Abstract

Abstract

The high productivity of food crops that occurs in Java Island certainly cannot be separated from the existing rainfall. The availability of water that meets the needs of rice and corn plants will certainly allow plants to grow and develop optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between rainfall and food crop productivity in Java Island. This study is a descriptive analytical study using secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency from 2015-2014. The selection of the Java Island research location is because this region contributes more than 50% of the national rice and corn production supply. The data analysis method used is the Pearson correlation. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the highest average rice productivity is owned by West Java Province with a rice productivity achievement of 58.64 quintals per hectare, while the highest corn productivity achievement occurred in the same location with an average of 76.58 quintals per hectare. Based on the results of the study, it was also found that there is a relationship between rainfall and rice and corn productivity in Java Island. This is indicated by the significance value of both being less than the alpha value of 5%. In addition, the relationship between rainfall and rice productivity is in the moderate category, while the relationship between rainfall and corn productivity is in the low category. Abstract

Lifestyle and health issues are important indicators in consuming food, especially organic rice. It is no wonder that the demand for organic rice has increased alongside the development of the era. The organic polemic is also one of the things that consumers consider in buying rice. This also happens in the Banyumas community, which has a group of farmers who cultivate organic rice. This research aims to see how significant the contribution of organic rice produced by farmers in Banyumas is and to provide recommendations in the form of introducing a business model for a communal integration system between organic rice farmers. The method used for analysis in this research is the descriptive statistics and contribution analysis. This research was conducted in Kalisube Village and Dawuhan Village in Banyumas District. The data used is on land area, rice production, and conversion to organic rice production. Using contribution analysis helps  to determine the significance of the assumed demand for organic rice in the long term when all people consume organic rice. Based on the research results, it was found that the contribution of organic rice in Dawuhan Village was greater than in Kalisube Village. The research results also state that when 15 percent of Banyumas people consume organic rice, there will be a shortage in meeting the demand for organic rice. Communal system business model is a step in solving the problem with shortage. The combination of cooperation and interaction between organic rice farmers in Banyumas Regency is essential to meet the demand for organic rice in the community.

Abstract

Farmers are the majority of jobs of Indonesian people, including porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district. The existence of porang farmers has begun to be shaken in recent times due to quite extreme climate change, so it is feared that in addition to affecting the production of porang farmers, it will also have an impact on the food security of porang farmer households in the Surakarta buffer district. This study aimed to determine the food security level of porang farmer households in the three Surakarta buffer districts: Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, and Karanganyar. Food security analysis is a cross between the share of food expenditure and the caloric adequacy percentage, analyzed using the Jonsson and Toole cross-classification method. The analysis showed that based on the value of the share of food expenditure, 88% of porang farmers were in a food-secure condition, and the remaining 12% were in a food-insecure condition. The average portion of porang farmers' food expenditure was 40.36%. The results of the AKE calculation show that porang farmers consume energy of 2,937 kcal/capita /day. Based on Jonsson and Toole's cross-classification, about 76% of porang farmers are in the food secure category, 12% are in the food vulnerable category, and the remaining 12% are in the food less secure category; no farmers are in the food insecure category. This study's findings are crucial as they demonstrate that despite climate variability and fluctuating price changes, porang farmers in the Surakarta buffer district are classified as food-secure.
