Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding rates in Indonesia remain below national and global targets, with a substantial proportion of postpartum mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties, particularly among primiparous women. Inadequate breastfeeding technique is a major contributing factor, often resulting from limited experience, insufficient education, and lack of hands-on guidance during the early postpartum period. These challenges may compromise breastfeeding success, maternal confidence, and infant nutrition outcomes. This study aimed to examine the effect of structured breastfeeding technique education on breastfeeding success among primiparous postpartum mothers. A quantitative pre-experimental study with a onegroup pretest–posttest design was conducted at RSUD dr. Sayidiman Magetan. Forty primiparous postpartum mothers were recruited using non-probability sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. The intervention consisted of structured breastfeeding technique education delivered by trained midwives through direct explanation, visual leaflets, practical demonstrations, and interactive discussion sessions. Breastfeeding success was assessed before and after the intervention using the LATCH scoring system, which evaluates latch, audible swallowing, nipple type, maternal comfort, and infant positioning. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in breastfeeding success following the educational intervention (Z = −5.35, p < 0.005), with a large effect size (r = 0.85). Prior to education, 75% of mothers were classified in the “not successful” category, while none achieved a “good” score. After the intervention, 70% of participants attained good breastfeeding success, and the proportion of mothers with inadequate scores decreased to 2.5%. Improvements were consistently observed across all LATCH components. In conclusion, structured breastfeeding technique education significantly enhances breastfeeding success among primiparous postpartum mothers. Integrating systematic, hands-on breastfeeding education into routine postnatal care is strongly recommended to promote effective breastfeeding practices and support exclusive breastfeeding goals.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) during pregnancy is a significant public health concern with long-term effects on maternal and child health. The study explores the impact of maternal CED on stunting in children aged 24-59 months in Ngariboyo Public Health Center, where the prevalence of CED among pregnant women was 11.01% in 2023, and stunting affected 8.2% of children. The primary aim of this study is to determine the relationship between maternal CED and the incidence of stunting in the target population. Employing an analytical observational approach, this case-control study included 32 children with stunting as the case group and 64 non-stunted children as the control group, selected through random sampling methods. Data on maternal CED were obtained from maternal and child health records, while stunting data were gathered via questionnaires. The analysis utilized chi-square and Mantel-Haenszel common odds ratio tests to evaluate the association. The results indicated a significant association (p=0.021) between maternal CED and stunting, with an odds ratio of 3.201, suggesting that mothers with CED have a 3.2 times higher risk of giving birth to stunted children compared to mothers without CED. The study concludes that maternal CED is a crucial factor contributing to stunting in children. Therefore, interventionssuch as early identification and nutritional education for pregnant women are essential for stunting prevention. The findings emphasize the need for targeted public health policies to address maternal nutrition in rural settings.

Abstract

The development of the health sector, as part of national development, is directed toward improving the quality of human resources. One of the indicators of successful health development is the reduction of infant mortality rates and the improvement of community nutritional status. Optimal nutritional status can only be achieved when good nutritional practices are implemented at every stage of life, including during infancy . Failures in breastfeeding often stem from a lack of information. The study by Ambarwati, Setiyani, and Usnawati (2017) indicates that breastfeeding discussion classes can improve breastfeeding practices among breastfeeding mothers (Ambarwati, Setiyani, and Usnawati, 2017). Parents’ Education has also been shown to be effective in improving the knowledge and attitudes of primigravida couples regarding exclusive breastfeeding. Efforts to enhance knowledge and attitudes toward exclusive breastfeeding must be continuously strengthened and followed by an evaluation of exclusive breastfeeding practices (Usnawati, 2017). Based on these findings, it is necessary to establish a Breastfeeding Support Group (KP-ASI) and implement breastfeeding assistance programs. The establishment of KP-ASI and the breastfeeding assistance program will be carried out through the following strategies: Phase 1: Issuance of an official request letter from Sumberdodol Village for the formation of a breastfeeding support group. Educational materials will be provided to third-trimester pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Phase 2: Delivery of educational materials to Posyandu cadres, third-trimester pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. The training session will be conducted once. The education session in the village is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Phase 3: Developing a meeting plan and activity schedule for the members and committee of the Breastfeeding Support Group (KP-ASI) for the following month.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is the cause of non-obstetric medical complications in pregnancy that occurs over a long period of time. The Providing Additional Food (PAF) program for vulnerable pregnant women is a supplementation strategy in overcoming nutritional problems, but the program has not been able to run well, based on observations made and also interviews with officers, it is known that some pregnant women have not been regular in consuming PAF biscuits. Researchers want to know the effect of implementing the PAF consumption compliance card on the level of compliance of CED pregnant women at the North Ponorogo Community Health Center. Methods: This study uses an experimental research method. The research design with a pre-experimental approach is in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was taken using the total population sampling technique. The independent variable in this study was the implementation of the PAF consumption compliance card while the dependent variable was the level of compliance of CED pregnant women consuming PAF. Data collection uses interviews and obedient cards as instruments. Data analysis was carried out by normality test and the result of a p value of > 0.05 could be carried out, then the Paired Sample t-Test could be carried out to find out if there was a difference. Results: The results of the Paired samples t-test showed that there was a difference in the compliance of CED pregnant women before and after being given an obedience card, which can be seen at the value of p = 0.0001473. Conclusions: It can be concluded that compliance cards have proven effective in increasing the compliance of CED pregnant women in consuming PAF. Therefore, it is recommended to implement compliance cards as a reminder and monitor for pregnant women regarding PAF consumption.

Abstract

Background: Dengue fever remains a major public health concern in tropical regions, including Indonesia. Household-level knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) play a critical role in sustainable vector control. This study aimed to compare KAP regarding dengue prevention among household heads in high- and low-incidence areas in Magetan Regency, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted among 785 household heads selected using stratified random sampling. A total of 390 respondents were recruited from high-incidence areas (≥11 cases/year) and 395 from low-incidence areas (≤10 cases/year). Data were collected using a validated and reliable structured questionnaire measuring knowledge (45 items), attitudes (18 items), and practices (25 items). Spearman rank correlation was used to examine associations between sociodemographic factors and KAP scores, and the Mann–Whitney U test was applied to compare differences between groups. Results: Knowledge and attitude scores did not differ significantly between high- and low-incidence areas (p > 0.05). However, prevention practice scores were significantly higher in high-incidence areas (Mean = 15.51; SD = 4.37) compared to low-incidence areas (Mean = 12.94; SD = 5.91; p < 0.001). Age was positively associated with attitudes and practices in both areas, while education level was significantly correlated with knowledge. Employment status was associated with prevention practices, whereas gender showed no significant association with KAP. Conclusions: Dengue prevention practices were stronger in high-incidence areas, suggesting that direct exposure to disease risk influences behavioral responses more than knowledge alone. Strengthening community empowerment and behavior-focused interventions is essential, particularly in low-incidence areas, to enhance preparedness and prevent future outbreaks.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition where the number of red blood cells or the capacity of red blood cells to carry oxygen is not sufficient to meet physiological needs. Factors that influence anemia are nutritional patterns where poor eating habits can cause iron deficiency. Lack of awareness or compliance with the consumption of blood supplement tablets can also predispose someone to anemia. The Health Belief Model (HBM) is a health behavior model that is used to predict behavior. HBM consists of perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived severity, perceived self-efficacy and cues to action. The aim of this research is to determine the factors that influence the behavior of consuming nutrition and blood supplement tablets to prevent anemia in bridesmaids in Religious Affairs Office (KUA), Maospati District, Magetan Regency in 2024. Method: This is an observational analytical quantitative research with a sample of 31 prospective brides and grooms at religious affairs office Maospati in 2024. This research was measured using a health belief model questionnaire by distributing questionnaires to prospective brides and grooms. Data analysis uses primary data which is tested with descriptive analysis, classical assumption tests and linear regression tests. Results: Of the 6 behavioral factors studied include perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, perceived severity, perceived self-efficacy and cues to action, which is only perceived self-efficacy with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: The factors that influence the behavior of consuming nutrition and blood supplement tablets among prospective brides at the Maospati religious affaris office, only self-efficacy has an influence. Therefore, perceived self-efficacy needs to be prioritized.

Abstract

Background: Obesity and a short interpregnancy interval (<24 months) are risk factors that may increase maternal and perinatal complications. Obesity is associated with a higher risk of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and operative delivery, while a short interpregnancy interval increases the risk of anemia, preterm birth, and low birth weight. The combination of these factors classifies the pregnancy as high risk and requires comprehensive midwifery care. Objective: To describe the implementation of midwifery care for a pregnant woman with obesity and a short interpregnancy interval using a standardized midwifery management approach. Methods: This case report was conducted on Mrs. I, a 25-year-old G2P1A0 woman at 29 weeks of gestation with obesity and an interpregnancy interval of 17 months. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, obstetric examinations, and documentation studies. Midwifery care was provided and documented using the SOAP method. Conclusion: The assessment showed a maternal BMI of 32.2 kg/m² and an interpregnancy interval of 17 months. Comprehensive and continuous midwifery care helped maintain favorable maternal and fetal conditions until delivery and improved the mother's readiness to use postpartum contraception.
