Abstract

Science learning outcomes such as science process skills andattitudes toward science are still important issues in science education. Inthis study the researchers tried to get a picture of the students' learningoutcomes to get input on the learning process of science in the coastal area.As an initial study of the development of maritime-based contextual sciencelearning media, the purpose of this research is to know the extent of scienceprocess skill level, attitude toward science, and academic achievement ofstudents in coastal area. There were 114 students of the 8th grade of fourlower secondary schools in Merbau Island participated as respondents in thisstudy. Instruments used in data collection are science process skills tests andattitude toward science questionnaires for lower secondary school students. The results showed that 8th grade lower secondary school students inMerbau Island had high attitude toward science. On the contrary, the scienceprocess skills and academic achievement of their science are relatively low.

Abstract

Based on the results of a needs analysis conducted by researchers on class VIII students at SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru regarding their perceptions of science learning at school, it is known that almost all class VIII students do not understand science lessons. This is due to the use of conventional teaching methods without the help of learning media. One of the facilities that is available and can be used is PhET Simulation. This research aims to determine the cognitive learning outcomes of physics science for class VIII students through the application of the PDEODE learning model assisted by PhET Simulation. This research uses a quantitative approach using experimental methods. The population of this research was class VIII students at SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru. Instruments and data collection techniques include posttest. Data analysis includes descriptive analysis with a focus on average student cognitive learning outcomes, as well as inferential analysis through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The research results show that the application of the PDEODE learning model with the support of PhET Simulation causes an increase in students' cognitive learning outcomes in physics subjects.

Abstract

The problem found from interviews with physics teachers at SMAN 1 Gaung who said that students' understanding of physics material was still low. This is due to the use of learning models that have not been varied so that students' understanding of physics concepts is still low. Efforts to improve students' concept understanding can be applied through learning using the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach. This study aims to improve students' concept understanding. The type of research used is quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung. The samples used were XI MIPA 1 class as the experimental class and XI MIPA 2 class as the control class taken by random sampling which had gone through normality and homogeneity tests. Data were determined through tests that were prepared based on seven indicators of concept understanding. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially to determine the category of explanation of students' concept understanding. The research results obtained from the N-gain test score in the experimental class amounted to 0.7 and the control class amounted to 0.3. The score results show that the understanding of the concept of experimental class students is higher than the control class. This research can be concluded that the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach can improve the understanding of the concept of students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the extent to which the development of learning videos using Edpuzzle based on Problem Based Learning is needed. The research method used is a survey method where the researcher collects data on the analysis of the needs of teachers and students as well as data on student characteristics through the distribution of questionnaires. Needs analysis data were obtained from 28 teachers and 79 students while student characteristics data were obtained from 93 students in the Riau province education office. Based on the results of the needs analysis, namely from the aspect of the subject, object, process, and learning media, there are 81.3% of teachers in the very high category and 70.1% of students in the high category stating that the development of learning videos using Edpuzzle based Problem Based Learning needs to be done to improve students' critical thinking skills on direct current circuit material. Meanwhile, based on the results of the analysis of student characteristics, 64.6% of students stated that the need for developing learning videos using Edpuzzle based Problem Based Learning to improve students' critical thinking skills was in the high category, so that the development of learning videos using Edpuzzle based Problem Based Learning to improve students' critical thinking skills at direct current circuit material can be done.
