclusion, there was no difference in the average knowledge about anemia and compliance with iron supplement intake between the two groups. However, there was a higher increase in knowledge and compliance scores in the intervention group that used educational video media compared to the control group with pamphlet media.

Abstract

Background. Coffee is a drink that the Indonesian people have long favored. Coffee can affect blood pressure because polyphenols and potassium lower blood pressure, while caffeine increases blood pressure. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that by 2025, 1.5 billion people in the world will suffer from hypertension per year. Blood pressure in adolescents who experience hypertension can have a higher risk of morbidity and mortality, not only that the more severe hypertension experienced in adolescents can lead to a fairly severe risk of complications such as heart attack, stroke, and coronary artery disease. Objective. This study aims to provide broad insights related to nutrition and hopes that our education can at least change the mindset of adolescents regarding the importance of frequent coffee consumption without clear reasons. Methods. This study used the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test method. Settings. This nutrition education was conducted at SMK Harapan Massa, Beji, Depok. On January 25, 2024. Design. Using Descriptive Research type. Results. Based on Wilcoxon analysis, 45 students experienced a decrease in scores, 3 students experienced an increase and 16 students had similar scores in the post-test and pre-test. Conclusion. there is an influence on the results of students' understanding before exposure to the material (Post-test) and after exposure (Pre-test).

Abstract

Malnutrition has been increasingly linked to imbalances in the composition of gut microbiota. Disruptions in the microbiota can impair nutrient absorption, promote inflammation, and affect immune function, contributing to the development and persistence of malnutrition. Therefore, food intake that can maintain gut microbiota, such as tempeh and dates, is required. The purpose of this study was to characterize the nutrient content of tempeh and date seed flour. This study used an experimental design conducted from August to October 2024. The samples included tempeh and date seed flours boiled for 10 (A1) and 20 min (A2). The flour was processed using PRTPP BRIN. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test and a post-hoc Duncan test. The results showed a significant difference in the nutritional content of tempeh and date seed flours (p<0,01). Tempeh flour contained 48,11% protein. In contrast, date seed flour had a high dietary fiber content of 82,13% for A1 and 77,59% for A2. In conclusion, both flours have their own nutritional content, namely as a source of protein (tempeh flour) fiber (date seed flour). These findings suggest that tempeh and date seed flour have potential as complementary foods to support the gut microbiota and improve nutritional intake in malnourished individuals.

Abstract

Fruit and vegetable consumption in Indonesia still does not meet the recommended levels. Low intake of vegetables and fruits poses a risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. Adolescence is a critical period for instilling healthy behaviors before transitioning into adulthood. The aim of this study is to analyze the factors influencing vegetable and fruit consumption among adolescents in rural and urban areas of Jakarta. The study used a cross-sectional design conducted in urban and semi-rural areas of Jakarta with a two-stage cluster sampling technique. Data related to knowledge, attitudes, preferences, self-efficacy, social, economic, and environmental factors, as well as family and peer behavior, were collected using questionnaires. Data on vegetable and fruit intake were collected using the SQ-FFQ. The data were analyzed using chi-square and logistic regression analysis with α < 5%. The determinants of vegetable and fruit consumption among adolescents in rural areas were parental influence and peer influence, while in urban areas, the determinants were parental influence and vegetable preferences. A tailored approach based on environmental and social characteristics is needed to promote healthy eating behaviors among adolescents.

Abstract

One type of food that is widely consumed by adolescents is packaged food. In Indonesia, the prevalence of adolescents aged 16-18 years with overnutrition status reached 13.5%. One striking phenomenon is the increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF), which are commonly found in the daily diet of adolescents. These products include items such as chips, candy, biscuits, bread, cereals, nuggets, sausages, instant noodles, sweetened drinks, and many more. The consumption of these foods has raised concerns due to their potential health risks, including the risk of overnutrition, obesity, and other related diseases. As adolescents are at a critical stage of growth and development, it is essential to address the issue of UPF consumption and its impact on their health. Efforts to combat this issue require educational interventions that inform adolescents about the dangers and long-term effects of consuming UPF. This includes counseling on the importance of selecting healthier food options. The aim of this extension program is to evaluate the effectiveness of education on UPF consumption through counseling sessions at SMAN 37 Jakarta. The educational program used an interactive technology-based learning approach combined with visual media, offering a digital learning experience that engages students effectively. Based on the results of the extension activities conducted at SMAN 37 Jakarta, it can be concluded that the educational intervention successfully improved students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding healthy food consumption. The results from the pre-test and post-test revealed a significant increase in students' understanding of the harmful effects of UPF consumption and the importance of making healthier food choices.

Abstract

Abstract

The incidence of overweight among teenagers aged 16–18 years in Indonesia increased from 1,4% in 2010 to 7,3% in 2015, with 5,7% overweight and 1,6% obese. This highlighted the growing concern of nutritional difficulties within this age group. Examining the effects of monopoly nutrition media and films on adolescent knowledge, attitudes, and fruit and vegetable intake at SMAN 1 Bojonggede was the primary goal of this project. A quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group was used in the investigation. Thirty undergraduates participated in the study, with participants selected using stratified random selection methods. And then splitted into two groups: one to get nutrition monopoly media as an intervention and another to have video shown as a control. We took a pretest and a posttest to gauge participants’ knowledge and attitudes over the course of two weeks. The SQ-FFQ was used to collect baseline data on participants’ intake one week before the intervention and again one week after it. In one set of analyses, the Wilcoxon Test and Paired Sample T-Test were used, whereas in another set, the Mann Whitney test and Independent Sample T-Test were employed. A statistical analysis reveals that the intervention group’s knowledge is significantly different from the control group’s (p-value=0,003) and that the intervention group’s attitude is significantly different from the control group’s (p-value=0,000). Consumption of calories, carbohydrates, and fiber doesn't change significantly (p-valur >0,05).

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem affecting child growth and remains a challenge in East Jakarta, particularly in Pondok Kopi and Klender. This program aimed to improve the nutritional status of stunted children through family-based nutrition education and assistance. Activities were conducted from September to November 2023 in the Duren Sawit Public Health Center area. Interventions included nutrition education, monitoring of weight and height, dietary intake recording, and home environment observation. Results showed improved maternal knowledge about food variety and nutritional status improvements in some children. Approximately 20–25% showed progress in weight-for-age, height-for-age, and weight-for-height indicators. Despite fluctuations, the interventions had a positive impact on child growth. Environmental factors also influenced nutrition, so sanitation education was provided. The program demonstrated that family-based education and assistance can help reduce stunting, though continued and personalized interventions are still needed.
