Abstract

This study examines the European Union’s contribution to the implementation of the Jordan Compact (2016–2021) as a response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan. Using a qualitative case study approach based on official EU documents, international reports, and academic literature, the study finds that the EU played a central role through three dimensions: financial support, trade and labor policy measures, and institutional coordination. The Jordan Compact contributed to increasing formal work permits for Syrian refugees and strengthening Jordan’s fiscal stability. However, its impact on long-term economic transformation, job quality, gender inclusion, and reduced aid dependency remains limited. The findings also indicate that the EU’s contribution is shaped by broader strategic interests, particularly regional stabilization and external migration management. Therefore, while significant, the EU’s role cannot be considered fully transformational. Keywords: European Union, Jordan Compact, migration.

Abstract

This study examines the interests of Indonesia and Singapore in the 2022 Extradition Treaty through the treaty’s provisions and the ratification process, particularly regarding law enforcement efforts and the repatriation of individuals convicted of corruption. After facing setbacks since 2007, the treaty was finally concluded on January 25, 2022, and ratified by Indonesia through Law No. 5 of 2023 and by Singapore through its domestic mechanisms. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using literature review techniques and is analyzed through a two-level games perspective to examine the interplay between international negotiations and the domestic dynamics of both nations. The results of the study indicate that this agreement incorporates the principle of double criminality, limited retroactive provisions, and a more structured extradition mechanism. The differences in the legal systems, Indonesia’s civil law system and Singapore’s common law system influenced the ratification process. But did not hinder the implementation of the agreement rather they reflect the alignment of the two countries’ interests in reaching an agreement. This study analyzes the implementation of Extinction Rebellion (XR) global values by XR Riau in building a local climate movement amid environmental crises in Riau Province. The focus is on three key values: shared vision of change, mission on what is necessary, and regenerative culture. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews and literature review. The results show that XR Riau implements these values through public education, symbolic nonviolent actions, and the development of collective awareness. These values shape movement direction, issue prioritization, and internal sustainability. However, challenges remain, including low public awareness, limited capacity, and safety concerns. Abstract

This study aims to identify the strategy of PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional (HUMI) in supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 14 on life below water through the implementation of the Humpuss Blue Commitment. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method using interviews and literature review. Abstract

The idiosyncratic character of Donald Trump significantly influenced his attitudes and policy choices during the process of normalizing relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Prior to the agreement, relations between the two states were marked by political tension, as the UAE was part of the Arab League boycott of Israel. However, shared national interests and common threats encouraged the emergence of discreet diplomatic interactions. The Trump administration seized this opportunity by promoting normalization through the Abraham Accords as part of the United States’ broader Middle East foreign policy. Amid domestic pressure including public unrest related to the COVID-19 crisis and driven by Trump’s campaign promises to broker peace in the Middle East and strengthen Israel’s international standing, the Abraham Accords became a vehicle through which Trump sought to improve his political image and present himself as an architect of regional peace. The findings indicate that Trump’s behavior throughout the normalization process between Israel and the United Arab Emirates under the 2020 Abraham Accords reflects three key leadership traits. Ego-Ambition as he sought to restore his political image and secure a major Middle East agreement. Goal Oriented demonstrated by his selection of a team whose views aligned with his objectives, and Crusader Expansionist marked by his assertive and sometimes coercive approach in pushing Arab states to normalize relations with Israel. Keywords: United States Foreign Policy, AIPAC, Evangelical Christian Groups, Political Lobbying Groups, Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Abstract

The use of popular culture can be an instrument of soft power has become a common diplomatic practice in international relations, as seen in China’s diplomacy in Indonesia. Diplomacy through popular culture is one of China’s efforts to strengthen its soft power in Indonesia, using Donghua (Chinese animation) as part of its strategy. This study aims to examine how China’s diplomacy utilizes popular culture as part of its strategy to strengthen its soft power influence in Indonesia. This study employs soft power theory and new public diplomacy to analyze China’s efforts to use animated popular culture as a modern cultural element in its soft power diplomacy. The method employed in this study is qualitative, with a literature review as the primary source of analysis. The results of this study indicate that China utilizes Donghua popular culture as part of its “Going Out” Cultural Strategy to strengthen its influence and disseminate Chinese culture in Indonesia. One example is the release of the animated film Ne Zha in Indonesia, which introduces Chinese culture in a modern way. Keywords: Animation, Culture Strategy, Popular Culture, Soft Power, Tiongkok.
