Abstract

Paper is a material with various daily applications, as a medium for writing, printing, drawing, wrapping, etc. Although in the digital era the role of paper is increasingly minimal, it cannot be denied that the use of paper continues. Besides being useful, paper also leaves a problematic side when it becomes waste. Paper waste that is tried to be eliminated by burning will cause air pollution in the form of disturbing and dangerous smelling smoke, especially in large and continuous volumes. Recycling paper waste is important in order to prevent and minimize environmental damage due to inappropriate handling. The process of recycling paper aims to process paper waste into "new" paper that can be reused and has a selling value. By utilizing household equipment that is generally available at home, this training activity is carried out through simple traditional methods, namely soaking, blending, to the process of filtering paper pulp and drying. The training was carried out on 45 students of SMK N 1 Trucuk, Klaten. This training produces practical solutions for dealing with paper waste while providing basic provisions for students to be able to recycle used paper, so that the implementation of creativity in the future is useful. With the uniqueness of the visuals of paper that is made artistically, it can also be applied as a material in making handicraft products that have sales value.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sahabat Petani Porang Sukoharjo (SPPS) is a productive partner engaged in the field of porang and its derivative products. SPPS has successfully processed porang tubers into glucomannan which has added value and potential. However, demand for glucomannan is still low, resulting in a lot of glucomannan being unsold. A community service team from Veteran Bangun Nusantara University, through the Community Partnership Empowerment (PKM) scheme, took the initiative to develop the downstream processing of glucomannan into healthy, low-gluten instant noodles. The main objective of this PKM activity is to be able to develop a derivative product of porang glucomannan in the form of healthy instant noodles. The problem aspect addressed by the community service team is the production aspect of healthy instant noodles. The solution provided is training in making healthy instant noodles, with the hope that SPPS will experience increased product diversity. The stages undertaken by the community service team include socialization and training accompanied by the application of technology and innovation. The results of the PKM activity are an increase in understanding of how to make healthy instant noodles by 80% and an increase in healthy instant noodle making skills by 40%. The resulting product is a healthy, low-gluten instant noodle. Future plans include intensive and regular mentoring for the production and marketing of healthy instant noodles. Abstract

ABSTRACT Vector-borne diseases, particularly mosquitoes like Aedes aegypti, remain a serious public health issue in Indonesia. One environmentally friendly solution is the use of mosquito-repellent plants such as citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), which contains active compounds such as citronellal and geraniol, which have been proven effective as natural repellents. This community service program aims to provide training to residents on how to make mosquito repellent spray from citronella, while also encouraging the potential for home-based businesses based on natural ingredients. The implementation method includes counseling, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in spray making. The results showed that participants experienced an increase in their understanding of dengue fever by 30%, the benefits of citronella by 33%, extraction skills by 55%, spray formulation by 57%, and packaging by 40%. This activity also succeeded in fostering entrepreneurial interest among participants. Thus, this training not only provides a preventive solution to vector-borne diseases but also opens up opportunities for economic growth based on local potential.   Keywords: Vector-borne diseases, Citronella-based repellent, Community empowerment

Abstract

Farmers are the majority of jobs of Indonesian people, including porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district. The existence of porang farmers has begun to be shaken in recent times due to quite extreme climate change, so it is feared that in addition to affecting the production of porang farmers, it will also have an impact on the food security of porang farmer households in the Surakarta buffer district. This study aimed to determine the food security level of porang farmer households in the three Surakarta buffer districts: Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, and Karanganyar. Food security analysis is a cross between the share of food expenditure and the caloric adequacy percentage, analyzed using the Jonsson and Toole cross-classification method. The analysis showed that based on the value of the share of food expenditure, 88% of porang farmers were in a food-secure condition, and the remaining 12% were in a food-insecure condition. The average portion of porang farmers' food expenditure was 40.36%. The results of the AKE calculation show that porang farmers consume energy of 2,937 kcal/capita /day. Based on Jonsson and Toole's cross-classification, about 76% of porang farmers are in the food secure category, 12% are in the food vulnerable category, and the remaining 12% are in the food less secure category; no farmers are in the food insecure category. This study's findings are crucial as they demonstrate that despite climate variability and fluctuating price changes, porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district are classified as food-secure.
