Abstract

Background: Enteral nutrition is nutrition used to fulfill the needs of nutrition entirely and as the supplement for malnutrition patient. In a certain condition of a patient, this nutrition is usually given in the form of liquid. Local material foods such as tempeh, rice, mung bean, and ganyong have adequate nutrition, therefore they are suitable for being used as main raw materials in the making of enteral nutrition. Objective: To know the influence of feeding enteral nutrition formulated with local food material toward malnutrition white rats (Rattus norvegicus) of which the parameters are iron (Fe), hemoglobin (Hb) level and weight.Method: This research used Completely Random Design (CRD). Twenty-seven of malnutrition male white rats were divided into 3 groups of treatment with 9 repetitions for each group of the treatment. Group A was given enteral nutrition diet of formula A (tempeh, rice, and mung bean as the main raw material), group B was given enteral nutrition diet of formula B (tempeh, rice, mung bean, and ganyong as the main raw material), and group C (as the positive control) was given commercial enteral nutrition. The daily giving of enteral nutrition is 20 g/day during 30 days. The analysis of Fe and Hb level and the measurement of weight firstly were done before the treatment is given. The next measurement was conducted in 15th day and 31st day. Statistical analysis used ANOVA test dan DMRT of significance 5%.Results: The result showed that the treatment of the enteral nutrition feeding of formula B was more optimal than formula A in terms of the way to increase the level of Hb and Fe. Those two components will give positive effect toward the increasing of the weight of malnutrition white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Conclusion: The enteral nutrition of formula B is more proper to be developed as the main material of making enteral food in order to treat the malnutrition.

Abstract

Malnutrition in hospitalized patients is a global problem with an increasing prevalence. To date, there is no universally accepted consensus for diagnosing malnutrition. Comparative studies between malnutrition criteria according to GLIM and the gold standard, namely Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) have not been widely carried out in Indonesia. This study aims to compare the validity of the GLIM criteria against the SGA. The study design was cross-sectional with the subject of hospitalized internal medicine patients aged 18-45 years (n=108). The assessment was conducted by comparing prevalence, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), the area under the curve (AUC), positive likelihood ratio (LR+), and negative likelihood ratio (LR-) GLIM criteria against SGA. The results obtained in this study were 57.4 percent women, 60.2 percent late adulthood, 54.6 percent high school graduates, 34.3 percent private employees, and 68.5 percent have income less than minimum wage. The prevalence of malnutrition based on GLIM criteria and SGA was 75 percent and 70.4 percent, respectively. The GLIM criteria have good validity (sensitivity of 98.7%, specificity 81.3%, PPV 92.5%, NPV 96.2%, AUC value 0,9, LR+ 5.28 and a LR- 0.016). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the GLIM criteria have good validity, so they can be recommended as diagnostic tools to determine malnutrition status in hospital nutrition services

Abstract

Background: Body image is related to adolescent food preferences, which determine their nutritional status. Peri-urban areas might have different adolescents' snacking habits, strict diets, nutritional status, and body image. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the association between adolescents' snacking habits, implementation of a strict diet, and nutritional status on their body image. Methods: This study used a mix-method, a combination of the quantitative and qualitative survey with a cross-sectional design. A total of 39 adolescents aged 15-18 who live in the peri-urban areas of Depok and Bogor were consecutively selected. The study was conducted in January 2022. Quantitative data include respondents' characteristics, body weight and height, snacking habits, and body image. Qualitative data collected were types of snacks, their reasons for buying snacks, and perceptions of ideal weight. Results: The nutritional status of the respondents was underweighted (5%), normal (92%), and overweight (3%), with snacking frequency 4-7 times/week (59%) with a weekly snacking expenditure of IDR 15,000 – 30,000 (49 %). As many as 23% of respondents performed a strict diet and perceived having a thin (21%) and fat (23%) body image. Adolescents with normal nutritional status were perceived as having fat (20.5%) and thin (15.4%) body image (p: 0,0215). There was also a relationship between diet (p: 0.0084) and weekly snacking expenditure (p: 0.0152) with body image, and there was no relationship between snacking frequency (p: 0.3123) and daily meal frequency (p-value=0.3972) with body image.  Conclusions: A wrong perception of body image from actual nutritional status can affect snacking habits and the implementation of a strict diet among adolescents.
