Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out whether or not there were any significant different scores obtained by the students who were taught through concept-oriented reading instruction (CORI) method and those who were not. A quasi-experimental design, specifically nonequivalent control group design was applied in this study. The result of the study showed that the students’ scores in paired sample t-test of experimental group higher than control group (-11.83 > -12.64), while in independent sample t-test, the critical value 0.05 significance level with df 35 (36-1) was 1.697 and t-obtained 1.992. It means that tobtained was higher than t-table as critical value (1.992 > 1.697). Consequently, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It could be concluded that, teaching reading comprehension of procedure text through Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) method to the tenth grade students of state senior high school 13 Palembang was effective

Meanwhile, Student interest in learning was evaluated using a questionnaire. Both data were analyzed using the t-test to see the mean difference (1) between the pre-and post-test students' speaking achievement and their self-confidence, and (2) the post-test of speaking achievement and their self-confidence between the first and second groups. Regression analysis was provided to see the contribution of case building to the variables in question. Abstract

Speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy are essential components of oral proficiency in English language learning, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. This study aims to investigate the effect of the shadowing technique on students’ speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy in English language learning. The participants consisted of 32 eleventh-grade students from a senior high school in Palembang. The research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The instrument used was a speaking test conducted before and after the implementation of the shadowing technique to measure students' improvement. The statistical analysis revealed a significant increase in scores between the pre-test and post-test. The mean pre-test score of 5.06 increased to 8.81 in the post-test, with a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant effect. These findings demonstrate that the shadowing technique is effective in enhancing students’ speaking fluency and pronunciation accuracy. Therefore, this technique is recommended as a practical method for improving speaking skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms.
