Abstract

Currently, it is obvious that occupational health and safety culture in companies is on the rise including a focus on workers’ working postures. However, the implementation of these initiatives tends to be notably deficient, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This research aims to introduce a framework for evaluating workers’ working postures taking into account ergonomic factors and other influential factors. In this study, the developed evaluation model was applied to an SME producing kitchenware situated in Indonesia using rapid upper limb assessment (RULA), and the method was combined with multi criteria decision-making (MCDM). There were five criteria identified, namely RULA score (C1), the activity’s level of importance (C2), duration (C3), work station environmental condition (C4), and supportive equipment (C5). These five criteria were considered to evaluate five working postures on the production floor. The result indicated that based on the RULA score, five postures were categorized as high risk. Besides, by considering the criteria, working posture in assembly activity (posture 3) has the highest risk level which requires immediate corrective action. This research is applicable as the evaluation of work posture is assessed by considering ergonomic factors and the level of importance for each activity.

Abstract

The increase in population significantly impacts the growth of waste volume. In Indonesia, poor waste management exacerbates the issue of waste. In Yogyakarta, specifically, this problem has become critical due to the permanent closure of the integrated waste disposal site that has been relied upon. Despite various government programs being implemented, the active participation of the community as waste producers in addressing waste issues must be continuously enhanced. Independent waste management is one of the frequently proposed solutions. This program is supported by an overarching program called the waste bank. The existence of the waste bank must be accompanied by a high level of community participation. However, the lack of community access to the waste bank needs attention. Accordingly, this community service program will provide inorganic waste bins to increase community participation in managing inorganic waste while supporting the role of the waste bank. There are two main activities in this program: the design and production of inorganic waste bins, and the community education of household waste management. This community service collaborates with the waste bank located in Muja-Muju, Yogyakarta, targeting the campus area of the Faculty of Engineering at UST and the community on Miliran Street. This initiative also involves cooperation between the campus and the bank in institutional-scale waste management.

Abstract

This paper studies on proposed inventory policy at a well-known pharmacy in Riau Province, Indonesia. Pharmacy X often experiences stockouts, especially during the critical period of the COVID-19 pandemic. These stockouts lead to lost sales. The Q and P inventory models are used to determine the optimal order quantity and order period using several simulation scenarios. Storage capacity and the ability of suppliers to supply drugs are constraints in this study. However, only 7 SKUs that often run out will be examined. The purpose of this paper is to minimize the shortage level of the SKUs using a parameter of shortage costs. After simulation, it was proven there was a decrease in the shortage costs in each SKU compared to the actual state. The reduction reached 23% - 74%.

Abstract

In the current business activities characterized by technological integration, the role of salespeople remains crucial as the frontline in enhancing product sales. Due to their contribution, it is imperative for companies to evaluate their performance. This research proposes an evaluation model for salespersons using a multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach. Two MCDM methods, namely fuzzy AHP and EDAS, are employed to determine the weight of evaluation criteria and rank 13 salespersons in a grocery store situated in an Indonesian traditional market. This study considers seven criteria: revenue (C1), honesty (C2), communication skills (C3), empathy (C4), extensive relationships (C5), work motivation (C6), and responsibility and discipline (C7). Using fuzzy AHP, criteria C2, C6, and C3 are identified as the main priority. Subsequently, the criteria weights are integrated into the EDAS calculation to rank the 13 salespersons. Salesmen SP2, SP3, and SP6 emerge as the top performers. This research provides an applicable evaluation model for decision-makers in the store, enabling them to assess their salespeople not solely based on quantitative output but also considering other criteria that may have a lasting impact. Keywords: EDAS, evaluation performance, fuzzy AHP, salespeople

Abstract

The decision-making process for selecting recipients of the SEHATI Scholarship by the Yayasan Senyum Kita frequently faces challenges in ensuring transparency and fairness. This study aims to enhance the decision-making system by applying the DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) and F-AHP (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) methods. The research involved 20 children for the 2023/2024 academic year during the odd semester, examining three main criteria: parental income (K1), orphan status (K2), and disability (K3). Results from both methods indicated that the K2 criterion dominates the selection process. The DEMATEL analysis revealed that K2 has the most significant influence on decision-making, while F-AHP confirmed this influence by assigning it the highest weight of 0.37 out of 1.00. Furthermore, both methods suggested a nearly identical number of qualified children, with DEMATEL identifying 11 and F-AHP 10. The application of DEMATEL and F-AHP successfully increased transparency and objectivity in the selection process and recommended a more systematic framework for evaluating scholarship eligibility.

Abstract

The selection of green-based suppliers remains a challenge for manufacturing firms in Indonesia. In today's business landscape, it is crucial to consider green aspects as part of sustainability practices when choosing suppliers. However, there is a limited number of studies providing frameworks for selecting suppliers based on green factors, particularly in developing countries. This study aimed to propose a framework for selecting suppliers using multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques. A case study was conducted in an Indonesian metal manufacturing company that considers carbon reduction and incorporates traditional supplier selection factors such as quality, cost, and capacity. The study integrated two MCDM techniques, namely the best-worst method (BWM) and Višekriterijumsko Kompromisno Rangiranje (VIKOR), to evaluate and select green-based suppliers. BWM was employed to determine the weights of the criteria, while VIKOR ranked the suppliers. Seven criteria were identified, including cost (C1), quality (C2), delivery time (C3), technology application (C4), compliance with environmental regulations (C5), green practice certification (C6), and green efforts (C7). Nine suppliers were screened and ranked accordingly. The results indicate that quality, delivery time, and cost are the top three ranked criteria based on their importance. Further, this study includes nine suppliers in which supplier S7 demonstrates the best performance compared to the others. This study highlights that in Indonesia, most organizations tend to prioritize traditional criteria, while green factors are still overlooked. However, the company examined in this study has taken the initiative to include environmental factors in its decision-making process. The findings of this study contribute to the development of a framework for selecting green suppliers in a developing country context.

Abstract

The increasing population in several countries, including Indonesia, leads to a heightened demand for food, a significant portion of which comes from animal sources. Various efforts have been made by different parties to meet the soaring demand for animal meat. Although there is a growing trend of individually managed livestock enterprises, failure risks are frequent, often resulting in suboptimal economic outcomes. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate the factors influencing the success of livestock businesses. Furthermore, this research also intends to develop a mathematical model to predict potential profits, taking these factors into account. The framework is developed based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and multiple linear regression (MLR). This proposed framework is demonstrated in a pig farming business located in Wamena, Papua, Indonesia. The results indicate that out of six identified criteria, four are most significant in affecting livestock success: culture (C5), pig breed (C2), gender (C1), and physical condition (C4). Additionally, to build a mathematical model for predicting profits, a dataset comprising 44 combinations of sub-criteria has been constructed. The mathematical model shows a prediction capability of 84.3%, indicating very strong correlation. Although the livestock success evaluation model developed in this study is tested only on one type of livestock, the framework, in general, can be adopted for other types of business ventures.
