Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the impact of the Discovery Learning model using interactive PhET simulations on students' interest and learning outcomes at SMPN 1 Siatas Barita, particularly in the subject of Vibrations and Waves. PhET simulations incorporate animated and interactive elements, designed akin to games to facilitate exploratory learning for students. The research employed a Quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design, where class VIII-1 served as the experimental group and class VIII-2 as the control group. The instruments utilized included learning tools, written tests, and questionnaires for data collection. Data analysis was conducted through hypothesis testing using Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The results revealed a significant influence of the Discovery Learning model assisted by PhET simulation on students' interest and learning outcomes in Vibrations and Waves at SMPN 1 Siatas Barita. Homogeneity analysis of the variance/covariance matrix indicated no variance matrix differences in the interest and learning outcomes of students between classes VIII-1 and VIII-2. The multivariate test results showed a low significance level, leading to the conclusion that the Discovery Learning model with PhET simulation assistance has a positive impact on students' interest and learning outcomes in the specified subject.

Abstract

Development of test instruments is the process of developing tools or procedures used in the framework of measurement and assessment activities. This study aims to develop well-qualified questions including validity, reliability, difficulty index, and differentiation. This research is a research and development with a development process using a 4D development model developed by Thiaragajan, et al (1974) covering four stages, i.e. : Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate, which in this study was only conducted up to 3D (development stage). The definition stage is performed student analysis, material analysis, and objective analysis. The design stage is the preparation of tests and the selection of test formats. The development stage consists of instrument preparation, expert validation and product trials to students. The test instruments developed are assessed according to the indicators and aspects of validation so that they are declared valid by the validator. The reliability value of the test instrument developed is 0.66 which belongs to the category of moderate reliability. Furthermore, the level of difficulty obtained is 8 medium questions and 2 easy questions, and the differentiation obtained is 7 enough questions and 3 good questions. The developed test instruments are acceptable and eligible to be used as test results of students' learning results on sound wave materials in grade 11 of high school.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of students' critical thinking skills in distance learning physics subjects using aspects of critical thinking skills according to Ennis. The method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The population in this study was all SMA/MA Tanjungbalai City. The research sample was taken by purposive sampling as many as 150 students of class X from 5 sample schools SMA/MA Tanjungbalai City. The research instrument is a test of critical thinking skills and a questionnaire. The critical thinking ability of SMA/MA students in Tanjungbalai City in the subject of straight-motion physics in distance learning is still low overall. The average test of students' critical thinking skills is 55,73 in the low category. With the average achievement of each aspect, namely 61,83 in the aspect of Elementary Clarification, 56,37 in the aspect of Basic Support, 53,60 in the aspect of Interference, 56,17 in the aspect of Advance Clarification, 50,67 in the aspect of Strategy and Tactics. Student responses to distance learning show that all respondents of SMA/MA Tanjungbalai On the aspect of access to the use of distance learning, students gave an average response of 70%, indicating that students still find it difficult to use the distance learning method applied. Understanding the material shows that learning occurs when 78% of students better understand the material in face-to-face learning, and 52% of students understand physical lessons through distance learning. The aspect of implementing distance learning shows that students' responses to the effectiveness of distance learning are weak, with an average response of 65%
