Abstract

High definition technology development in the entertainment industry, especially film industry, has produce classic problem about format consensus in the media industry. This situation eventually creates the so called war of format between the two most popular high definition formats, the Blu-ray from Sony/Hitachi and the HD DVD from Toshiba. Unlike the war of format before, for example is VHS versus Betamax war, that determinated mostly by the consumer, the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD is strongly affect by the abilities of the companies behind the two format to consentrate and integrate their business moghul and also to make alliance between competitiors. Concentration of ownership is appears in the trend of holywood studios to merge with the bigger studios, which is creates a few conglomeration in the movie business. Integrations of business could be seen from the owners of the big studios that not only have the studios, but also many other business that relate or not with the entertainment business. And least, the alliance could be seen from this big studios alliance to support one of the format.Initially the HD DVD was on the fruitfull position because has been back up by the studios like Warner Bros, Paramount, and Universal that have more market share in US that the studios that support Blu-ray format, which is Sony, Walt Disneym and 20th Century Fox. Fortunately for Blu-ray, Sony already sells millions of PS 3 console that ingeniously could read Blu-ray disk; this means there s already millions of Blu-ray reader device in the hand of consument, something that Toshiba could not generate. In the end, the victory of Blu-ray format is accelerate by the switching side of Warner Brothers studio to the Blu-ray follow by the others big studios.Conclusively, the success of a new technology, especially the media industry, is sometimes not depends on the quality of the technology itself. Often, the success is determined by the availability of the industries that support the technology. The war of format between HD DVD and Blu-ray definitely show the determination of media industry in the development of new technology.

Abstract

Early childhood education starts to growth in Indonesia since the beginning of year 2000. This system growth and change is not only due to the change of parents lifestyle in the contemporary age that asks both husband and wife to works, it s also develop because of the change in values that people have to educate their children. Indonesian people in the contemporary age eventually view the new system permissively and rationalize it as inevitable consequences of modern world. The system is also growth so rational that finally all traditional system in the formal, theoretical, practical, and substantial aspect was left to be change by the new system. This article is trying to comprehend how this hyperrationalization in early childhood education develop in Indonesia.

Abstract

Central Java BKKBN (Badan Koordinasi Keluarga Berencana Nasional) main objectives is to facilitate government policy in population control. To achieve this objective, BKKBN should treat man and woman in a same respectful way because both have the same contribution to population control. Unfortunately some of their Public Service Announcement (PSA) did not show this emancipation. One of their PSA show only a young woman with her baby, delivering a subtle message that young woman is responsible for early marriage. By using Fairclough s Discourse Analysis, we found that BKKBN Central Java unconsciously construct a discourse through their PSA that young woman not only become the most unbenefited side in the early marriage, but also the most responsible for the marriage.

Abstract

This study aims to know how symbolic interaction process happens to the deaf students who study in SD Maranatha 01 public school. Communication built by the deaf students to the teachers and other students who have good hearing will influence the changing of meaning and behavior. That's why the author is interested to analyze the symbolic interaction of the deaf students in public school, how the role of the teachers and other students in dealing with the deaf students to take their action and to adapt themselves in public school. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative conducted using observation, and interview techniques. The foundation used in this study is the theory of Symbolic Interactionism of George Herbert Mead. The conclusion of this research is; the behavior and symbolic formation happening to the deaf students of SD Maranatha 01 are influenced by the social process.

Abstract

Banyak konten media sosial berbahasa Indonesia yang sangat buruk dalam menggambarkan profil dari Ataturk. Tokoh ini tidak hanya digambarkan bersebarangan dengan Islam namun juga memiliki ajal yang penuh dengan azab. Menariknya hal yang berkebalikan terjadi pada masyarakat Turki itu sendiri. Disana tokoh Ataturk sangat dipuja dan tempatkan secara terhormat sebagai pendiri sekaligus penyelamat bangsa Turki dari penjajahan barat. Hal ini akhirnya menimbulkan suatu pertanyaan penelitian menarik mengenai bagaimanakah semiotika dari konten demonisasi Ataturk yang ada di Indonesia. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan model semiotika Danesi dan menemukan bahwa terdapat tiga narasi utama. Pertama Ataturk dinarasikan sebagai tokoh yang sangat buruk karena membubarkan Kekhalifahan Utsmaniyah. Kedua, Ataturk mengalami azab saat kematiannya (sakratul maut) hingga saat ia dikuburkan sampai saat ini. Ketiga, Ataturk adalah antitesa dari tokoh-tokoh Islamis seperti Presiden Erdogan. Keempat, Ataturk adalah penjelmaan dari Firaun pada masa modern. Selain itu konten-konten yang diteliti juga mempropagasikan mitos mengenai ideologi khilafah yang dapat di jabarkan dalam tiga poin. Pertama, keyakinan bahwa khilafah wajib di dirikan. Kedua, keyakinan bahwa khilafah adalah jalan keluar bagi semua permasalah umat. Ketiga, keyakinan bahwa upaya mendirikan kekhalifahan adalah upaya yang realistis.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan komptensi pelaku UMKM di Kelurahan Gebangsari, Semarang. Era perkembangan teknologi digital yang terus maju tak terbendung ini, aktivitas mempromosikan brand atau melakukan marketing campaign dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai macam cara dan kreativitas sesuai kadar kebutuhan dan kemampuan mereka. Terlebih disaat ini di berbagai media massa bebas tanpa batas sebagai media periklanan, salah satunya adalah media social/Cyber seperti WhatsApp, Facebook, Email, Youtube dan masih banyak aplikasi lain, semua ini sebagai sarana promosi dengan berbagai konten sebagai ajang iklan geratis guna meningkatkan penjualan produk mereka. Dengan demikian, tantangan pemasar saat ini adalah menentukan bentuk konten yang paling efektif berdasarkan sasaran konsumen. Dan salah satu bentuk konten yang kini sedang digemari adalah video iklan singkat dengan komunikasi sederhana dan tak sedikit pula video iklan di media Cyber viral karena sentuhan kreatifitas. UMKM Kelurahan Gebangsari, Kecamatan Genuk Semarang merupakan salah satu wilayah dengan jumlah pelaku usaha yang cukup banyak di kota Semarang. Untuk meningkatkan penjualan maka pelaku usaha membutuhkan strategi pemasaran yang efektif melalui media massa Cyber untuk dapat meningkatkan target penjualan produk mereka.

Abstract

Instagram utilization is able to meet followers’ information needs, provide both social and commercial benefits for users, and serve as a medium to attract public interest in better understanding the user or content provider. In the field of education, Instagram can also be used for various purposes such as learning media and promotional tools. SMK Walisongo Semarang, the partner in this community service program, already manages two Instagram accounts: @smkwalisongoofficial and @osis_skawas. The @smkwalisongoofficial account is managed by teachers and staff, while @osis_skawas is managed by student council (OSIS) members. The focus of this program is the @osis_skawas account, which was created in 2023 and currently has 93 posts and 170 followers. Unfortunately, within approximately two years, the account has only published that number of posts, consisting of 81 photos with captions and 12 reels. According to one of the community service team members, the account’s content has remained limited and monotonous since last year, indicating low activity and lack of development from the administrators. Based on interviews with the Vice Principal of Student Affairs, the administrators faced challenges in content creation, both technically and in terms of ideas. Through lecture, discussion, and hands-on practice methods, this training had a positive impact on the students of SMK Walisongo Semarang. Knowledge and skills related to the types of content, ways to create and edit, motivation enhancement, and effective content creation strategies were provided to the target audience, enabling them to understand how to increase engagement in each post. In addition, the use of CapCut in video production was also discussed, equipping them with sufficient skills to edit videos and develop the @osis_skawas account.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing representation of social conflicts and ethnic identities in Indonesian cinema, which often portrays particular stereotypes toward certain social groups. Pengepungan di Bukit Duri (2025), directed by Joko Anwar, was selected as the object of this research because it depicts open acts of violence committed by the indigenous majority against the Chinese ethnic community, while also illustrating the ideological repositioning of the majority group within national cinema. The main problem of this research is how the film represents power, identity, and violence through a system of visual signs. The purpose of this study is to interpret how the film constructs representations of power, identity, and violence through visual semiotic systems, and to emphasize the importance of understanding cinema as an ideological space that shapes Indonesian society’s perceptions of the relationship between majority and minority groups. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive design, using Roland Barthes’s semiotic approach combined with Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of symbolic power. The analysis is conducted interpretatively on gestures, facial expressions, lighting, camera composition, and visual symbols appearing in key scenes. The results show that the film portrays the indigenous majority as perpetrators of violence in a way that normalizes symbolic domination through visual narrative. Elements such as dark lighting, low-angle shots, and graffiti symbols are used to reinforce the ideological opposition between majority and minority groups. The myth analysis reveals that the film constructs an ideology of violence as an inherent trait of the indigenous population, thereby potentially strengthening social stereotypes. Thus, Pengepungan di Bukit Duri functions not only as a cinematic work but also as a cultural text that articulates and reinforces the ideology of power in contemporary Indonesian society.

Abstract

Permasalaham yang dialami anggota  UMKM di Kampung Batik Durenan  Indah Semarang, kekurang pahaman tentang bagaimana teknik fotografi produk yang menarik sehingga kemampuan fotografi untuk komunikasi pemasaran digital cukup rendah. Tujuan melakukan pengabdian ini mengajarkan ketrampilan fotografi produk. Metode  pengabdian ini menggunakan partisipatif dengan langkah awal Pre test dilakukan untuk mengukur seperapa paham peserta tentang fotografi, selanjutnya penyampaian materi dilakukan oleh beberapa kepakaran dalam bidang fotografi, dan dilanjutkan diskusi. Setelah sesi diskusi, kegiatan selanjutnya adalah praktik oleh masing-masing kelompok didampingi tim pengabdian dalam fotografi produk. Dan terakhir post test. Hasilnya dari pengabdian ini anggota UMKM Kampung Batik Durenan Indah Semarang memiliki  kemampuan fotografi produk, berupa pengetahuan dan ketrampilan, baik secara teoritis maupun praktis mengenai cara fotografi produk  yang baik dan benar. Ketrampilan yang diperoleh dapat menjadi bekal para anggota UMKM Kampung Durenan Batik  bisa memanfaatkan fotografi produk sebagai strategi komunikasi pemasaran.
