Abstract

Wonogiri Regency, Central Java, is famous for its large number of residents who work as breeders, especially sheep/goat breeders. The feed for goats/sheep breeders in Wonogiri district is sourced from weeds. However, the enumeration was still done manually using a sickle, so the enumeration process was ineffective because it required more time and effort. Through this community service scheme, the process of making a machine for chopping weeds is carried out which will later be used as fodder for goats/sheep, especially in the Wonogiri area. The machine is driven by an electric motor and there is a chopping knife which is designed to be more effective. The results of this community service program show that the increase in sheep feed production increased from 200 kg/day before using the machine to 350 kg/day or an increase of up to 75% when compared to without the chopping machine.

Abstract

This research aims to design a decomposing blade, sieving system, and test machine products. The method for completing coconut fiber processing machines consists of three stages, namely the design and production process stages, as well as machine product testing. This research produces the following data, namely the design of the untangling knife which is a combination of the functions of the coir untangling knife for random and woven results. Calculation of the equilibrium moment on the shaft obtained a value of ???????????? is 28.68 N and the reaction at point A was ???????????? is 28.32 N, with the diameter of the shaft used in the coconut fiber sieving machine transmission system being Ø28 mm. Fiber uniformity is obtained from twice decomposition processes, whereas the level of fiber/powder uniformity is influenced by the long sieving process time and also the high rotational speed of the sieve.

Abstract

Guna mendukung proses pembelajaran sistem otomasi di sebuah lembaga pendidikan dibutuhkan sebuah alat peraga yang mudah dipelajari dan dimengerti oleh mahasiswa. Tujuan pembuatan alat peraga ini agar peserta didik mengetahui dan dapat mengimplementasikan proses kerja sistem otomasi di industri menggunakan media yang disimulasikan dalam bentuk alat peraga. Alat peraga yang digunakan adalah integrasi PLC-HMI pada aplikasi pengisian tangki air. Alat peraga dirangkai dengan menggunakan PLC dan HMI merk Omron dengan software CX-Programmer dan NB-Designer. Rangkaian wiring alat peraga PLC-HMI disusun secara teratur dan sistematis agar mudah dibongkar pasang dan disesuaikan dengan diagram wiring oleh peserta didik. Program ladder pada software CX-Programmer didesain dengan menerapkan logika dasar, instruksi dan beberapa fungsi program yang sesuai dengan level kompetensi dasar pembelajaran PLC. Desain tampilan dan fungsi HMI dirancang menggunakan software NB-Designer yang diintegrasikan dengan program ladder, serta disesuaikan penggunaan alamat I/O nya. Wiring alat peraga berfungsi secara normal sehingga seluruh perangkat dapat terkoneksi dengan baik. Program ladder yang telah dirancang dapat berfungsi optimal dan tidak didapati error pada hasil kompilasi. Desain HMI dapat berfungsi secara efektif untuk monitoring proses maupun saat berfungsi sebagai programmable terminal. Secara keseluruhan hasil rancang bangun alat peraga simulasi sistem pengisian tangki air telah diuji coba dan berfungsi sesuai rancangan yang telah ditetapkan.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 telah mengubah perilaku masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan, terutama dalam kebiasaan mencuci tangan. Namun, setelah pandemi berakhir, kebiasaan ini mulai berkurang, ditambah dengan terbatasnya sarana cuci tangan yang tersedia. Di Kecamatan Colomadu, masih ditemukan rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan tangan. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, tim pengabdian masyarakat menginisiasi penyediaan alat cuci tangan portabel di beberapa fasilitas umum sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya kebersihan tangan. Kegiatan ini meliputi perencanaan dan desain alat, pembuatan dan instalasi, sosialisasi kepada masyarakat, serta monitoring dan perawatan berkala. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa enam unit alat cuci tangan portabel yang dipasang di kantor kecamatan, pasar, dan puskesmas telah dimanfaatkan secara intensif oleh masyarakat, meningkatkan frekuensi kebiasaan mencuci tangan dan memperoleh apresiasi dari pemerintah setempat. Desain alat yang ergonomis dan sistem drainase yang efektif mendukung keberhasilan program ini, meskipun beberapa tantangan dalam perawatan dan koordinasi masih perlu diatasi. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran kebersihan tangan dan dapat dijadikan model untuk implementasi serupa di wilayah lain guna mencegah penyebaran penyakit menular pasca pandemi.

Abstract

The increasing demand for skilled human resources in the field of automation by the workforce has encouraged vocational education institutions to align their graduates' competencies with industry needs. Students must be equipped with up-to-date skills in line with technological advancements. Currently, the availability of technical expertise programs in vocational high schools (SMK) that include industrial automation curricula is very limited. This situation does not align with the growing industrial demand for SMK graduates with automation competencies, such as wiring and PLC programming skills. Based on these circumstances, this automation system training based on PLC was conducted as part of a community service program. The activity aimed to enhance the skillsets of vocational high school students, particularly in the machining engineering department. The training utilized PLC-based automation systems with Omron CP1E E30-DR-A controllers. The PLC logic programming was performed using CX-Programmer software. The results of the program showed that most participants could grasp the material well. Moreover, all participants gained new insights and skills in industrial automation systems, which serve as valuable support when entering the workforce.

Abstract

The sprocket is a crucial motorcycle component that transferengine rotational force to the wheels. However,  friction between the chain and gear during the operation leads to wear. This study aimed to enhancethe surface hardness of sprocket by combining  pack carburizing and shot peening. Pack carburizing was conducted by embedding the sprocket in coconut shell charcoal powder and heating it to 850°C for 60 minutes,followed by quenching in water at 30°C. Shot peening was then applied to the carburized specimen using steel ball particles for 20 minutes at a pressure of 8 bar. Hardness testing was performed according tothe ASTM 92-17 Vickers method, andmicrostructuralanalysis was conducted  using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) on the best specimen results. The hardness values for untreated, carburized, and carburized + shot peened specimens were found to be 284, 302, and 424 VHN, respectively. In this study, transverse observation of the specimen showed a carburizing layer with a depth of about 8 µm. The phenomenon was related to the increase in hardness of the carburized specimen, while the effect of shot peening for 20 minutes was about 100 µm from the surface of the specimen. This caused the hardness of the combined carburizing and shot peening specimen with a pressure of 8 bar for 20 minutes to increase hardness by about 49% compared to the non-treatment specimen. This combination significantly improved the surface hardness, potentially increasing the sprocket’s wear resistance and operational lifespan.Transverse analysis revealed an approximately 8 µmdeeo carburized layer, with the shot peening effect penetrating about 100µm from the surface. This treatment combination increased the specimen’s, suggesting a significant improvement in surface hardness, wear resistance, and overall durability of the sprocket.

Abstract

Bus is a very important transportation for all people in the world. The majority of a bus that operates still uses non-renewable fuel. The conventional bus produces exhaust emissions that can damage the environment. Current research is about changing the conventional internal combustion engine bus into an electric bus, therefore it is necessary to test the strength of the frame structure to determine its strength after changing with the electric system. The objective of this current study is to analyze the bending strength and optimization of a medium electric bus frame structure using the Finite Element Method in static conditions. Optimization will be conducted after obtaining results of bending analysis to determine the minimum weight of the bus frame structure without violating bending strength. The results of the bending analysis are stress and displacement which will be used as a constraint in the optimization process. The optimization that will be used is size optimization. The design variable is the thickness of each bus frame structure. Results show that the weight of the structure is reduced by 12% without compromising on strength and safety requirements.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the addition of montmorillonite bentonite powder on the mechanical properties and burn resistance of phenolic resin-based composites. Composite samples were made with variations in bentonite weight fractions of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. The impact test was carried out using the Izod method to determine the energy absorption and impact price, while the burn resistance was tested based on the ASTM D635 standard to determine the Time of Burning (TOB) and the Rate of Burning (ROB). The test results showed that the addition of bentonite lowered the impact price, with the highest value of 0.0082 J/mm² in the 0% fraction and the lowest of 0.0008 J/mm² in the 5% fraction. The highest absorption energy is obtained in the 10% fraction of 0.145 J. This decrease in mechanical performance is influenced by the inhomogeneous distribution of the catalyst and the presence of voids in the composite structure. In contrast, the addition of bentonite provides a significant increase in burn resistance. Composites with a fraction of 15% show the highest TOB of 20 seconds and the lowest ROB of 9.4 mm/min, indicating increased flame resistance. The mineral content of montmorillonite in bentonites, such as silica and alumina, contributes to slowing down the rate of combustion through increased material density and stable thermal properties. The results of this study show that montmorillonite bentonite powder has the potential to be used as a flame retardant additive in composite materials, but it needs to be studied further to maintain a balance between fire resistance and mechanical strength.

Abstract

This research characterizes the bending behavior of hollow square tube glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites using the roll-wrapping method. CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) and WRM (Woven Roving Mat) glass fibers were chosen as reinforcing constituents with epoxy as the matrix. Glass fiber was chosen because it has strength, stiffness, lightness, corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance. These properties can be utilized for frame and structural applications in various types of transportation equipment. The roll-wrapping technique was chosen for manufacturing GFRP composite hollow square tubes. The roll-wrapping technique is the simplest method and does not require a lot of money. The bending test using the Three Point Bending method is based on the ASTM D7264 test standard. In addition, macroscopic observations of the specimen's cross-section after experiencing a bending load are carried out to determine the product failure criteria. Bending tests were conducted on two types of GFRP composites, hollow square tube products produced from CSM and WRM fibers. The bending test results showed that the CSM fiber-reinforced composite has higher stress values (167.122 MPa) and strain (0.055%) compared to the WRM fiber-reinforced composite, which has stress values of 78.339 MPa and strain of 0.030%. The results of macro photo analysis show that random fiber composites dominate tensile failure while woven fiber composites dominate compressive failure. Failure analysis through macro photos is a critical process in determining the physical root cause of the problem

Abstract

Learning in the Measuring Instruments subject in Vocational High Schools (SMK) is still dominated by traditional methods, such as lectures and the use of printed textbooks. This results in low student engagement and difficulty in understanding technical material in a practical manner. This study aims to develop and evaluate interactive flipbook-based learning media to improve student understanding of the Measuring Instruments material in the Basics of Mechanical Engineering subject. The development model used is the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), involving a validation process by material and media experts, as well as a limited trial with 40 students. The validation results showed that the material aspect achieved a feasibility score of 91.32%, while the media and design aspects achieved 94.31%. Meanwhile, student responses to the media showed an average score of 82.29%, which is categorized as very valid. This flipbook media integrates text, images, and attractive visual design, thus facilitating student understanding in a more concrete and enjoyable way.
