Abstract

One solution to solve pest problems in shallot cultivation is to apply the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). An example of IPM that can be used is the use of light traps and sex pheromone traps, where both traps have been proven to be able to control the population of S. exigua Hubner in shallot plants. This study used RAK (Randomized Group Design) with 1 factor, namely the type of trap. The observation variables observed were the number of trapped imago, the number of egg clusters, the intensity of the attack, and production yield. Based on the results showed that S. exigua Hubner imago was more trapped in the lamp trap which amounted to 197.67 heads than the sex pheromone trap which only amounted to 14.01 heads. The number of egg groups in the sex pheromone trap plot was 0.28 and in the light trap plot was 0.18. The larval population in the sex pheromone trap plot was higher at 3.58 individuals than in the lamp trap plot at 3.16 individuals. The intensity of S. exigua infestation in the light trap plots was lower at 126.66 while in the sex pheromone trap plots, it was 155. The use of light traps to control the S. exigua population also provides higher production and profit than using sex pheromone traps.

Abstract

Chicory is one of the horticultural crops that is widely cultivated in Indonesia. Plutella xylostella are the main pests of the chicory plant. The attack damaged P. xylostella by 58-100%. The intensive use of chemical pesticides in pest control can use damage the environment and humans. Utilization of green betel leaves extract and liquid smoke in an alternative control of P.xylostella. This study aims to determine the ability of green betel leaf extract and liquid smoke to P. xylostella on the laboratory scale. The study was conducted with 7 treatments, namely, control = 0%, green betel leaf concentrations of J1 = 10%, J2 = 15%, J3 = 15%, and liquid smoke concentrations of J4 = 10%, J5 = 15%, and J6 = 20%, and repeated 4 times. The results showed that the application of green betel leaf extract and liquid smoke at a concentration of 20% caused mortality of P. xylostella of 87.5% and 100%. This is because green betel leaves contain tannins and alkaloid compounds that inhibit cell and nerve metabolism in the larvae P. xylostella which occurs continuously and causes death. Liquid smoke contains phenolic compounds that cause respiratory problems in the larvae of P. xylostella and if swallowed can cause systemic poisoning. Green leaf extract with a concentration of 3.26% and liquid smoke with a concentration of 0.34% effectively killed 50% of the larvae P. xylostella.

Abstract

Kata Kunci :  kopi organik;  penggerek buah kopi;  beauveria bassiana; pupuk organik;  manajemen kelompok tani AbstractPace Village, Silo District, Jember Regency, is one of the main coffee producing areas in Indonesia. However, in 2023 there was a significant decline in coffee productivity due to attacks by the Coffee Berry Borer (PBKo) pest and the high price of subsidized fertilizers. To overcome this challenge, a student-based community service program was carried out that focused on introducing organic farming methods. This program includes socialization, training, and mentoring for the "Abadi" and "Taman Tirto" farmer groups to implement integrated organic coffee cultivation. The training includes making organic coffee seeds, organic fertilizers from local materials, and biological pest control using Beauveria bassiana and ant nests. The results of the activity showed an increase in productivity from 5.47 quintals per hectare to 6.0 quintals per hectare in the "Abadi" group and 6.1 quintals per hectare in the "Taman Tirto" group. In addition, the PBKo attack was successfully controlled with a decrease in damage from 60% to 36% and 34%. This program also improves the management of farmer groups through the establishment of an organic input management body and organic farming certification, which contributes to increasing the sustainability and economic value of coffee farmers in Pace Village. Keywords: organic coffee; coffee berry borer; beauveria bassiana; organic fertilizer; farmer group management

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the appropriate and effective application of the L. lecanii fungus and C. odorata L. leaf extract in increasing the mortality of A. gossypii. The study was divided into two stages. The first stage was in vitro test of L. lecanii synergism plus C. odorata L. leaf extract in PDA media with four treatments, namely LK0= L. lecanii 107 conidia.mL-1 plus 0% C. odorata L. leaf extract, LK1= L. lecanii 107 conidia.mL-1 plus 10% C. odorata L. leaf extract, LK2= L. lecanii 107 conidia.mL-1 plus 25% C. odorata L. leaf extract; LK3= L. lecanii 107 conidia.mL-1 plus 40% C. odorata L. leaf extract. The second stage was the toxicity test of the application of L. lecanii suspension and C. odorata L. leaf extract on mortality of A. gossypii. The toxicity test was based on the results of the synergism test, where the addition of C. odorata L. leaf extract to L. lecanii growing media showed incompatible results. Therefore, the toxicity test was carried out separately with five treatments, namely H0= Control (aqua dest); H1= Conidia suspension L. lecanii 107 conidia mL-1; H2= 10% C. odorata leaf extract; H3= 25% leaf extract of C. odorata; H4= 40% C. odorata leaf extract. The results showed that the compatibility test of L. lecanii with leaf extract of C. odorata L. was incompatible and classified as toxic. The addition of C. odorata L. leaf extract in concentrations of 10%, 25%, and 40% could significantly inhibit colony growth, sporulation, and conidia viability of L. lecanii, with a higher level of inhibition as the concentration of C. odorata L. leaf extract, was added. The toxicity test of a separate application of C. odorata L. leaf extract and L. lecanii suspension had a significant effect on mortality of 3rd instar nymph A. gossypii, with the highest mean mortality found in a single application of 40% C. odorata L. leaf extract with an average mortality of 100% at 96 HAA(Hours After Application) observations. Keywords: A. gossypii, C. odorata L.  leaf extract, L. lecanii, synergism.
