Abstract

AbstractThe objective of the study is to know the small groups discussion can improve the students’ speaking ability. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the writer designed an experimental method using pre-test and post- test. The population of this study was the eighth year students of Junior High School of SMPN 2 Saluputti. The sample of this study was the eight year students in academic year 2015/2016. The number of the students was 16 students. There were four meetings during the experiment. Before the experiment was conducted, the students were given a pre-test. At the end of the experiment, the students were given a post- test. The result of this study revealed that, the post- test scores were better than the pre-test scores. It could be seen by comparing their means. The mean score of the pre-test was 22.8, while the mean of the post test was 78.2. It shows that the mean score of the post test is greater than the pre test. The difference between pre test and post test was 55.3. In line with the result, the writer concludes that the Small Groups Discussion strategy is one of the effective strategies as to increase the activity and student learning outcomes in speaking subject. In teaching and learning activities teachers are expected to make cooperative learning as an alternative type of Small Groups Discussion in speaking subject to increase the activity and student learning outcomes, especially when teaching speaking to eighth year students of junior high school. AbstrakTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah Diskusi Kelompok Kecil dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian ini, penulis merancang metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 2 Saluputti. Sampel penelitian ini adalah delapan tahun siswa pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Jumlah siswa adalah 16 siswa. Ada empat pertemuan selama percobaan. Sebelum percobaan dilakukan, siswa diberi pre-test. Pada akhir percobaan, siswa diberi post-tes. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai post-test lebih baik daripada nilai pre-test. Skor rata-rata pre-test adalah 22,8, sedangkan dari post test adalah 78,2. Ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata post test lebih besar daripada pre test. Perbedaan antara pre test dan post test adalah 55,3. Sejalan dengan hasilnya, penulis berkesimpulan bahwa strategi Diskusi Kelompok Kecil merupakan salah satu strategi efektif untuk meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran berbicara. Dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar guru diharapkan dapat melakukan pembelajaran kooperatif sebagai alternatif jenis Diskusi Kelompok Kecil dalam berbicara yang dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa, terutama saat mengajar berbicara kepada siswa kelas VIII SMP.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the students’ attitude toward the use of interactive classroom activities in developing the communicative competence. The researchers used descriptive method with a questionnaire to obtain data. The variable of the research was independent variable referring to the use of interactive classroom activities and dependent variable was the students’ attitude. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of the SMA Kriten Barana’ Academic year 2017/2018, which consists of 50 students since the population of this research, used random sampling. The data obtained from the questionnaire tabulated and analyzed using percentage technique. It is provided by the students’ option on all items of the questionnaire where the number of students who strongly agree and agree is greater than those disagree and strong disagree. in this research the eleventh grade students of SMA Krenten Barana’ have positive attitude towards the use of interactive classroom activities in developing their communicative competence.

Abstract

The goal of the research is to know the effect of blended learning applied in teaching vocabularies for the fourth semester students. The research used qualitative method. The subject of the research is lecturer and fourth semester students at Toraja Christian University of Indonesia. The data collected by using edmodo as a media that used in pretest and posttest and zoom application used presented. In the research has effective indicator in teaching process. After applying blended learning, the result showed raised score, it can be classified excellent is 4 percent, very good is 28 percent , and fair is 44 percent, and poor is 1 percent

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to discover models of teaching speaking practiced at IAKN Palopo, students’ perceptions of teaching models, teaching speaking models to students’ speaking achievement.The researcher employed qualitative methods for the study. The data resources for the research chosen through random sampling lectures at IAIN Palopo. The instruments for the research consist of observations, interviews in analyzing the data, the researcher employed a qualitative method.The results show that the models of teaching speaking practiced at IAKN Palopo is presentation, practice, production model (PPP) the model divided into three phases as follow: Presentation, refers to new topic and contextualizing, teaching Demonstration (cookies activities), teaching English based on classroom situation. Practice refers to learners practice the structure using accurate reproduction techniques including choral and individual repetition and cue-response drills, students did demonstration based on lecturer’s instruction and Students’ perception toward the model is good, there is positive indicator perception because almost students said, happy, lecturer as a good figure in teaching speaking, simple material.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe model teaching speaking on that applied by the lecturer at Toraja Christian university of Indonesia in teaching speaking, and to describe students’ perception toward the model in teaching speaking. The researcher employed a qualitative method for the study. The data resource for the research is lecturer from Toraja Christian University of Indonesia. Data were collected through observation, and interviews. Results show phase in teaching speaking model : create goal, course interesting and contextual topics, students’ monitoring, good management in classroom, create medias, and teaching reflection, teaching interacting model, and evaluation, interviews indicate that the student have positive perception toward the model in teaching speaking used by this lecturer in teaching speaking class.

Abstract

This research is a kind of quantitative method where the writer used experimental. The experiment was held through pre-test and post-test by written test. In this research the writer used total sampling, where all the fourth grade students as population that consist of 19 students being as sample in this research. The result of this research showed that the mean score in pre-test was 28.16 and post-test was 63.58. It showed that the mean score in post-test was higher than pre-test. It means that there was significant improvement of the student knowledge in learning action verbs by using Total Physical Response after giving treatment. The significant was a proved by the data analysis of t-test (9.073) is higher than t-table (2.100), it means that H0 is refused and H1 is accepted. The writer concluded that Total Physical Response is affective in teaching action verbs to EFL young learners at SDN 232 Inpres Dulang and the students were more attention to the teacher’s explanation than teaching action verbs without Total Physical Response.

Abstract

The native knowledge of Indonesia, including the Toraja, is slowly fading as other cultures take over. As a result, promoting learning grounded in local knowledge through Bahasa Toraja's local content is essential. Examining the prerequisites for instructors and students to understand local content in primary schools is the goal of this study. In line with that, this research aims to define the teaching standards and learn Bahasa Toraja's regional components. This is necessary to fulfill its purpose as a venue for introducing and maintaining local wisdom and to make the previously unappealing and in-demand process of learning local material engaging. This research is of the mixed method type. This mixed-method research uses a sequential explanatory approach. This research was conducted for grade IV elementary school students at SD N 1 Kepe' for the 2021/2022 school year, North Toraja. Miles and Huberman's model was used to analyze the data, consisting of three key steps: data reduction, data presentation, and findings. The study's findings indicate that to increase the quality of the local content of the Toraja language to maintain Toraja culture and local knowledge, students' and instructors' demands in learning the local content of the Toraja language must be taken into account.

Abstract

The goals of this study were to learn about students' perspectives on literature and blogs for teaching Islamic values to the millennial generation. This research was mixed-methods research. The subject of this study was the millennial generation at the Islamic State Institute Curup, especially students of the English Tadris Study Program. The instruments were questionnaires and interviews. This study included 30 students as participants. The findings of the poll reveal that most students have a favourable view of the use of the mind-mapping approach by utilising weblogs to improve Islamic writing. The implementation of the mind-mapping technique by using a weblog to improve Islamic writing makes students more active and interested in learning Islamic topics. Students also understand more about some Islamic topics that they read or upload to their web blogs. Students are interested in learning more about Islam by using this media. They read more topics about Islam and give their opinions about those in their Islamic literature web blog. It may be stated that a blog can be used as a form of social media and is effective and positive for teaching Islamic values to students.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to obtain a model in teaching speaking in Students Exchange MBKM program between PBSI Universitas Pancasakti Tegal and PBSI UKI Toraja. This research applies qualitative research. Sampling of data is students and lecturer  PBSI from the University of Pancasakti Tegal, and Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja the research use total sampling. The instrument of this research used observation, interview, and questionnaire. In data analysis, researchers used qualitative methods. The results showed model of teaching speaking in students exchange MBKM program was Illustration, Interaction, Induction (III), Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP), and Mastery Learning. From the three models obtained based on field data, the model can be constructed into Contraction, Stimulation, Explanation, Demonstration, and Assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to produce the development of a listening and speaking textbook for general communication based on laboratory language operating software viewed from the validation result of expert materials, expert design, media expert and students’ need This study uses, ADDIE consists of analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Data collection and analysis techniques used in this research and development are data generated through interviews, observation, documentation, through informant and questionaries involving respondents analyzed descriptive qualitative. Findings of the development of English language teaching materials audio – based visuals can improve students’ language skills at a very good level. This evidenced by knowing the result of preliminary pre-test students of English department at UKI Toraja before the development of the textbook of listening and speaking for general communication with score 75,04 is enough level. After teaching materials development based on language laboratory operation software, the value of language skill of English department at UKI Toraja increased with the score 88,28 was at very good level and the average percentage of the survey results on student satisfaction in using the book development shows 80.35%. Teaching listening and speaking for general and communication based on laboratory language operating software can provide convince in teaching and learning process, thus impacting the effectiveness of learning. Thus, audio-visual materials based on audio- visual can be considered for lecturers in delivery the subject metter to make it more interesting and fun.
