Abstract

One of the phenomena in Industrial Revolution 4.0 is common digitization and ensuring constant communication between people themselves, people and devices and between devices themselves. Therefore in this Industrial revolution 4.0 or Destruction era, English Communicative Competence is one of the important skills. Based on Tracer Study of Duta Bangsa University, alumni’s English Communicative Competence has not been satisfied. The objectives of the research are to know whether the graduates are ready or not to face the Industrial Revolution 4.0?. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The research used TOEIC that was tested by International Test Center (ITC) to know the result of the research. The populations of the research were the entire students who would graduate in the academic years 2018/2019, there were 308 students from Health Faculty anda 176 students from Computer Science faculty. The researchers used TOEIC to know the English Communicative Competence of Health and Computer Science faculty graduates. The results from TOEIC showed that the higher TOEIC score was 955 (International Proficiency), the minimum score was 140 (No Useful Proficiency) and the mean score was 288 (Elementary Proficiency). It means that most of the students have not been ready to competate in this era and the graduates needs good English Communicative Competence to competate in this distruction era.

Abstract

The current context under the threat of the pandemic as a result of COVID-19 is causing a series of transformations one of them is communication pattern. The government decide to close schools and campus therefore educational centers continue teaching activities from homes and use information and communication technologies. There is no direct interaction among students and students, students and teachers and other parts. The purpose of the study is to understand Student Communication Pattern in Learning Process through Social Media in Covid 19 Pandemic. This study is descriptive qualitative research, the method of the study is library research. The analyses and depictions in this study will be taken from books, journals, magazines, social media and articles that are related to the topic. The result of the study understands the student Communication Pattern in Learning Process Through Social Media in Covid 19 Pandemic.

Abstract

Covid-19 as the global pandemic with social and physical distancing consequence has affected educational practices. Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, Schools are temporally closed therefore, students study at home, teacher adapts the situation. They have online class and online assessment as well. In this case, technology supports teaching learning process. The purpose of the study is to understand some types of Online English Assessments for during Covid-19 Pandemic. Data were collected from books, journals, news, social media and other relevant sources. Literature study is carried out to obtain the necessary data by reading the literature sources. The data collected was then analyzed qualitatively. The result of the study is Teacher can assess the EFL learning by using formative assessment, the assessment can assess reading, speaking, writing and grammar by give task activities. Beside that synchronous method is the most proper one. Teacher can use some applications that can meet the students virtually like Google meets, Zoom Meeting and other synchronous application.

Abstract

Language competence is needed in this era because in this revolution industry 4.0 foreign companies can built their business in Indonesia. Therefore, as Indonesian generation must be ready to face this international competition using international languages. The purpose of the study is to Improve CEFR Level B1 Vocabularies Through Instagram. Research design used in this research was qualitative research. Literature study is carried out to obtain the necessary data by reading the literature sources. The data was collected from some English Instagram accounts in August 2022, the accounts are Bahasa Inggris Daily, Belajar_Bahasa.Inggris, Kampunginggrislc, bahasainggris, Englishtoday.bali, the result of this study is the accounts post some vocabulary, phrases/idioms for improving English skills by proving some information about proper vocabularies, synonym and how to apply them. Through Instagram, English learners can improve their vocabularies although not every account post English vocabularies that related to CEFR Level B1 Vocabularies. Conclusion of the study is Instagram can facilitates English Learners to improve their English skill.

Abstract

Tik Tok is a popular platform for people to influence other by sharing status or short-form videos. the purposes of this study is to explore how visual signs, such as gold jewellery and other luxury items, are utilized in the context of flaunting wealth, and how meanings related to wealth and social status are conveyed and understood by employing the elements of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics. The method of the study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Semiotic analysis is used to analyze captions, video transcripts, videos, post images, and the interpretation of the messages conveyed in the images from the TikTok account @mirahayati91. The result of the study shows that the elements of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics comprises three main elements that can be applied to analyse signs within a given content, including the gold flaunting content on Mira Hayati's TikTok account. The videos posted on @mirahayati91 attract significant public attention, as each upload elicits responses from online communities, resulting in both positive and negative comments. This dynamic showcases how Mira Hayati’s portrayal of wealth sparks diverse reactions, reflecting broader societal views on success, luxury, and social status. The conclution is Through semiotic analysis, the researcher successfully revealed the meanings behind the images and videos uploaded on the TikTok account @mirahayati91.

Abstract

Recently, Indonesian people often use non-standard Indonesian language. This is due to the fusion of languages that occurs as a result of globalization. Social media is also not spared from this phenomenon, especially the Twitter application. This study will discuss the use of the Diglossia language variety used by the Indonesian people on Twitter social media. For data collection, the author uses a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the data. The theory focuses on grammar and language function. The results of this study indicate that the language used by the Indonesian people on Twitter is divided into two variations of language, namely formal and informal. Most of the websites of government, health issues, politics, and education use a variety of formal language in each of their posts. While the general public who do not spread the above issues from teenagers to adults use a variety of informal languages. This proves that in every use of Indonesian, Indonesian people still have a variety of languages called Diglossia, even in social media applications.

Abstract

Technology provides both exciting opportunities and complex challenges that influence human’s life, one of the influences is language changes. This paper aims to provide the reader with an understanding of the slang types on social media, especially Twitter. This paper applies qualitative data research to discover and research types of slang and why it is used for interactions. Data were collected from document analysis and used the interactive model of data analysis. The results shows that the types of slang language on Twitter showed different results for each type. The highest is acronyms with a percentage of 78,57% and the least are imitative, compounding, and clipping with a percentage of 1,42%. There were 2 reasons for using slang, the reasons is to build a good impact on social interaction, and to use slang language to make the conversation run much more smoothly. The conclusion of this study is people use a variety of languages from formal language to informal. One of language variations is slang on social media or even in daily conversations with types of slang such as fresh and creative, imitative, compounding, clipping, and acronyms.
