Abstract

Therapeutic communication towards decreasing anxiety levels in preoperative patients. Through a deeper understanding of the role of therapeutic communication in caring for preoperative patients, we can improve the quality of health care and patient well-being. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of therapeutic communication on anxiety levels in preoperative patients. This research design uses quasi-experiments with the Non-Equivalent Control Group research design which in this design consists of a control group and an experimental groupThe Wilcoxon test shows that the p-value obtained is 0.001, and the Z value is -3.256. A P-value of 0.317, Mann Whitney U-Test statistical test with computerized assistance and obtained a Z value of -3.867 with Asymp Sig of 0.000It can be concluded that the provision of therapeutic communication has an effect on reducing anxiety levels in preoperative patients. Providing therapeutic communication in preoperative patients with an empathetic, informative, and supportive communication approach can have a positive effect on reducing anxiety levels in patients. By listening, providing clear information, providing emotional support, providing questioning opportunities, and teaching relaxation techniques, medical personnel can help patients feel calmer, overcome uncertainty, and feel better prepared for surgical procedures. This can contribute to patient comfort and minimize the negative impact of anxiety on the surgical process and postoperative recovery

Abstract

Introduction: Higher education typically gives nurses a more profound knowledge of healthcare practices and recent developments and enhances nurses' analytical and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to provide more effective care. Aim: Knowing education significantly affects the performance of implementing nurses in hospitals. Methods: The research design is qualitative analytical descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The population is all nurses working in the internal care room, and as many as 50 responses using the sampling technique are total sampling. Results: Showing the chi-square test with the level of meaning (α) = 0.05, obtained p value = 0.003, education significantly influences the implementing nurse's performance. Conclusion: Education significantly influences the performance of implementing nurses, and continuing education can be an effective strategy for improving the standard of health care in hospitals. Nurses with higher education tend to have better clinical knowledge and skills, enabling them to provide higher-quality care.

Abstract

Background:Hemodialysis is a kidney replacement therapy for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) aimed at removing excess fluid and waste products from the bloodstream and extending life expectancy. Although hemodialysis is considered the most effective therapy for increasing the life expectancy of CKD patients, it is associated with several side effects that can impact patients' overall well-being. Objective:This study aims to analyze the quality of life and associated factors among chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Hemodialysis Unit of Banggai District Hospital, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study involved 60 CKD patients aged ≥18 years who were undergoing hemodialysis therapy from April to June 2024. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Primary data were collected through direct interviews using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form 36 (KDQoL-SF36) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression analysis. Results:The chi-square test revealed significant associations between age (p = 0.024), gender (p = 0.041), blood pressure (p = 0.036), nutritional status (p = 0.039), hemoglobin levels (p = 0.024), creatinine levels (p = 0.023), and family support (p = 0.003) with the overall quality of life of hemodialysis patients. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that gender (p = 0.025; OR = 8.739; 95% CI: 1.320–57.872) and blood pressure (p = 0.049; OR = 9.817; 95% CI: 1.012–95.251) were significant predictors of quality of life. Conclusion:Factors such as older age, female gender, hypertension, nutritional imbalances (obesity or malnutrition), anemia, and elevated creatinine levels contribute to a decline in the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. The findings underscore the importance of collaborative efforts by patients, families, nurses, healthcare providers, and the government to enhance therapy adherence, dietary management, and psychological support to improve the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
