Abstract

Abstract

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a critical neurodegenerative disorder affecting the central nervous system and often causing impaired movement and cognitive function in patients. In addition, its diagnosis in the early stages requires a complex and time-consuming process because all existing tests such as electroencephalography or blood examinations lack effectiveness and accuracy. Several studies explored PD prediction using sound, with a specific focus on the development of classification models to enhance accuracy. The majority of these neglected crucial aspects including feature extraction and proper parameter tuning, leading to low accuracy. Objective: This study aims to optimize performance of voice-based PD prediction through feature extraction, with the goal of reducing data dimensions and improving model computational efficiency. Additionally, appropriate parameters will be selected for enhancement of the ability of the model to identify both PD cases and healthy individuals. Methods: The proposed new model applied an OpenML dataset comprising voice recordings from 31 individuals, namely 23 PD patients and 8 healthy participants. The experimental process included the initial use of the SVM algorithm, followed by implementing PCA for feature extraction to enhance machine learning accuracy. Subsequently, data balancing with SMOTE was conducted, and GridSearchCV was used to identify the best parameter combination based on the predicted model characteristics.  Result: Evaluation of the proposed model showed an impressive accuracy of 97.44%, sensitivity of 100%, and specificity of 85.71%. This excellent result was achieved with a limited dataset and a 10-fold cross-validation tuning, rendering the model sensitive to the training data. Conclusion: This study successfully enhanced the prediction model accuracy through the SVM+PCA+GridSearchCV+CV method. However, future investigations should consider an appropriate number of folds for a small dataset, explore alternative cross-validation methods, and expand the dataset to enhance model generalizability.   Keywords: GridSearchCV, Parkinson Disaese, SVM, PCA, SMOTE, Voice/Speech

Abstract

As a local wisdom agricultural system in Bali, Subak is threatened in maintaining food sovereignty in the Bali region. This is because farmers no longer fully implement the Tri Hita Karana principles in their agricultural systems. Currently, farmers are turning to the Green Revolution agricultural system which has principles that are contrary to those contained in the food sovereignty system. This study aims to determine the extent to which the Green Revolution has degraded the food sovereignty of Subak which applies the values of Tri Hita Karana so that it can identify the root causes of problems and solutions that can be carried out to maintain food sovereignty. This research uses qualitative research design and Life History method to understand various changes that occur in depth. Data collection is done using observation, literature, and conduct direct interviews with three Subaks in Tabanan regency. The results showed a shifting orientation from the human-based agricultural system to capital and technology. The results of this shift degrade the food sovereignty of Subak, especially the rights of farmers as well as environmental and cultural degradation. The Green Revolution did not directly affect Subak's food sovereignty, but the farmers who were influenced by changes brought by the Green Revolution made Subak not sovereign.

Abstract

Abstract. With the current advancement in technology, image classification process can be carried out through computer processing. This can also be applied to various fields, one of which is the health sector. The health sector is known for its high complexity in pattern recognizing of diseases. One of the diseases that is difficult to classify is brain tumors.             Purpose: This study aims to improve the accuracy of classification in brain MRI images, which are known to have a small and unbalanced sample. This limitation poses challenges in developing an effective classification model. The classification model is highly dependent on the quantity of data used for training. Therefore, data augmentation techniques play a crucial role in influencing the model's performance. Methods/Study design/approach: In this study, CNN model using VGG-19 architecture was used to learn feature of brain tumor in brain MRI images. Additionally, CycleGAN is used to augment and balance the data, addressing issues related to data scarcity and imbalance, thus improving diversity of the dataset. And then, XGBoost is applied to classify the feature learned by the CNN model. Result/Findings: CycleGAN has the ability to generate new image by transferring characteristics between images with different classes, making it a suitable to replace traditional data augmentation techniques in CNN. Additionally, XGBoost can be used to improve the classification results by classifying the features learned by CNN model during the training process. The proposed combination method achieves a highest accuracy of 97.37%. Novelty/Originality/Value: CNN combined with CycleGAN and XGBoost successfully improved the accuracy of the model and addresed data scarcity and imbalances in the dataset used. This combined method can improve the accuracy of the classification models. This is proven by an accuracy increase of 0.36% when compared to previous research.
