Abstract

Students are one group of individuals who are in adolescent development. Adolescence is the stage of human development between childhood and adulthood. Growth and development are also felt in adolescence, including cognitive, personality, social, and physical development. Adolescence is the next generation of the nation's struggle and has a vital role in the nation's survival. Thus, various skills are needed in adolescents to face the development and challenges that lie ahead. One of the things that can be done is to provide debriefing related to essential life skills. Debriefing is done through training activities to increase students' knowledge of essential life skills. The participants of this activity were 27 students of SMAN 2 Padang Panjang. Training activities are packaged through applicative, interactive, and simple games that illustrate essential life skills—measurement of knowledge in students using an open-ended questionnaire that refers to essential life skills. After receiving training, we observed an increase in grades/scores in students, which was measured through a pre- and post-training assessment of their understanding and application of the essential life skills.

Abstract

Mothers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in middle childhood are confronted with complex parenting challenges due to limitations in their children’s socio- emotional abilities, particularly emotional dysregulation. This study aims to describe parental assistance with child emotion regulation among mothers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in middle childhood. This study employed a quantitative method with a descriptive design involving 107 mothers of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in middle childhood in East Jakarta. Based on descriptive statistical analysis, the findings showed that 64.5% of mothers were categorized as predominantly using adaptive strategies, while 35.5% were categorized as predominantly using maladaptive strategies. However, when strategies were analyzed individually, distraction, which is classified as a maladaptive strategy, had the highest mean score, whereas expressive suppression, also categorized as maladaptive, had the lowest mean score. The implications of this study highlight the importance of psychoeducation for parents to strengthen adaptive parenting strategies in supporting the emotion regulation of children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to assess the level of parental social support and to provide psychoeducation to parents and guardians of ninth-grade students at Madinah Al Fatih Gadur Islamic Junior High School, with the goal of enhancing their understanding of how to support their children's education and career planning. The program is implemented through face-to-face psychoeducational sessions, followed by small group discussions facilitated by a psychologist, involving a total of 49 parents and guardians. Data are collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire measuring four dimensions of social support: emotional, appraisal, instrumental, and informational support. Descriptive analysis reveals that 71.43% of respondents are categorized as having a moderate level of social support, while 14.29% fall into both the high and low categories. Emotional support demonstrates the highest mean score (M = 22.16), whereas instrumental support shows the lowest (M = 5.86), indicating that emotional support is more dominant than tangible assistance. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening parental roles in supporting children's educational achievement and facilitating early career planning through the provision of optimal social support.
