Abstract

The two destination life cycle models proposed by Plog (1974) and Butler (1980) have been recognizing by most of the tourism destination scholars. Questions tend to arise on the possible use of these models to map the entire destination life cycle from the beginning. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the possibility of entire lifespan of tourism destination by using the destination life cycle models from Plog and Butler. This research analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the models revealed from existing studies using critical inputs of the tourism industry. The main difference between the famous models, i.e. Butler and Plog lies in the authors' background and the approach of the different themes. Complexity factors such as multi-market, time boundaries, political agenda, market evolution/ access, mode of transportation, and technological innovation, makes it impossible to map the entire destination life cycle confidently. The ability to innovate reduces the relevancy of life cycle models. Therefore, the DMO needs to deal with the changes associated with increasing the destination's values to avoid stagnation or decline in stages.

Abstract

Urban Green Open Space/Ruang Terbuka Hijau Kawasan Perkotaan (RTHKP) is an essential part of the urban population ecosystem, one of which is the City of Bandung. One of the uses of RTHKP is as a city park, an alternative for tourist activities. This study aims to evaluate the use of City Parks as one of the RTHKP assets by understanding the perceptions and activity preferences of residents of Greater Bandung (Bandung City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi) related to city parks in Bandung City. This research uses quantitative methods with descriptive analysis to understand perceptions and preferences as well as regression and correlation analysis to understand the relationship between the two variables. Two hundred sixty-five resident respondents who have visited one of the eleven city parks in Bandung City have completed the questionnaire. The result is that the City Park aspect in Bandung City can be a place for recreation and a children's playground that gets the highest score for perceptions and willingness to use public transportation, and the safety aspect still needs to be considered. Meanwhile, for activity preferences in city parks in Bandung City, the highest position is a place for refreshing, recreation and sports, and the lowest is for socialising and inviting children to play. There is a significant relationship between the perceptions and preferences of residents of Greater Bandung, especially for recreational and refreshing activities.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is fundamentally transforming the global tourism industry, reshaping how travellers plan, experience, and reflect on their journeys. AI applications such as chatbots, virtual assistants, intelligent recommendation systems, and real-time translation tools have enhanced personalization, operational efficiency, and real-time decision-making throughout the tourist experience. However, despite AI’s potential to drive innovation and competitiveness, its adoption faces critical barriers, including data privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, digital literacy gaps, and unequal technological infrastructure. This study explores AI adoption's drivers, barriers, and strategic implications in tourism through a qualitative expert panel discussion involving academics, industry practitioners, and government representatives. Data were collected via a structured email-based discussion guide covering AI applications, operational benefits, motivational factors, adoption challenges, ethical considerations, and future directions. Findings reveal that AI enhances tourist experiences and business operations by enabling hyper-personalization, improving resource optimization, and supporting sustainable tourism governance. Ethical and regulatory challenges remain significant, particularly around trust, transparency, and data protection. The study proposes a conceptual model that positions AI as a transformative enabler, moderated by governance frameworks and ethical considerations. This research offers strategic insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and scholars, emphasizing the need for inclusive digital infrastructure, ethical AI design, and sector-specific regulations to ensure responsible, equitable, and sustainable AI adoption in the tourism sector.

Abstract

This study investigates the formulation and implementation of character development policies in vocational higher education institutions in Indonesia. Using a qualitative design, data were collected through panel surveys involving key stakeholders at multiple institutional levels, including lecturers, department heads, and vice directors. The study explores stakeholders' perceptions regarding the urgency of character education, the values to be instilled, implementation strategies, challenges, and evaluation mechanisms. Findings reveal a strong consensus on the importance of integrating character development into the core curriculum, yet also highlight critical challenges such as fragmented policy implementation, limited faculty capacity, and inadequate evaluation systems. National regulations are recognized as valuable frameworks, but their operationalization at the institutional level remains inconsistent. To address these gaps, the study introduces the V-CODE Model (Vocational Character-Oriented Development & Evaluation), a conceptual framework comprising five interconnected components: driving factors, stakeholder involvement, policy formulation, implementation strategies, and evaluation mechanisms. The model emphasizes participatory policy design, curriculum-wide integration, and feedback loops reinforcing continuous improvement. This research contributes to theory and practice by offering a contextually grounded model to guide vocational institutions in building sustainable and impactful character education systems. The study also provides policy recommendations for aligning institutional practices with national education goals and labor market expectations.
