Abstract

Community service activities are the application of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education through across-scientific approach to solve problems at certain times and areas. This community service activitycarriesthetheme"GrowingCreativityinEncouragingSocio-EconomicLifeintheVillage".Community service activities are carried out for one month from January 12 to February 11, 2022 atCemplangVillage, Ciomas District, SerangRegency. The methodusedforcommunity serviceactivities is a method of counseling or socialization education directly to the community and localvillage officials. To find out the community's response to the program that has been carried out, asurvey was carried out using a Likert scale questionnaire on public perceptions. The four maincommunity service work programs have been well implemented and received positive responses fromthe community. The work programs include socializing the formation of small and medium business, socializing the application of clean and healthy living, reading gardens (Lentera Literasi), andteaching activities in schools.

Abstract

Abstract

Students often face difficulties in learning chemical elements due to the large number of concepts that require memorization and limited contextual engagement. At the same time, chemical elements play a vital role in addressing environmental issues, making their understanding essential for advancing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This study aimed to develop an Android-based Chemistry Mobile Learning (CML) application in the form of an educational game to promote ESD-oriented chemistry learning. The development followed the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate). The CML application was validated by six expert reviewers, resulting in Aiken’s V scores of 0.91 and 0.93, indicating a high level of validity. Student feedback showed that 91% rated the learning experience as “Very Good.” The results suggest that the developed CML tool is both feasible and practical for classroom implementation. It enhances student engagement, supports meaningful learning, and fosters sustainability-oriented thinking in chemistry education.

Abstract

Socio Scientific Issues (SSI) is an approach that can be used to stimulate students' critical thinking in science learning, especially chemistry learning. This approach can be integrated in the students' worksheet to help students to think critically and achieve learning objectives. The purpose of this study was to determine the responses of chemistry teachers and students of twelve grade secondary school based on the needs analysis of the development of Socio Scientific Issues on Acid-Base topic. The research method used was a survey method using a questionnaire research instrument. This research instrument is filled in through a google form containing several questions or written statements that must be answered by the respondent. The subject of the research were chemistry teachers and XII grade high school students. The results showed that most teachers and students were not familiar with the socio-scientific issue approach in chemistry learning. However, most teachers and students agree to the development of students' worksheet on Acid-Base topic that supports to stimulate critical thinking skills and meaningful chemistry learning.

Abstract

Rapid industrial growth in various regions of Indonesia has contributed significantly to the national economy. Pollution of air, water, and soil has become a critical concern when industrial activities are not managed in accordance with sustainability principles. This study aims to analyze the impact of emission exposure and operational activities of the chemical industry on public health, environmental conditions, and compliance with environmental regulations. A mixed-method approach was applied, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses. Quantitative data were obtained through air quality measurements and analyzed using linear regression and correlation techniques, while qualitative data explored regulatory compliance in greater depth. The findings reveal a positive correlation between increased emission exposure and higher incidences of respiratory disorders within the community. Environmental degradation was also evident, particularly in declining air quality and damage to surrounding vegetation. Although industrial practices generally comply with local environmental regulations, cases of Acute Respiratory Infections continue to rise. This indicates that regulatory compliance alone is insufficient to mitigate health risks. Therefore, stricter emission monitoring, improved transparency in environmental reporting, and enhanced community involvement are essential to support more sustainable and responsive industrial policies.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct laboratory experiments designed to improve students' skills and understanding of environmental remediation of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) extraction from red mud, using Eutectic Ionic Liquids (EILs). The research subjects consisted of 15 chemistry education students in Bandung City. The method is pre-experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. With the first research step, students filled in pre-test questions before doing the practicum, then students were directed to carry out laboratory experiments by starting the preparation of drying and smoothing red mud. Furthermore, the preparation of making Betain-Levulinic Acid EILs and extracting red mud using EILs based on predetermined work procedures. And finally, students are asked to write down the results of the practicum on the Practicum Worksheet and students are asked to fill out a post-test. Based on the results of the study found differences in the ability and understanding of student laboratory experiments seen from the pre-test and post-test assessment scores there is a significant difference that it can be stated to have improved learning. The laboratory experiment learning method can provide field practice experience for chemistry education students in supporting the achievement of SDGs point 15, namely terrestrial ecosystems that focus on restoring land degradation.
