Abstract

Aceh, a post-conflict region in Indonesia, continues to face challenges in fostering social cohesion and reconciliation through education. Despite its crucial role in peacebuilding, peace education remains insufficiently integrated into the formal curriculum. This study investigated the systematic incorporation of peace education within the junior high school Social Studies curriculum in Aceh through a Research and Development (R&D) design. The research consisted of three phases: (1) curriculum mapping to identify opportunities for peace-related themes, (2) development of a structured peace education module, and (3) evaluation of its effectiveness through classroom observations, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and pre- and post-tests involving 70 students and 9 teachers in Pidie Regency. Findings showed that values such as tolerance, mediation, and conflict resolution are implicitly present in existing materials but lack structured pedagogical integration. The developed module, validated by experts and teachers, significantly improved students’ understanding of peace concepts, empathy, and conflict resolution skills. Embedding peace education into existing curricula, rather than introducing it as a separate subject, proved more sustainable and contextually effective. The study highlighted the importance of comprehensive teacher training and supportive policy frameworks to enable large-scale implementation, this research supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 and SDG 16), advancing quality education, peace, and strong institutions. The model offers a scalable framework for integrating peace education into Social Studies curricula in other post-conflict regions.

Abstract

Indonesia is comprised of diverse tribes, languages, and faiths. While this diversity enhances societal resilience, it also presents obstacles in terms of interreligious and cultural exchanges. The study aims to assess the comprehension and implementation of religious moderation among students at State High School 2 and Madrasah Aliyah State (MAN) Tanjungpinang. The study employs exploratory quantitative methodologies by gathering data using questionnaires that contain statements pertaining to interreligious and multiracial tolerance. The data obtained from the questionnaire is subjected to statistical analysis in order to determine the distribution of replies and to discover any significant differences between the two groups of pupils. Furthermore, in-depth interviews were carried out to offer supplementary background. The findings revealed substantial disparities in students' comprehension and perspectives regarding religious moderation. MAN students exhibit a greater inclination towards inclusivity and acceptance of diversity compared to SMAN 2 pupils. The study determined that the educational setting and the school atmosphere had a significant impact on influencing students' views and behaviors towards ethnic and religious diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze strategies for strengthening the values of religious moderation through a multicultural education approach. Religious moderation is viewed as a crucial effort to maintain social harmony within a pluralistic society, while multicultural education serves as an effective medium to systematically instill these values in students from an early age. This research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through an extensive review of relevant literature, including books, peer-reviewed journals, educational policy documents, and reports from educational institutions. The findings reveal that the reinforcement of moderation values can be achieved through the integration of tolerance and diversity into the curriculum, strengthening the role of teachers as agents of change and facilitators of inclusion, and fostering a school culture that embraces differences. However, the implementation process faces several challenges, such as ideological resistance rooted in exclusive religious interpretations, structural limitations within the education system, and cultural resistance from communities. On the other hand, opportunities arise from supportive government policies, curriculum flexibility, active involvement of civil society, and the strategic use of technology to promote the values of religious moderation

The results of the study show that the democratic parenting style adopted by Christian families is the most effective approach in fostering values of tolerance because it encourages open communication. children's participation, and empathy for differences. Meanwhile, authoritarian parenting tends to hinder the formation of tolerant attitudes because it emphasizes obedience without space for dialogue. Obstacles identified in the parenting process include limited understanding of diversity, lack of tolerance in the surrounding environment, and lack of space for children to actively develop empathy.
