Abstract

Since ancient times traditional societies continued their practical knowledge and life experiences through language from generation to generation so that each community group has a source of behavioral rules that can be used as a guide for life. Linguists, historians, anthropologists, social observers, cultural experts or literary specialists or anyone who wants to understand the concept of community life can have it from the expression of language in the form of advice, slogans, proverbs, phrases, anecdotes, parables and proverbs. This study discusses the time concepts contained in the Indonesian and German proverbs by focusing on the functions and values of wisdom contained therein. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach and is expected to explain about the philosophy, teaching and reflection of the height of thought of the ancient Indonesian people and the values contained in the German proverb.

Abstract

Metaphor is a form of speech or phrase that refers to one peculiar thing by mentioning another thing to get a rhetorical effect. The use of metaphor can explain the hidden similarity between two ideas of thought. This paper analyzes metaphors that use color names in Indonesian and their equivalences in German. Through metaphorical analysis, it can be expressed and compared on habits, implied knowledge, social representation of cultural diversity which at the same time reflects the norms embodied in the language user community in Indonesia and Germany. Data obtained from KBBI (2008) and Wahrig dictionary (2009). The research method is qualitative descriptive. The colors are distinguished in primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) and neutral colors (black and white). The results show that there are color metaphors in all primary and neutral colors in the two languages. Metaphors are used to express feelings (sad, happy, envy, angry), express ingenuity, hope, honesty, courage and so on. On the contrary, through color metaphors we can also criticize dishonesty, bad nature, ignorance evil and so on.

Abstract

Pembelajaran di masa pandemi COVID-19 ini menuntut kreativitas guru dalam memberikan pembelajaran yang menarik dan mudah dimengerti walaupun dilakukan secara daring. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan pemanfaatan aplikasi smartboard khususnya mengenai fitur interactive whiteboard (selanjutnya, IWB) kepada guru sekolah menengah dalam pembelajaran daring. Pelatihan ini berlangsung secara daring melalui media zoom meeting dan merupakan salah satu dari rangkaian pelatihan yang dilaksanakan Fakultas Pascasarjana Universitas Indraprasta pada tanggal 17 Februari dan 24 Februari 2021. Hasil dari pengabdian masyarakat ini diharapkan dapat memberikan solusi alternatif bagi para guru dalam memberikan pembelajaran daring di tengah pandemi COVID-19. Pelatihan penggunaan IWB ini telah memberi kontribusi bagi para guru berupa ilmu dan wawasan tentang teknologi pendidikan mutakhir. Selain itu, melalui pelatihan ini diharapkan para guru dapat meningkatkan kemahiran dalam mengajar yaitu dengan melakukan berbagai teknik dan pendekatan pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan kondisi pandemi saat ini, salah satunya melalui pemanfaatan aplikasi smartbord.

Abstract

This research is a comparational study that aims to determine the differences in entrepreneurial attitudes between ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs and ethnic Indigenous entrepreneurs in Mamajang District and Wajo District, Makassar city. This research is quantitative research. The population in this study were ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs and ethnic Indigenous entrepreneurs in Mamajang and Wajo sub-districts, with a research sample of 60 entrepreneurs divided into two, namely 30 entrepreneurs from Chinese ethnicity and 30 entrepreneurs from Indigenous ethnicity. The sampling technique used was snowball sampling. The data analysis method in this study uses the t-test. The results of the difference test using the t-test technique obtained a value of t = 3.481 with a significance value or p = 0.001. These results indicate that there are differences in entrepreneurial attitudes between ethnic Chinese and indigenous ethnicities in mamajang sub-district and wajo sub-district of Makassar city. The results showed that ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs have a higher entrepreneurial attitude than ethnic indigenous entrepreneurs. Testing on each aspect found a difference in the aspects of discipline and independence with ethnic Chinese having a higher score than ethnic natives while in the aspects of high commitment, honesty, creative and innovative and realistic found no difference.

Abstract

This research has a purpose to analyze the theme elements inside the movie of WALL-E. The theme that is going to be analyzed are the socio-cultural and socio-psychological postmodernity. This research is designed by using the approach of qualitative argumentative research. The data for this research is collected directly from the movie itself, its screenplay and its novel adaptation. The form of the data collected is in narrative and descriptive text, dialogue, symbols and images. The result founds that the elements and themes of socio-cultural and socio-psychological postmodernity truly reigns the movie WALL-E; 1). The socio-cultural postmodernity depiction in this movie shows many aspects such as; the abrupt modern culture and technology, the modern world consumerism, the modern human relationship, and also the government negligence toward its own people. The portion of this theme is 54,8%. 2). The depiction of socio-psychological postmodernity in this movie shows the birth of the agent of change among the society and the abrupt modern world social awareness. The portion of this theme is 29,6%. 3). The pure postmodernity symbols (in a form of either the wordplay or the images used in the movie) that are also shown vividly has the portion of 15,6%. This means that the theme of socio-cultural postmodernity dominates the movie. But alas, due to the connection of every themes of the movie toward postmodern theme, in conclusion, the postmodernity is the theme that truly dominates the movie 100%.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to find out character and moral value in the novel. The method that is used in the research is qualitative that aims to describe the character and moral value in the novel “Les Miserables”. The writer did several steps of extracting the data through reading a whole book carefully, categorizing the characters and kinds of moral values, making table based on the specifications of character and moral value. The findings reveal that there are several characters and moral values presented explicity themselves. This novel has two objectives: to explain about characters in the novel and  analyze about moral value in the novel. 1) One of characters that is more dominant is lover. The value of lover reaches 18.5 % because this novel shows more about love and compassion. 2) Moral values in “Les Miserables”, there are four types of moral value such as love and sincerity, forgiveness, sacrifice, and justice/injustice. Love and sincerity is more dominant than the other elements. The value for love and sincerity reach 42% because it shows more about love and sincerity. Key words: Character, Moral value, Novel.

Abstract

Abstract: The research was conducted to analyze stylistic pragmatic of figurative language and speech acts in Queen's songs on A Night at The Opera. The method of study is descriptive analysis. The result shows that: 1) there are six kinds of figurative language Metaphor 14 times, hyperbole 40 times, personification 19 times, simile three times, metonymy once, and synecdoche. The most dominant type of figurative language is hyperbole, which occurs 40 times. 2) 3 types of speech acts occur in this song: 12 songs, which are those 20 lines of lyrics are considered imperatives. However, there are only a few lyrics using interrogative and the rest using exclamative. 3) There are four occurrences of illocutionary acts found in the song. They are representatives, directives, commisive, and verdictives. Representative is dominant—perlocutionary acts with 14 times of occurrences. Directive occurs three times. Verdictive occurs in a relatively small number, two occurrences. The lowest type of illocutionary act is commisive as it occurs only once. Abstract

Teks prosedur merupakan teks paparan yang bertujuan memberikan penjelasan tentang cara melakukan sesuatu. Teks ini sangat diperlukan oleh seseorang yang hendak melakukan suatu kegiatan dan belum jelas langkah-langkahnya. Dengan membaca teks prosedur, orang-orang dapat menggunakan alat atau melakukan langkah-langkah suatu kegiatan dengan cara yang benar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan struktur teks prosedur pada kemasan produk makanan dan implikasinya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Metode penelitian  yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Data berupa teks prosedur yang dianalisis adalah teks petunjuk yang terdapat dalam kemasan produk makanan cepat saji. Jumlah teks yang dijadikan data adalah 20 teks. Diperoleh dalam rentang waktu November 2022 sampai dengan Januari 2023. Setiap teks prosedur dianalisis dengan memperhatikan strukur pembentuk teks prosedur dan aspek kebahasaan yang terdapat dalam teks prosedur. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dari aspek struktur teks prosedur, struktur ke-20 teks tidak lengkap. Pada teks hanya tertulis langkah-langkah berupa kalimat perintah yang disusun secara sistematik dan tidak tertulis pengantar pernyataan atau tujuan dan daftar bahan atau peralatan. Terdapat 16 teks prosedur yang disertai gambar pada setiap tahapnya sehingga dapat membantu pemahaman pembaca atau konsumen. Kemudian dari aspek tinjauan kebahasaan, ditemukan ciri-ciri kebahasaan teks prosedur yaitu berupa penggunaan kalimat perintah, kata perintah, kata penghubung yang menyatakan urutan waktu, kata-kata penunjuk waktu, kata-kata yang menyatakan urutan langkah kegiatan, dan kata-kata teknis yang sesuai dengan temanya. Selanjutnya temuan dalam kajian ini adalah fakta bahwa sebagian besar teks prosedur yang terdapat pada kemasan makanan masih kurang memperhatikan kaidah penulisan bahasa Indonesia, seperti penggunaan tanda baca, penulisan huruf, dan penulisan istilah asing. Kata Kunci: teks prosedur; kemasan produk makanan; pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze new word formations in Indonesian related to COVID-19 and identify its function in online newspapers. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach by adapting generative morphological theories as the framework. The research objects are 32 new word formations found in various texts in online newspapers in Indonesia collected between April 2020 to August 2020. The data were analyzed using the top-down technique distribution method. This method uses a determinant in the language element itself, namely the data selection technique based on specific categories in terms of grammarism in accordance with the natural characteristics of the research data. The study shows that the new word formation in modern Indonesian related to COVID-19 can be obtained by coining roots, compounding, abbreviation, and acronym. Those unique word formations are originated primarily from Indonesian and English. The function of its usage is mainly referential (abbreviation and acronym) and expressive (roots and compounding). We create new words to fulfill the designation needs of new issues that appear in society. Furthermore, the development in society, especially in coping with global health issues, has also contributed to the enrichment of Indonesian vocabulary.

Abstract

Sastra sebagai rekaman realitas membawa pesan kemanusiaan. Puisi sebagai salah satu karya sastra bukan saja mengunakan bahasa yang unik tetapi juga mengandung makna mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hasil pembacaan heuristik, deskripsi ketidaklangsungan ekspresi yang meliputi pergantian arti, penyimpangan arti, dan penciptaan arti, serta makna dari baik puisi melalui pembacaan hermeneutik; Ujud matriks inti dari puisi; dan hipogram dari bait-bait puisi Wiji Tukhul dengan menggunakan kerangka analisis semiotik sastra Riffaterre. Hasil kerangka analisis tersebut kemudian diimplementasikan dalam pembelajaran sastra Indonesia. Sumber data berasal dari puisi Wiji Tukhul yang yang berjudul Suara dari Rumah-rumah Miring. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis semiotik untuk menganalisis tanda-tanda di dalam sumber data untuk menggali makna di dalamnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif analisis untuk menganalisis puisi secara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Widji tukhul melakukan penggantian makna, penyimpangan arti, dan penciptaan makna baru untuk menyuarakan kritik terhadap para penguasa. Kajian model menunjukkan bahwa isi puisi ini menjadi suara dari rumah-rumah miring sebagai harapan dari masyarakat kelas bawah. Varian dari puisi ini berupa: (1) kehidupan tidak layak; (2) hilangnya harapan; (3) solusi semu; dan (4) golongan yang terusir dengan matriks berupa sebuah perlawanan dan kritik terhadap kondisi seumumnya masyarakat kelas bawah yang hak dasarnya tidak terpenuhi. Kajian intertekstualitas menemukan bahwa hipogram dari puisi ini adalah puisi yang dibuat oleh Soe Hok Gie yaitu Sebuah Nyanyian Sederhana untuk Kaum Tertindas
