Abstract

Setiap perlakuan konsentrasi sirih hutan diberikan senyawa surfaktan dietanolamida (DEA) sebesar 0,2%.

Abstract

Andongsari Village Ambulu District is located in the southern part of Jember, Andongsari village itself is a target village for UNEJ LP2M KKN which is under development into a Prosperous Tourism and Entrepreneurial Village. The majority of people in Andongsari Village work as farmers and agricultural laborers and for general commodities there are rice, corn, cabbage, cauliflower, tobacco and for the main commodity is large chili. Based on the observations of our team, farmers there have been well coordinated through active farmer groups, not only male farmer groups there are also female farmer groups that are also equally active. In addition, farmers there have also known an integrated pest management system by combining chemical, mechanical and biological control systems along with implementing a natural enemy conservation system by planting refugia plants, this is shown by the development of many refugia in each cultivated land. Further search results, the attack of plant disturbing organisms, especially pests in large chili plantations is very high even though the application of synthetic pesticides is high. Excessive application of synthetic pesticides is suspected to be one of the main factors of pest resistance and at the same time the malfunction of refugia technology that has been applied in the field. On the other hand, the application of synthetic pesticides becomes one of the main and largest expenses of large chili production costs. Therefore, to be able to solve these problems, the solutions offered are the first to provide insight into how to identify pests in large peppers and their forms of prevention, the second optimization and arrangement of refugia plant design in cultivated land, the third training and assistance in propagation and conservation of natural enemies (useful insects) as a form of correlation with the refugia system and the last to support the integrated pest management system that has been There is training and assistance in making insecticides and vegetable functions by utilizing vegetable sources from the environment in Andongsari village. So that the farmer group in Andongsari village is able to independently produce refugia, mass multiply natural enemies and produce organic pesticides sustainably and can become an economic business unit for these farmer groups.

Abstract

Kalibaru Wetan Village, located in Kalibaru Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency, has potential natural wealth and superior agriculture. The agricultural area of Kalibaru Wetan Village covers a total area of 70.75 km². One of the village's primary commodities is coffee. The problems in the coffee plantations of Kalibaru Wetan Village include (1) high population of coffee berry borer (PBKo) pests attacking the coffee plants, (2) excessive use of synthetic pesticides harmful to the environment, and (3) low diversity of beneficial insects in the coffee fields. Based on these issues, it is necessary to disseminate the effects of synthetic pesticide use and the technology of insect hotels to farmers. The purpose of this community service activity is to transfer knowledge to farmers about the harmful effects of synthetic pesticides, the importance of insect diversity, and the use of insect hotel technology. The proposed solution is to implement insect hotel technology. The methods used in this community service activity include insect inventory, socialization, training on making and installing insect hotels, and program monitoring and evaluation. The results of the community service showed an increase in the diversity of insects in the coffee fields, with the number of beneficial insects such as honey bees and black ants increasing from 15 to 45 and from 20 to 60, respectively. Additionally, the use of synthetic pesticides by farmers significantly decreased from 50 liters per month to 15 liters per month. This program also successfully enhanced farmers' knowledge and skills in sustainable and environmentally friendly pest management.

Abstract

This study evaluated nano-insecticides formulated from essential oils of mint (Mentha piperita), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), basil (Ocimum basilicum), and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus sp.) for controlling Sitophilus oryzae, a major pest of stored rice. Essential oils were extracted using hydrodistillation, and nanoemulsions were prepared via a low-energy method. Efficacy tests conducted at concentrations of 1–5% showed that mint and lemongrass nano-insecticides were the most effective, achieving 100% mortality at 5% concentration within 168 hours and exhibiting superior repellency (mint oil reached 100% repellency at 5%). At 5% concentration, mint oil caused 25% mortality after 24 hours, increasing to 86% by 96 hours and reaching 100% by 120 hours, while lemongrass oil induced 10% mortality at 24 hours, 76% by 96 hours, and 100% by 144 hours. Their high efficacy is attributed to bioactive compounds such as menthol and citral, which disrupt the pest’s physiological processes. In contrast, eucalyptus and basil oils demonstrated comparatively lower mortality and repellency. These results highlight the potential of mint and lemongrass nano-insecticides as eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic pesticides and provide a sustainable option for integrated pest management in stored rice.

Abstract

Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merrill) is one of the food crop commodities in Indonesia. Soybean crop productivity decreased due to one of them being attack of B. tabaci Genn. One of the ways for controlling B. tabaci Genn. pests in soybean cultivation is by using a barrier. Barrier is an integrated pest management (IPM) which is based on ecological balance in nature. Pests are prevented from coming and attacking crops by using various forms of barriers that can slow down the movement of pests. The use of barriers can be a useful tool to reduce the development of B. tabaci Genn. on planting. This study was conducted to determine the effect of using a barrier on the population and attack of B. tabaci Genn. The barriers used in this study are plastic barriers, organdy barriers, sunflower barriers, and corn plant barriers. The study used a randomized block design with 5 treatments, namely P1 = control, P2 = organdy barrier, P3 = sunflower barrier, P4 = corn plant barrier and P5 = plastic barrier. The data obtained were then analyzed using ANOVA variance and further tested using the DMRT test at 5% level. The observed variables were population and attack intensity on B. tabaci Genn. in soybean planting areas, visits by other pests and soybean yields.

Abstract

Cosmos sulphureus and Tagetes erecta are habitats for insects because they are able to provide the food needed by insects in the form of nectar, while the aromatic plants Apium graveolens and Ocimum bassilicum contain essential oils which act as pest repellents. Therefore, these plants can be used as a method of pest control by intercropping with the main crop. This study aims to determine the extent to which the influence of aromatic and flowering plants in controlling Thrips sp. on red chilies. The research was carried out using a randomized block design (RBD) method with one factor studied, namely the effect of aromatic and flowering plants on Thrips sp. pest control on red chili plants and the treatment combination consisted of, P0 = control (Capsicum annum L. without treatment), P1 = (Capsicum annum L. + Apium graveolens), P2 = (Capsicum annum L. + Ocimum bassilicum), P3 = (Capsicum annum L. + Cosmos sulphureus), P4 = (Capsicum annum L. + Tagetes erecta). Analysis of the research data used variance (ANOVA) and if there was a significant difference it was further tested using the LSD (Lessest Significant Difference) level of 5%. The results of this study indicate that the treatment of aromatic Apium graveolens, Ocimum bassilicum, Cosmos sulphurous and Tagetes erecta flowering plants is quite effective in controlling population numbers of Thrips sp. and intensity of attack by Thrips sp. on red chili plants.

Abstract

Rowosari Village, Sumberjambe Subdistrict, is one of the fostered villages of the University of Jember, where the majority of the population works as coffee farmers. However, the farmers face significant challenges in coffee cultivation due to attacks by coffee berry borer (CBB) (Hypothenemus hampei), with an infestation intensity reaching 60-67%, and nutrient deficiencies caused by the high price of fertilizers. This community empowerment program aims to address these issues through environmentally friendly pest control and soil quality improvement approaches. The solutions implemented include the application of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana formulation in the medium, which has been proven to reduce pest populations by up to 50%, and the use of solid organic fertilizer containing nitrogen (15%), phosphorus (0.8%), and potassium (12%). The results of this program show an increase in coffee production by 10.4% following the application of Beauveria bassiana and organic fertilizer. Farmers’ perceptions were also very positive, with a score of 4.5 out of 5 for ease of application and 4.2 for willingness to continue using the technology. Through the utilization of Beauveria bassiana and organic fertilizer in Rowosari Village, the empowerment program is expected to increase coffee productivity, improve soil conditions, and strengthen the resilience of farmers in facing pest and nutrient deficiency challenges sustainably.
