Abstract

Decreased water quality can be caused by fish losing their appetite, resulting in a buildup of food waste in the water. One of the additional ingredients that can be used is brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour. This research aims to determine the effect of adding brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour to feed on the growth of African catfish seeds and the appropriate dosage in feed that can increase the growth of African catfish seeds. The method used in this research was experimental with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments used were (P0) control, (P1) 10% brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour, (P2) 15% brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour, and (P3) 20% brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour. The test fish used were African catfish fry weighing 3-4 g and 5-7 cm long. The container used is waring with a density of 20 fish per pound. The amount of feed given is 5% of the biomass of African catfish seeds. The observation data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the F test at a test interval of 5%, if there were significant differences, continue with Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that the addition of 10% brackish snail (Faunus ater) flour gave significant results with the highest absolute length growth of 13.3±0.18 cm, the highest absolute weight growth of 36.2±0.18 g, the highest survival of 98.3±2.8%, the lowest feed conversion ratio was 1.1±0.0.

Abstract

The high price of fish meal is also a reason for alternatives and better protein sources. This research aims to substitute fish meal with maggot meal in feed for snakehead fish's growth rate and survival. The method used in this research is the experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consists of five treatments and three replications. The treatments used were (A) without the use of maggot flour (control), (B) 15% maggot flour substitution, (C) 30% maggot flour substitution, (D) 45% maggot flour substitution, (E) 60% maggot flour substitution, which was maintained for 50 days. The test fish used were snakehead fish with a 9-10 cm length and weighing 7-9 g. The container used is an aquarium with dimensions of 40x26x28 cm3 or a water volume of 15 L, in which five snakehead fish are placed in each aquarium. The amount of feed given is 5% of the fish biomass. The results obtained during the research showed that treatment E with the substitution of fishmeal for maggot meal at 60% of the feed resulted in the highest absolute length growth of 4.0 cm, the highest specific growth rate of 2.54%, and survival of 87%.

Abstract

Essential fatty acids play a crucial role in fish growth and health. A quality feed containing the right amount of fats can promote fish growth and support metabolic functions. Fatty acid requirements vary depending on the fish species and habitat, with freshwater fish tending to require more n-6 fatty acids, while marine fish require more n-3 fatty acids. The use of fat in feed should be well regulated, as too high levels can interfere with the digestive and metabolic processes of the fish. The use of fish oil mixed in feed as much as 1.5% can help improve the growth performance of carp. Magot oil mixed into the feed as much as 15%/100 g gives the best growth performance in carp. Soybean oil used as much as 10% in feed can increase the content of omega 3, EPA, and DHA in catfish meat. Coconut oil used in feed at 6% proved to have a good impact on the DHA content of tilapia. Abstract

This research aims to determine the optimal dose of chitosan that is appropriate to be given to commercial feed in increasing the immune system of sangkuriang catfish fry. The research was carried out in April – June 2021 at the Aquaculture Laboratory and Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. This research used an experimental method of Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatment used was the addition of chitosan to feed with doses of 0 g (A), 2.5 g (B), 5 g (C), 7.5 g (D), and 10 g (E). Maintenance of test fish for 14 days. Experimental fish were infected by Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria with a density of 108 CFU/ml with 10 ml immersion method. Parameters observed included white blood cells, leukocyte differential, clinical symptoms, survival and water quality. Data on white blood cell count, and survival were analyzed by ANOVA, if there was a significant difference, Duncan's test was performed. Leukocyte differential data, clinical symptoms and water quality were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the addition of chitosan at a dose of 10 g was effective for improving the immune system performance of catfish fry. During 14 days of chitosan administration, the white blood cell count increased by 41.60% from the value of 13.96 × 104 cells/mm3 to 23.90 × 104 cells/mm3. The 10 g chitosan treatment was an effective dose to stimulate differential leukocytes in catfish to improve the immune system, it was also marked by the fastest clinical symptom recovery period and the highest survival rate after the challenge test, which was 96.6%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the optimal dose of galangal extract to treatment of Sangkuriang catfish infected with Aeromonas hydrophila, the fish fry used are 5-7 cm in size. October-November 2022 was the research was carried out by an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatment used was immersing with galangal extract for 24 hours with doses of 0 mg/L (A), 250 mg/L (B), 500 mg/L (C) and 750 mg/L (D). Maintenance of test fish for 14 days. Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria are used to infect fish with a density of 108 CFU/ml by immersing 10 ml in 10 liters of water. Clinical symptoms of infection, clinical symptoms of recovery period, survival rate and water quality were used as parameters in this research. The results showed that the use of galangal extract for treatment of Sangkuriang catfish fry infected with Aeromonas hydrophila by immersion method for 24 hours at a concentration of 500 mg/L was the best treatment with the survival rate of 90%. Keywords: Aeromonas hydrophila, Sangkuriang catfish fry, galangal extract ABSTRAK Riset ini bertujuan untuk menentukan dosis optimum ekstrak lengkuas untuk mengobati ikan lele sangkuriang yang terinfeksi Aeromonas hydrophila, benih ikan yang digunakan berukuran 5-7 cm. Oktober-November 2022 adalah waktu penelitian dilaksanakan. Metode eksperimen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang menggunakan empat perlakuan serta tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah perendaman dengan ekstrak lengkuas selama 24 jam dengan dosis masing-masing 0 mg/L (A), 250 mg/L (B), 500 mg/L (C) dan 750 mg/L (D). Pemeliharaan ikan uji selama 14 hari. Bakteri Aeromonas hydrophila digunakan untuk menginfeksi ikan dengan kepadatan 108 CFU/ml dengan cara merendam 10 ml dalam 10 liter air. Parameter yang diamati meliputi gejala klinis penginfeksian, gejala klinis masa pemulihan, kelangsungan hidup dan kualitas air. Hasil riset menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan ekstrak lengkuas untuk mengobati benih ikan lele sangkuriang yang terinfeksi Aeromonas hydrophila dengan metode perendaman selama 24 jam pada konsentrasi 500 mg/L merupakan perlakuan terbaik dengan kelangsungan hidup sebesar 90%.
