Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine the influence of Non-Performing Financing (NPF) and the Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) on Return on Assets (ROA), while also assessing the moderating role of Murabahah financing in these relationships within Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia during 2018–2022. Method – The research uses a quantitative method supported by library research, involving moderated regression analysis with classical assumption tests, model feasibility tests, and hypothesis testing. The sample includes 10 Islamic banks selected through purposive sampling from a population of 17 registered with the Financial Services Authority. Findings – The findings reveal that NPF does not significantly affect ROA, while FDR negatively affects ROA. Murabahah financing moderates both the NPF–ROA and FDR–ROA relationships. Theoretically, this research contributes to Islamic banking performance literature, especially regarding the role of specific financing instruments. Implications – Practically, it implies that Islamic banks should diversify their financing portfolios, expand funding sources, and strengthen risk management to enhance profitability. Murabahah financing can help reduce credit risk, though it may elevate liquidity risk, requiring careful portfolio and liquidity planning

Abstract

The global economy is increasingly marked by volatility, uncertainty, and disruption, compelling organizations to adopt business agility as a means of survival and competitiveness. Conventional agility emphasizes speed, responsiveness, and innovation, yet often lacks the ethical foundation required for long-term sustainability. In contrast, Islamic economic thought, guided by Maqasid al-Shariah—the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth—prioritizes justice, fairness, and social responsibility in economic activities. This study analyzes how the principles of Maqasid can be aligned with business agility to form an ethically grounded and adaptive business model. Employing a qualitative research design with a library research approach, the study synthesizes insights from existing literature on agility, Islamic economics, and Maqasid through thematic content analysis. The findings indicate that while agility strengthens resilience and competitiveness, it requires Maqasid as a moral compass to ensure value-driven adaptability. The integration of agility and Maqasid creates a synergy that enables Islamic enterprises not only to withstand global turbulence but also to differentiate themselves as ethical, sustainable, and competitive actors in the global market. This research therefore proposes a Shariah-compliant agility model that balances responsiveness with ethical accountability, offering theoretical contributions to academic discourse and practical implications for Islamic financial institutions, halal industries, and Shariah-based SMEs. The study also highlights the role of policymakers in developing supportive frameworks that foster innovation while safeguarding Shariah compliance. Overall, the study underscores that agility guided by Maqasid is not merely a survival strategy but a pathway to global leadership in ethical and sustainable business practices.

Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive comparative legal analysis of halal regulatory regimes within the broader context of ethical consumerism and global trade liberalization. Using a qualitative library research approach, the study examines diverse national and regional regulatory models—including Malaysia’s centralized system, Indonesia’s hybrid framework, and decentralized certification practices in GCC and Western jurisdictions. The findings indicate that divergent legal philosophies, inconsistent certification processes, and fragmented enforcement mechanisms create significant barriers to mutual recognition and international market integration. Ethical consumerism intensifies demands for transparency, authenticity, and integrity, yet weak oversight in several regions perpetuates fraud, mislabeling, and supply chain vulnerabilities. Trade liberalization further complicates the landscape, as variations in halal standards often function as technical barriers to trade, disproportionately affecting SMEs. The study highlights the growing relevance of blockchain, AI, and digital traceability as potential solutions to enhance integrity, harmonize standards, and improve global halal governance. Ultimately, the analysis underscores that achieving balance between ethical consumer protection and liberalized trade requires collaborative regulatory reforms, robust oversight, and technologically supported verification systems capable of fostering trust and facilitating global market access.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the ethical dimensions of halal supply chain management through the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI). In the context of globalization and the rising demand for halal products, understanding how technology can support not only operational efficiency but also adherence to Islamic principles and ethics is crucial. The research examines the integration of AI technology in each phase of the halal supply chain, from the procurement of raw materials to the distribution of final products. Through literature analysis and case studies, the research identifies the ethical challenges faced at each stage, including transparency, accountability, and fairness in transactions. Furthermore, the study offers recommendations for developing ethical guidelines that can guide effective and responsible halal supply chain management practices. Findings suggest that with the appropriate application of AI, companies can enhance consumer integrity and trust while strengthening their position in the rapidly growing halal market. This research contributes to the existing literature on halal supply chain management and emphasizes the importance of incorporating ethical considerations in the digital era.
