Abstract

Currently, development can be seen everywhere, there is a lot of land clearing by infrastructure development which can cause damage to the environment itself which can cause various environmental problems such as floods, landslides, extinction of endangered animals, lack of clean water, increasing air pollution. This research aims to determine the relationship between humans and natural resources and the environment as well as the role of humans in managing natural resources and the environment based on a philosophical perspective. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with data collection using literature study techniques using secondary data. The results and discussion show that the relationship between humans and natural resources and the environment reflects a complex interaction between needs, activities, influences, responsibilities and human awareness of the environment in which they live. So there needs to be a human role in it based on existing ethics and the two environmental ethics have differences, namely the difference in approach between ecopocentric and anthropocentric results in different priorities in managing natural resources and the environment. The ecopocentric approach emphasizes environmental preservation as the main goal, while the anthropocentric approach places more emphasis on the use of natural resources to improve human welfare.

Abstract

This paper explores the view of the responsibility of the Khalifah on earth in maintaining nature optimally. The sacralization of the universe triggers moral and religious responsibilities among Muslims to care for environmental sustainability. The environment is the place where all the activities of living things in the world take place. Environmental protection is a human job. The environment has a great influence on human life. The environment can change its function due to various factors, one of which is due to the global era. Ecological awareness is very important for people to cope with environmental changes. In addition, the deterioration of natural conditions continues, which is concerning. Ecological awareness can start with the application of environmental ethics. Environmental ethics can be addressed by changing the way we think and live as a whole rather than as individuals. There is a correlation between environmental ethics and the word of Allah SWT in Surah al-Araf verse 56, which prohibits humans from destroying the earth after Allah SWT restores it. The purpose of this study is to explain what is meant by environmental ethics and related issues. And knowing that the correlation between environmental ethics and the synthesis of the Qur'an from the 56 verses of Surah al-Araf is how the people live as the Qur'an.

Abstract

This research focuses on the balance between land use and land preservation, with a case study of land degradation in Sekaroh Village, Jrowaru District, East Lombok. Land degradation in this area is triggered by changes in land use, unsustainable agricultural practices, and a lack of effective conservation policies. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review to explore the factors influencing land degradation, the resulting socio-economic impacts, and community empowerment efforts in land rehabilitation. The findings reveal that land degradation not only threatens environmental sustainability but also reduces the welfare of local communities reliant on agriculture. Through community empowerment, as implemented in the critical forest and land rehabilitation programs in Sekaroh Village, conservation efforts can be carried out by actively involving communities in ecosystem preservation. This participatory approach is deemed effective in achieving a balance between land use for economic purposes and environmental preservation efforts. Recommendations include the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices such as agroforestry, soil conservation, and the provision of education and training to local communities. Policies supporting land conservation and economic incentives to promote environmental preservation are also considered important. Thus, a sustainable balance between land use and preservation can be achieved.

Abstract

This study discusses the management of coastal resources in the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) with a focus on current conditions, integrated management strategies, and policy recommendations. The NTB Provincial Government has issued NTB Governor Regulation Number 100 of 2023 concerning Whale Shark Management in the Saleh Bay Waters to regulate management and tourism activities in the area. However, challenges such as environmental degradation, land use conflicts, and climate change remain major obstacles. This research employs a literature review method with a normative approach and qualitative data analysis. The results indicate that effective coastal resource management requires the integration of local knowledge, community-based management practices, and sustainable management policies. Active community participation and collaboration between the government, communities, and other stakeholders are crucial to achieving harmony between economic utilization and environmental conservation. One of the coastal areas that has become a tourist destination and a coastal management program is in Labuhan Jambu Village, Sumbawa, which focuses on whale shark ecotourism. Awareness of human responsibility towards nature and the integration of science, technology, and local values are also necessary for the sustainable management of coastal resources in NTB.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis—marked by deforestation, land degradation, pollution, and climate change—is a consequence of unsustainable natural resource (NR) exploitation. Population growth and the dominance of pragmatic economic paradigms are key drivers of environmental destruction. This article examines the role of philosophy in NR management as an alternative approach that is more ethical and sustainable. Using a literature review method, this study analyzes environmental philosophical perspectives—particularly anthropocentric, biocentric, and ecocentric ethics—and their relevance in shaping policies and ecological awareness. The findings show that integrating philosophical values can foster moral awareness toward nature, strengthen justice-based environmental policies, and support holistic development approaches. The study also highlights failures in NR management due to ethical crises, such as overfishing in Indonesian waters and deforestation linked to food estate projects. Community-based management models and local wisdom—such as sasi and subak systems—are shown to be more aligned with ecocentric and sustainable principles. Therefore, a paradigm shift is needed—from an exploitative approach to a philosophical one that sees humans as part of, not rulers over, ecosystems. Integrating philosophy into NR management is not only essential for environmental preservation but also for ensuring the sustainability of future generations.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Ecology is a reciprocal relationship between organisms and their environment. This includes humans who were created by Allah, and entrusted with great responsibility as caliphs to prosper all life on earth. However, in reality, most humans do not realize that the relationship between humans and the environment is a relationship that has been determined and regulated by God. So in this study, the focus of the researcher's discussion is on how the nature of Islam views an ecological system. To facilitate this research, the researcher formulated the main problem, namely, how is the correlation between human life and the environment? And what is the nature of humans and the environment in the perspective of Islamic ecology.

Abstract

Customary forests in Bayan, North Lombok, are managed by the Wetu Telu com-munity through a value system that blends religious belief, cosmology, and local wisdom, making forest sustainability inseparable from the cultural dimension of the community that safeguards it. This study aims to map and synthesize prior scholarly findings on the conservation of Bayan's customary forest from a cultural perspective, focusing on the values underlying conservation practices, the custom-ary rules applied, the roles of various socio-cultural actors, and the challenges that emerge amid modernization. The study was conducted through a Systematic Liter-ature Review (SLR) approach, in which relevant prior publications on Wetu Telu customary forest conservation were searched, screened, and analyzed to identify recurring patterns and connecting threads across studies. The findings show that the syncretism between Islamic values and local tradition shapes a view of the for-est as sacred space, which is then institutionalized through the awig-awig custom-ary rules as a mechanism of social control over forest resource use. The effectiveness of forest conservation is further shaped by the roles of customary leaders, religious figures, families, and collaboration with village governments, although its continui-ty faces pressure from shifting values among younger generations and inconsisten-cies between customary law and national law. This culture-based conservation is shown to generate multidimensional benefits, contributing to ecological sustaina-bility, economic value, and social cohesion within the community. These findings affirm that the preservation of Bayan's customary forest should be understood as an ongoing socio-cultural process, suggesting that future environmental governance policies should position indigenous communities as primary partners rather than mere objects of regulation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the principle of balance (natural harmony) in natural resource management in the sustainable tourism sector in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The study focuses on the meaning of balance between economic, social, cultural, and environmental aspects as the basis for sustainable tourism development. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach through a systematic literature review conducted through the search and analysis of scientific literature, regional policies, and relevant empirical research results. The results show that the implementation of the principle of balance has been attempted through the development of community-based tourism, the utilization of ecological potential according to carrying capacity, and the implementation of policies and collaboration between stakeholders. However, the implementation of the principle of natural harmony still faces obstacles such as development pressures, environmental degradation, dependence on external assistance, and limited institutional capacity. In addition, this study found that community-based strategies and environmental technologies, including the use of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), have the potential to strengthen sustainable tourism governance and increase the effectiveness of natural resource monitoring. This research provides a conceptual contribution to strengthening adaptive, participatory, and long-term sustainability-oriented tourism development policies and practices in Lombok.
