Abstract

Dynamic assessment is unity of assessment and instruction based on the sociocultural theory in which mediation is gradually provided to promote the cognitive development.   This study mainly aimed to explore the quantitative and qualitative impact of mobile-assisted hybrid dynamic assessment (MAHDA) on Islamic religious Education (IRE) learners’ Arabic reading comprehension (ARC). This recent study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design and involved twenty participants assigned into experimental and control groups. All groups received pre-and post-tests to compare the intervention. The experimental group was mediated through the MAHDA procedure for two months and the control group received conventional instruction. The interview with the participants was also conducted to assess the learners’ perception of the mediation strategies of MAHDA. The pre- and post-test were analyzed by t-test and the transcribed interviews were thematically analyzed. Quantitatively, the results showed a meaningful distinction between the two groups. It highlighted that MAHDA was significantly effective to enhance the learners’ knowledge of ARC. The qualitative findings also indicated that the participants felt satisfied with the MAHDA in improving the learners’ ARC abilities and social interaction. One of the implications of this research is to promote the use of mobile learning as mediation DA framework to teach various features of Arabic including reading comprehension of Arabic. Further research is required MAHDA with a larger site and samples to generate the effectiveness of MAHDA.

Abstract

Little attention has been paid to the computer-based hybrid dynamic assessment (C-HDA) in the context of English as a foreign language (EFL) academic writing. However, This study aimed to examine the impact of C-HDA in improving the writing skills of Indonesian higher education students. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed. To gather quantitative data, one-group pretest-posttest research design was employed. Qualitatively, semi-structured interviews with the experimental group were also conducted to investigate the extent to of mediation benefited the participants during the teaching session. The interview was conducted after the post-test was completed accordingly. Eleven of twenty-two aged 19-20 years old enrolled in the Writing for Academic Purposes course and participated in this research project. The participants were required to write an argumentative essay of 150-300 words consisting of three paragraphs (introduction, body, and conclusion) and their essays were then assessed by using the recent C-HDA. All essays were, then, scored (by three raters) based on five criteria of academic writing, content, organization, language use, mechanics, and style. T-test and the thematic analysis were used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data, respectively. The results showed that the the current C-HDA improved the participants' academic writing although no maximal score was achieved. In addition, the qualitative data found three themes, positive and negative perspectives, and suggestions that addressed the participants' perceptions toward the C-HDA. This study yields implications for academic writing teachers about the implementation of C-HDA in developing academic writing for low-competent students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between Foreign Language Enjoyment (FLE) and social interaction among Indonesian undergraduate students in English-speaking classes. It also explores whether the duration of learning English affects students’ level of social interaction. The study employs a quantitative descriptive design using a Likert-scale questionnaire adapted from the Foreign Language Enjoyment Scale by Dewaele and MacIntyre (2014). Data were collected from 91 English Education students from various universities in Indonesia. The findings reveal that students generally experience moderate to high levels of FLE, particularly when the classroom environment is supportive and interactive. Pearson correlation analysis shows a positive and significant relationship between FLE and social interaction, indicating that students who enjoy learning English are more likely to participate actively in class. However, regression analysis reveals that the duration of English learning does not significantly influence students’ social interaction. These results suggest that emotional and social classroom factors, such as teacher support, peer collaboration, and classroom engagement, play a more influential role in encouraging interaction than the number of years spent studying English. The study supports the socio-constructivist theory, which emphasizes the importance of meaningful communication and a positive learning environment in foreign language learning. Abstract

Problem solving ability is an essential skill in mathematics learning as it trains students to think critically, logically, and systematically. However, observations at SDN Pasir Indah Ciater showed that most fourth-grade students still had difficulty understanding problems, planning strategies, and checking solutions. This study aims to describe teachers’ efforts to improve students’ mathematical problem-solving skills through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on number pattern material, as well as analyze supporting and inhibiting factors and its relevance to modern learning. This research used a qualitative descriptive method involving a teacher and sixteen fourth-grade students of SDN Pasir Indah Ciater. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the implementation of the PBL model improved students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. Students became more active, enthusiastic, and critical in finding solutions, while teachers acted as facilitators. Supporting factors included concrete media and student collaboration, while obstacles were limited time and varied initial abilities. Overall, PBL is relevant to 21st-century learning because it fosters critical, collaborative, and communicative skills.
