Abstract

The formation of quality human resources (HR) is influenced by many factors, one of which is about the quality of health of young people at the best level. Borax is a chemical compound derived from heavy metals boron (B). Borax is an anti-septic and bacterial killer. In Regulation of the Minister of Health No. 722 / MenKes / Per / IX / 88 borax is stated as a hazardous material and is prohibited to be used in making food. Bulusidokare Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Subdistrict, is an area that is close to learning environments such as schools and Tutoring, so that it is vulnerable to foods that contain hazardous Food Additives (FA). Therefore, it is necessary to provide counseling training to housewives about the dangers of borax to health and how to analyze the content of borax in a simple and inexpensive way. The test material used is turmeric and toothpicks. While the samples to be tested are pentol, sausage, tofu, and borax. Borax is a FA which is very dangerous for health, the highest dose limit of 10-20 gr / kg of adult bodys weight and 5 gr / kg of body weight of children will cause poisoning and even death. Food ingredients that contain borax experience discoloration on toothpicks that have been soaked in turmeric solution which is red. The method of analyzing the content of borax using turmeric is a simple and inexpensive method because it uses ingredients that are always available at home, and the method of analyzing the content of borax using turmeric can be applied to food ingredients with soft texture.

Abstract

Tambak Cemandi Village is an area located in the coastal area of Sidoarjo Regency because it is the easternmost region and is directly adjacent to the Java Sea. The geographical location adjacent to sea water is a benefit for the people of Tambak Cemandi Village to look for livelihoods as fishermen. In their work, fishermen are divided into several activities, there are those who go out to sea to fish and some who dive specifically to look for shellfish. The shells meat is taken for further processing, while the clamshell is thrown away. This causes the accumulation of shells waste around the residential areas so that makes a dirty views and a negative impact on the health of residents and the surrounding environment. Some steps have been taken to reduce the waste, among others, as a backfilling of the street yard, but when the rainy season comes, a pile of shell produces an unpleasant odor that invites swarms of rats and insects that can cause various digestive diseases. In addition, this thing also has a negative impact on the planned formation of the Sidoarjo coastal area into a fishing tourism area and river comb tourism. On the other hand, the shell contain high calcium so that they can be used as animal feed. One of the community service agendas carried out to overcome the problem of shell waste is to use it as animal feed ingredients. In this case, the type of poultry such as layer hens, layer ducks and broilers. The approach method used is training and workshop on processing shells to become ready-to-eat animal feed.

Abstract

The increasing awareness of sustainable development goals has led to the intensive development of biofuel as a substitute for fossil fuels. This study investigates the potency of volcano mud (VM) as the precursor in synthesizing aluminosilicate catalysts for biofuel production. Three catalysts were synthesized, A3, A3T, and A5, in a manner to investigate the effect of tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) addition and hydrothermal time on the crystallinity, Si/Al ratio, and textural properties of the catalysts. The catalytic activity of the synthesized catalysts was evaluated in two different qualities of feedstock, i.e., oleic acid (OA) and waste cooking oil (WCO). It is found that A5 which is synthesized with longer hydrothermal of 5 h has desirable properties, a high mesoporous surface area of 159 m2/g, and a high acidity of 0.263 mmol/g. Catalyst A5 is proven to have similarly high catalytic activity in both WCO and OA feedstock, achieving a liquid yield of 93% with FAME selectivity of 95% for WCO and 95% liquid yield and FAME selectivity of 99% for OA feedstock. These results suggest that A5 is a versatile catalyst in biofuel production from either high or low-quality feedstocks.

Abstract

Global warming, driven in part by livestock manure emissions, poses a major environmental challenge. Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) offers a waste-to-energy solution by converting solid cow manure into an energy source. This study investigated the impact of Bacillus sp. inoculation on the biodrying process of cow dung. The main challenge in processing cow manure into RDF is ensuring that the moisture content and calorific value meet the minimum RDF standards. Therefore, a biodrying process was carried out on cow manure to achieve these required standards. Biodrying performance was assessed based on drying time, moisture content, pH, and calorific value. The results show that inoculation with Bacillus sp.. The results showed that inoculation with Bacillus sp. at 10⁶ log cfu ml⁻¹ kg⁻¹ yielded the most efficient outcome, achieving the fastest drying time (12 days), lowest moisture content (9.64%), optimal pH (7.8), and highest calorific value (2,656.5 kcal/kg). These findings confirm a direct link between moisture reduction and calorific improvement. Hence, bio-dried cow dung treated with inoculation of Bacillus sp. 106 log cfu ml-1 Kg-1 is recommended as a viable RDF material.
