Abstract

This study examines the knowledge of the people of Manggul-Lahat Village, South Sumatra about the making of bekasam and compares or correlates it with scientific concepts. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method with an etnoscience approach. The steps taken in collecting data are interviews, observation, documentation and literature study. The results of this study indicate that bekasam is a typical food of the people in Indonesia, especially the people of South Sumatera, Kalimantan and Central Java whose management knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. Furthermore, in the manufacturing process there is a scientific study relationship between culture and science. Thus, the process of making bekasam can be used as a natural science learning material. Therefore, the role of the teacher is very important in order to convey the values of local wisdom with science.

Abstract

There is data indicating a continuous increase in the workforce, especially with the rising number of high school graduates each year, both at the provincial level in Jambi and in the city of Sungai Penuh. Faced with this situation, one proposed solution is through entrepreneurship empowerment. It is hoped that the Community Service Program can generate new entrepreneurs by involving a series of activities, ranging from planning, production processes, to the marketing of Aksara Incung batik. This is considered a contribution to addressing workforce growth issues and enhancing the skills of the younger generation. The Community Service Program is expected to be able to give birth to new entrepreneurs through a series of planning activities and processes leading to the implementation of the production and marketing process of incung batik. The community service method used is the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method. The ABCD approach aims to develop an Asset-Based Community (potential), such as developing an educational community, an economy, and so on. The result of the service is the Incung script, which is typical of the cities of Sungai Penuh and Kerinci. Another angle is incung batik, which is a typical souvenir of Sungai Penuh. Until now, there has still been a shortage of incung batik craftsmen. The aspect of batik incung, as a distinctive souvenir of Sungai Penuh, still faces a shortage of craftsmen up to the present time. Particularly, the practice of batik incung craftsmen is mainly bound by traditional inheritance, and the product lacks innovation. With the presence of training, it is hoped to create improvement in the management of Human Resources, where Human Resources are considered as the main source or asset. Keywords: Include a maximum of three keywords or phrases

Abstract

Scientific argumentation aimed at reaching a rational perspective on science, scientific concepts, or elements within a scientific procedure. This study is experimental research employing a pretest-posttest control group design. The research was conducted with a population of 44 fifth-semester students majoring in biology education. The sample selection was performed using random sampling, consisting of two classes (experimental and control), each comprising 22 students. Data for the research were collected through pretests and posttests, which included 10 questions with five argumentation indicators via the minimum structure essay test. The research findings demonstrated an enhancement in students' ability to articulate their comprehension of the material when utilizing teaching materials compared to those who did not. As a result, it is recommended that the incorporation of teaching materials into the learning process be implemented in various other courses to foster the development of argumentation skills, including the presentation of claims, data, warrants, backing, and effective rebuttals in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration of local wisdom from Kerinci into chemistry learning by utilizing an ethnochemistry approach. The background of the research focuses on the importance of contextual learning in facilitating the understanding of chemistry concepts. The research method employed is a field study with a qualitative approach and descriptive design. The study involves chemistry teachers from SMA Negeri 7 Kerinci and the community of Koto Tuo Pulau Tengah village as informants. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis technique applied is the Miles & Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The main findings of the research indicate that Kerinci's local wisdom, such as the use of turmeric, betel leaves, betel lime, jackfruit leaves, and banana peels, has significant relevance to chemistry material and can be integrated to enhance students' understanding. Teachers can create context-based lesson plans that link theoretical knowledge to practical examples, allowing students to grasp the real-world relevance of chemistry.

Abstract

The utilization of teaching materials plays a vital role in achieving educational objectives, especially in fostering CTS crucial for students to meet global challenges and solve complex problems. This study focuses on 5th-semester biology students enrolled in the Anatomy and Physiology of the Human Body (ANFISMAN) course. A quantitative approach is employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental Pretest-Post test control group design. Critical thinking levels are measured through structured essay assessments, comprising ten questions aligned with five critical thinking indicators: focus, reasoning, organization, prevalence, and integration. In the first phase, students understanding of the concepts is gauged, targeting comprehension in the context of critical thinking evaluation. The second phase assesses their ability to provide logical reasons for problem-solving, supported by factual evidence. The third phase examines students' skills in synthesizing conclusions, while the fourth phase evaluates their adherence to standard grammatical conventions. Finally, the fifth phase assesses the accuracy and clarity of responses, ensuring comprehensive evaluation based on evidence. The study sampled 48 students and revealed that teaching materials significantly enhanced CTS development, as demonstrated by a t-test significance value of 0.000, which is markedly below the 0.05 threshold. This indicates a notable difference in critical thinking outcomes between students using modified inquiry-based teaching materials and those who did not. Furthermore, the experimental group achieved a higher average N-Gain value of 0.4133 compared to the control group's 0.3828. These results highlight the effectiveness of well-structured teaching materials in fostering critical thinking within the ANFISMAN course, emphasizing in advancing biology education.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of learning style on students’ performance through online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The subjects of study are 269 chemistry education students at three universities in Indonesia. The data collection of learning style uses a Likert scale questionnaire, and learning performance is obtained from students’ grade point average. In this research, students’ learning style was divided into visual, auditorial, and kinesthetic. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with linear regression and ANOVA tests. The learning styles positively affect student learning performance by 4.7%, while 95.3% of other factors are not examined in this study. The learning performance of students with auditory is higher than visual and kinesthetic learning styles. Based on the inferential analysis, there is no significant difference in student learning performance based on student learning styles. Therefore, students with different learning styles have the same learning performance in online learning.

Abstract

Abstract  This study aims to analyze the learning difficulties of grade X students in chemistry learning at SMAN 1 Kerinci in the context of implementing the Independent Curriculum. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews and observations of chemistry teachers. The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding abstract concepts such as atoms and chemical reactions, which were exacerbated by limited access to information and varying teacher readiness in implementing the Independent Curriculum. This study recommends teacher training, increasing access to learning resources, and implementing flexible approaches and teaching differentiation to improve the effectiveness of chemistry learning and student achievement.
